Your idea in 54 hours

Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What do you need to bring?

Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend long experience. Your ticket includes:
  • 5 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
  • Benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • One-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
  • All the internet and coffee you can consume.

Watch the video below to see what you can expect, and if you’re feeling inspired click on the “Buy Ticket” button now!

Vanessa Garrard

I have over 25 years of business experience under my belt in sourcing and developing consumer products and I can honestly say..

There is no better feeling than walking through a street in Brisbane, Sydney, Cairns or Darwin and seeing people using products that I’ve hard a part in creating.

Rob Hudson

I combine commercial and brand rigour, human understanding and multidisciplinary thinking to help businesses seize the right opportunity, find their direction and truly perform in the categories they operate within.

I have 25 years specialising in business transformation strategy through branding, communications, marketing, all with a layer of digital and creative innovation.

Paulette Oldfield

Paulette is a Project Manager, Agile subject matter expert and Certified Scrum Master who specialises in Agile coaching, strategic development and Change Management. A pragmatic approach with a ‘start it, finish it’ mindset who thrives on challenges and a passion for problem solving.

Gerard Doyle
Founder, Fractal

My mission is to help the founders, innovators, creators and dreamers find their customers, to see their product being deployed and fulfil their business potential.

It is rare to find a startup that doesn’t have a unique business proposition. It is unfortunately common to watch startups fail to position their business in the correct light, and to the appropriate audience.

I use my 20+ year of marketing experience combined with my experience as a founder of three Startups to help fellow founders discover and develop the optimal marketing solution for their business.

You might call me a growth hacker or a part-time CMO, but whatever name you give it, I create marketing strategies for Startups

Andrew Taylor
Co-Instigator, Crowd Round

I am an enthusiastic and experienced customer service minded business person, with extensive experience in small business processes, system integration and networking. My strengths include excellent communication skills, analytical thinking, managing teams, financial aptitude, attention to detail, small business experience and my friendly interpersonal skills. I have strong values, and deliver my personal strengths easily.

Nicholas Robertson
Founder, SwapU

SwapU makes swapping easy. We are a swaps based app facilitating swaps and connecting swappers to the services they need.
Unlock the value of your goods through swapping and bartering for something else. Cash is king but barter is smarter.

Facilitators

Daniel Johnsen
Founder, The Recovery Station

Founder, The Recovery Station (winner of Startup Weekend Lexington, Kentucky 2013)
From:KY (we love bourbon), live in Louisville, Kentucky, United States; currently residing in Longreach, Queensland, Australia.
Background: Founded a few companies, currently making a vending kiosk that dispenses pre/post workout drinks like protein shakes that are customizable and blended on-demand for everyday athletes in gyms (idea was the #1 placing idea at a Startup Weekend during a global startup battle).  I'm heavily active in Louisville & KY's startup scene where I help from basic mentoring with early stage ideas, organize Startup Weekends, throw happy hours for the startup & tech scene, the go-to person for pitch feedback before our area accelerator demo days, and random other items that I often forget and just do as they show up on my calendar.  I have a passion for asking some pretty forceful questions to get early stage entrepreneurs to evaluate their market, problem and solution and arrive at some decision point sooner rather than waiting 18+ months to launch MVPs, scale or bury the idea.
SW/UP: Been part of 30+ (?) Startup Weekends as: Sunday night observer x4; team lead x2; organizer x4; facilitator x1; judge x1; only KY rep for 2014 Vegas Summit; Startup Next participant x3 (I think I hold some type of non-verifiable record for as many ideas as I've taken through); Startup Next mentor x1
