H2 Ventures is excited to announce it will be running Sydney’s first Fintech Startup weekend from the 9th till 11th of September with Westpac as the principle partner at Sydney’s fintech hub Stone & Chalk and will also include sponsorship from S&P Global Market Intelligence, AMP New Ventures and Amazon Web Services.

The hardest part of starting up is starting out, Startup Weekend targets exactly this by immersing participants in the ideal environment for startup magic to happen. Courtesy of S&P Global Market Intelligence all participants will have access to global financial data over the weekend along with cloud hosting credits from AWS to get their prototypes online.

The finalists will receive cash prizes, AWS cloud hosting credits and an opportunity to pitch to join the next round of the H2 Ventures Fintech Accelerator, which will kick off in February 2017. There will also be prizes for the most outstanding individuals over the weekend.

Mentors for the weekend include startup founders, corporate executives and VC’s. The event will be judged by H2 Founding Partner Ben Heap, Ian Gardiner from Amazon Web Services, Vicky Lay, Director at Artesian Venture Partners and Daniel Foggo, CEO of RateSetter Australia.

What is Startup Weekend?

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs.  Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations.

Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurials.

The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education.  Whether you are looking for feedback on a idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

I have questions, who should I ask?

Almost every question is answered here:
If it is not then email us with anything!

What prizes are on offer?

The weekend is fundamentally about learning and not winning, despite this we do have some awesome prizes:
  • Winner: Cash prize TBC, $5,000 AWS Cloud hosting credit, Opportunity to pitch to H2 to join their next accelerator batch
There will also be prizes for runner up and outstanding individuals.

What do I get for my ticket price?

  • Fully catered weekend by Caitre'd including drinks on Friday and Sunday night
  • $100 AWS cloud hosting credit
  • Access to worldwide financial data on financial products such as Stocks and ETFs from S&P Global Market Intelligence
  • An unforgettable and life changing experience that will make you want to quit your job tomorrow
