Techstars Startup Weekend Toowoomba - Internet of Things

Startup Weekend is about creating - be it a new way to order dinner, a better way to find your cattle, an innovative way to improve your golf swing or a safer way to talk to faraway friends...if you can use the internet to make it happen, then Techstars Startup Weekend - Internet of Things is for you. Rookies to veteran entrepreneurs, maker to hacker, and IoT tinkerer to artisanal creator - you are invited to participate in the hardest fun you'll ever have: Techstars Startup Weekend. Don't need to be a hacker. Don't need to be a techie. Don't need to be an entrepreneur. Come with skills, energy, and be ready to have fun. You'll leave with a new network, new skills, and a renewed energy to help the world.

What do you need to bring?
Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea and/or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend long experience. Your ticket includes:
  • 7 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
  • Benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • One-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
  • All the internet and coffee you can consume.
Do I have to come up with an idea?
If you have an idea for a startup, then great! We hope you pitch and get your idea selected for the weekend. If you don't have an idea however, that's still cool, come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched and join a team! If you have more questions, check out the Startup Weekend First Timers FAQ: !

Does my idea have to be an IoT device?
No, it does not have to be, however there will be a few extra incentives awarded to those who are creating an IoT solution. But really....these days, almost everything we do is connected to the internet somehow, so you may just find that your idea connects anyway.

Paul Stewart
Principal Project Officer | Digital Economy Development | Digital Capability, Information and Transaction Based Services

I work to help businesses, communities and regions make the most of the digital economy and technologies on offer. My passion is for rural and regional Queensland, bridging the digital divide that exists across Queensland.

I especially love working with those that would love to use digital to their full potential but don't have the access to the technology & means (for whatever reason). Just as rewarding is opening the eyes and minds of those that have the access and don't use it to their full potential.
