This Weekend Build The Startup You LOVE!

Startup Weekend Dhaka is back and this time the event theme is CONTENT! Pitch your idea on Thursday and work 54 hours to make it a reality. The goal is to shape a startup idea and examine its marketability and feasibility. Start the event with Thursday pitches and team creation, get down to business planning on Friday, and showcase your prototype to the crowd and panel of experts on Saturday evening. Be ready to run your business from Sunday morning.

Anyone with the idea for content platform, tools, and even fictitious and non fictitious direct project can apply. This is the right place for you, if you want to-

  • get introduced to the world of startups and entrepreneurship,
  • learn the process of going from concept to creation,
  • meet experienced, talented, and passionate entrepreneurs in Dhaka,
  • join or build an all-star team,
  • or take your own idea from concept to creation
Make sure it's a new idea and not an existing business. 

Startup Weekend Dhaka is your destination for the weekend of February 14- 16thStartup Dhaka is organizing the event which will be held at GP House, Bashundhara. 

Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback. 

So, mark your calendar and work the weekend to be a startup!

Kazi Mahboob Hassan
Head of Strategy and Transformation, Grameenphone

Over 10 years of Corporate and Commercial Finance and CFO Advisory experience gained across a varietyof sectors ranging from Oil & Gas, Telecommunications, Manufacturing, Consumer Business/FMCG andFinancial Services. An MBA from the University of Oxford and a Qualified Chartered Accountant.


Yasir Azman
CMO & Deputy CEO, Grameenphone Ltd

Mr. Azman is an experienced professional with vast international experience in multiple countries and cultures. Before joining as CMO Grameenphone, Mr. Azman served as Telenor Group’s Head of Distribution & eBusiness and worked across all Telenor Operations. He has also worked in Telenor India operations as EVP & Circle Business Head for Orisssa and Karnataka circles during 2010-2012. In his previous tenure in Grameenphone, Mr. Azman played a leading role to set up Grameenphone sales and distribution organisation and to transform Grameenphone distribution structure. Throughout his career, Mr. Azman has a proven track record as a leader of transformation, change management and business development. 


Michael Foley
Chief Executive Officer, Grameenphone Ltd

A Canadian by birth, he joined Telenor in 2014 as CEO of Telenor Pakistan. He has more than 30 years of sales, marketing and operational experience in the telecom, retail and gaming sectors from both advanced and growth markets. He is a Graduate of McGill University in Montreal with BA in Organisational Psychology. Currently Michael is appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Grameenphone Ltd


Mustafizur Rahman
Founder & CEO at Startup Dhaka

Mustafiz is an entrepreneur, angel investor, startup community organiser and a marketer with over 20 years of experience of heading teams across diverse industries in Asia. Created and implemented successful strategies aligned with long-term business goals. Coached and developed talent, led marketing and PR teams to high levels of engagement and productivity. Built strong relationships with stakeholders in diverse cultural environments, nurturing internal networks and external partnerships. Developed and implemented cross-channel branding campaigns and sponsored events, leveraging traditional, experiential and digital marketing initiatives. Managed business in emerging market with the experience of growing sales. 
Currently, he is actively working in startup scene in Bangladesh for possible investment in tech startups and also involved in building the startup community.

Ahad is from a family of entrepreneurs, starting business in Bangladesh in the 1950s with steel. Ahad studied Film Production, started various ventures in Media, and is currently Chief Executive Officer at Bongo.

Solaiman Alam
Head of Digital, Grameenphone Ltd

Solaiman is a leader with a proven track record of fast delivery of quality results in stiff competitive environments. Currently, he is the Head of Digital at Grameenphone ltd. 

Solaiman has a total of 15 years of professional experience in the FMCG and telecom industry in various roles spanning marketing, product management, brand communication, PR, trade marketing and sales.


