Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What do you need to bring?

Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.
Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend long experience. Your ticket includes:

Form Teams
Teams start forming and discussing ideas

Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Saba Karim
Pipeline Manager @ Techstars

Techstars is the worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed, at which Saba Karim is the Pipeline Manager, helping source 450 companies per year for their 45 accelerators. Prior to Techstars, Saba helped launch and scale a number of startups over the past 11 years, including Evolve (Acquired by Hubspot), Orai App (Backed by Comcast), and Wattle Cafe (Artisan Australian Cafe in the heart of New York). Saba has also worked with world-renowned organizations such as Harvard University, Apple, Nokia, Universal and Telstra Corporation – and has his work published on CNN, VentureBeat and GQ.
Saba is passionate about startups and disruption. Seeing motivated founders challenging the status quo and making meaningful innovations is why he mentors all sorts of companies in his spare time, from challengers banks, to non-profits, and organic matcha companies.

Coaches and Mentors

Mic Black
Software R & D Manager (UX)

Drawing on a very broad skill set and extreme working velocity from founding roles in successful technology start ups with aggressive goals, Mic has been the go to guy for everything from product design, hands on design/ development through to team leadership. Leveraging off a successful career in software research and development specialising in user experience, Mic promotes a certain child-like wonderment being central to the work he does. Talk to Mic for user experience, usage analysis, physical computing, offsite team management and having to find a way to make whatever it is work when the odds are stacked against you. Mic is also the creator of the Sunshine Coast's own Pixel Mosaic.

MD of Forbes Meisner

I have over 25 years professional experience in UK, Europe & Australia, and have extensive specialised skills in R&D Administration/Management across Oil, Gas & Mining, AgriBusiness, Construction, IT, Renewable & Sustainable Energy, Engineering, BioFuel Technology, Manufacturing and Road Construction.

I am passionate about innovation creating value, and thereby enabling sustainable long-term growth in business.

Philippe Ceulen
Head of Programs

Philippe is passionate about communities and technology. Cambodia was his home for the most part of his professional life, where he was active in building the startup ecosystem and running his coworking space The 1961. He co-founded the travel tech startup WOW, worked with Airbnb to grow the Cambodian market and has been a volunteer with Techstars for several years. His current focus is on accelerator programs for creative tech startups at Creative Enterprise Australia.
