The most challenging part of taking an idea from concept to creation is actually starting out. Startup Weekend overcomes this by immersing participants in an encouraging and inspiring environment so the startup magic can happen! Our goal is to connect you with entrepreneurial-minded, enthusiastic people for an exciting weekend of big ideas! 

With a vast number of resources and our superstar mentors to guide you, by the end of the weekend you'll have a whole new wealth of knowledge to continue on with your creation or to apply to your everyday life!

Who is Startup Weekend For?
It doesn't matter what you do or where you come from, Startup Weekend is designed as an event that brings all sorts of people together, including:

Do I need to come up with an idea?
If you have an idea for a startup, then great! We hope you pitch for the weekend. If you don't have an idea, that's alright! Come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched, and see if something piques your interest! Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and community leaders

Form Teams
Teams start forming and discussing ideas

Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Coaches and Mentors

Timothy Carroll
Programme Director at Australia-China Association of Scientists and Entrepreneurs (ACASE)

Tim is the Programme Director and advisor to the Australia China Association of Scientists and Entrepreneurs (ACASE). Tim is the former Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) State Director- Victoria and senior representative for Austrade in Victoria with global responsibilities across all industry sectors and a lead strategic role in Health sciences and technology. He has been an assessor for applications to the Austrade administered Landing Pad programme for Startups to enter international markets. He currently is an advisor to a number of startups and a newly formed Melbourne based Incubator and has extensive experience in developing Innovative commercial strategies, business plans,  pitches and raising capital. 

Tim is a lifelong technophile and comes from a background in medical science, technology transfer and commercialisation. He has a wealth of experience in executive management in the medical and health sciences, international market development work in Asia, and innovation and commercialisation support.  He comes from a long career at CSL, one of Australia's largest and most successful biotherapeutics companies which operates a global business and produces blood plasma products, vaccines and pharmaceuticals. There he managed a number of technical and manufacturing teams and led CSL's Medical Device international market development. While in this role he resided in Singapore for a 2-year period from 2006 to 2008 as a travel base for global market development work with a focus on Asia.Tim has also operated his own consulting firm and managed La Trobe University's intellectual property portfolio and Knowledge Transfer Office. Tim is a Medical Scientist and his original scientific specialities are Blood Transfusion Medicine and Toxicology (i.e. snakes, spiders and other venomous creatures).