Samad Miraly
Executive Director, Olympic Industries Limited

Samad Miraly is a Canadian-Bangladeshi investor. An Executive Director at Olympic Industries Limited, a publicly listed consumer goods manufacturing company. He has also invested in Magnito Digital Limited – Bangladesh’s first full service digital marketing agency; Monasa Learning Limited – Dhaka’s premier after-school education centre; and LiveSafe, a US-based security app company. His latest investment is in Startup Dhaka, a media site that covers innovative business in Bangladesh.Out side of startups, he is a director at Universal Financial Solutions Limited, a licensed asset management company. Samad contributes some time community-building for entrepreneurship and angel investing in Bangladesh. His main interests lie in working toward upliftment through entrepreneurship, via impact investing and disruptive technologies.

Inam Uz Zaman
Project Lead, Upskill

Inam Uz Zaman is the project lead of Startup Dhaka's Online Learning Platform “ Upskill ”. Prior to his current role he led the strategy division of Purplebot Digital, and was the cofounder of a peer to peer food marketplace called “Foodtong”. He has a BBA Degree from IBA, University of Dhaka. Business Development and Marketing via Digital Channels are his particular areas of interest.


Bijon Islam
Co-founder and CEO at LightCastle Partners Ltd

Bijon is specialized in business model development, financial structuring and inclusive business design with 10+ years of experience in investment banking, private, development and public sector consulting. He is the Co-founder and CEO of LightCastle, one of the country’s fastest growing consulting firm with 100+ projects in 3 years and social ventures like www.pujeebd.org, www.unnoty.org and www.thepitchperfect.com

He started his career with Citi N.A. as a Management Associate (MA) and has since then worked in a variety of episodic deals including Bangladesh's first Interest Rate Swap, Equity Convertible Bonds, Largest IPO, Microfinance Securitization and Block Equity Trades. After graduating from the MA program, Bijon's chief responsibility revolved around leading the strategy planning and analysis unit. Working with regional teams across Singapore, Hong Kong, and India, he played a major role in aligning Bangladesh as an important piece in Citi's growth strategy in Asia. Due to outstanding performance, Bijon had received the CEO Excellence Awards for two years in a row in the organization. 


Tamzid Azad
Senior Executive, Business Innovation Digital, Grameenphone Ltd

Tamzid is an innovator with a unique amalgamation of education in Computer Science and skill sets of persuasive communication, product strategy and business development gained through experience in creating, managing & driving IoT, cloud storage and other online products and portfolios. He is good at aligning product lifecycle with Business Strategies. The span of his experience covers from driving sales, devise & implementing campaigns to User Research, Interviews, UX, Service design & Prototyping.


Syeda Salwa
Specialist, Business Innovation Digital, Grameenphone Ltd

Salwa is an experienced Product Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the telecommunications and financial services industry. She is skilled in User Research, Design Thinking, Product Development, Product launch, Product Strategy, Financial Analysis and Forecasting.


Sohel Rana
Lead Specialist, StartUp Ecosystem Digital, Grameenphone Ltd

Recognized as a thought leader in the startup ecosystem of Bangladesh, Sohel offers more than 7 years’ of experience in emerging technology, which he brings to Grameenphone Ltd (A sister concern of Telenor Group) as a Lead Specialist and Mentor of Accelerator program. Through the course of his career, Sohel has had the privilege of working to drive businesses from conception to eventual exit. His latest professional endeavors have allowed him to work very closely with thriving global technology and startup ecosystem.


Ibrahim Mohammad

Ibrahim has more than 7 years of experience in the field of marketing and business development. He is a Youtube certified professional and is currently working at Bongo as Senior Manager of Youtube.


Joon Park
Chief Marketing Officer, Bongo

Joon was a content creator before joining an international shipping company to oversee business development. Drawn by his passion for innovative technology, Joon decided to return to Bangladesh and is now leading Sales and Marketing at Bongo.


Anup Dutta

Anup is a creative graphic designer who specializes in Print and editorial design, Visual identity & Brand guidelines development, Design research and Creation of advertising ideas.
His expertise also includes usability analysis with a focus in cognitive thinking from a user standpoint.
