Together with an awesome group of people, you will work during 54 hours on the development of disruptive and sustainable businesses that leverage circular economy to improve our lifestyle. At Startup Weekend, you will unleash your entrepreneurial energy to come up with innovative businesses that have the potential to transform our society.
You will also:
  • Pitch your idea (if you want to; it's an open stage format)
  • Form a team of people you do or don’t know
  • Interact with some of the toughest industry experts specially invited for the occasion
  • Present your business model to a panel of expert judges and win prizes
  • Challenge yourself and learn new skills
  • Test the limits of sleeplessness

Cedric Donck
Business Angel

Cedric Donck is an experienced entrepreneur, who has launched various startups in the internet and communication sectors. He has sold some of these startups to major international communications groups, such as Omnicom and WPP. Since 2011, he is a professional Business Angel and has invested in over a dozen internet companies in Brussels, Paris and Madagascar. He is also a professor of Entrepreneurship at Solvay Business School, UBI and ISCAM, where he teaches business modelling, startup strategy and SME financing. In addition, Cedric founded two NGO’s (NewcoPark and Adanso), which promote entrepreneurship in Africa. Finally, he is the author of the book Pimento Map which presents a straight forward method to analyze Business Models.

When he drives his motorbike on the black roads, he loves to ride without helmet. It's dangerous but he loves that feeling of freedom so much...

Filip Van Mullem
CEO - Founder of Human Business [HuBu]

Filip graduated from the ULB in 1984 and got his Solvay Business School MBA in 1989. Speaking five languages, Filip spent his 12 first years at D’Ieteren, Avis Lease Europe and General Electric. In 1996 he co-founded Fleet Logistics International, a consulting and management company active in the automotive leasing industry, now present in 14 European countries and managing 185.000 vehicles. In 2009, after 25 years in the business world, Filip decided it was time to “give back” by founding Hu-Bu, stimulating employee volunteering (people focus) and furniture recycling (planet focus). The results of the first 5 years show promising developments with already 6.000 volunteers and 10.000 furniture items having transitioned from the business world to the non-profit world.

Philippe Coulon
General Manager Belgium Airbnb

Philippe Coulon was graduated from the Solvay Brussels School in 2001. With more than 14 years of experience in strategy consultancy and strategic marketing at Roland Berger, Deutsche Bank, Adam Software and Everteam, he is now General Manager of Airbnb in Belgium. Philippe has worked in different countries of which the US. He is a heavy traveller, a classical pianist and is passionate about philosophy. Philippe is very creative and is a lateral thinker - be prepared for unexpected questions!

Gauthier Van den Eynde
Operations Manager Belgium Uber

Unconditional startup passionate being driven by questioning status-quo and executing simple ideas that can have large impacts. I originally got sidetracked from my other passion, hospitality where customer focus and service is at the heart of everything. Was in the launching team of HotelTonight (mobile hotel booking app) in Europe before joining Uber as an operations manager. Customer centric with a creative mindset and a sales spirit, I do believe in people’s guts and convictions but more importantly in execution!

Laurent Hublet
Leading Digital Belgium at Cabinet of Deputy Prime Minister De Croo

I am passionate about new ideas and making them a (better) reality. My job is to push and pull Digital Belgium, the Digital transformation strategy at Federal Gov’t. I am also an angel investor in my spare time, and an entrepreneur in education (managing a programme on Management and Philosophy). Prior to Digital Belgium, I spent 7 years as a management consultant and project leader with The Boston Consulting Group, advising global players on new business development and operational transformation in B2C sectors (Healthcare, Consumer Goods, Energy, Social Impact).

I am a father of two and an aviation fan.

Alex Gaschard
Founder CarAmigo

Having lived in Paris, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Vienna and now Brussels, Frenchman Alex Gaschard is an unserious-serial-entrepreneur. He started his first company at the age of 21, thereafter undertook an MBA at the Rotterdam School of Management and crazily worked a few years within the demonic world of big corporations at Oracle & Philips. In 2003, he went back to his creative roots by starting Belgium’s first alternative directory-assistance provider 1212/1313, and a data quality service called Mutualeez. In 2013, he founded Sharonomy, the company behind Belgium’s first peer-to-peer carsharing service, CarAmigo.

Marie Laenen

Marie helps inspiring entrepreneurs and startups shape and launch their business in Brussels and Europe. She’s worked as a content marketer and digital consultant for various startups, companies and NGOs in the past. She often facilitates events and gives trainings. Among others, her goal is help women leaders thrive in the tech sector. 

Hans van Gent
Founder at Inbound Rocket, Client Service Director Digital at Havas

Marketing is running through the veins of Hans, always hustling to get the most out of life and out of business. He works in advertising as Client Service Director Digital at Havas WorldWide Brussels. And he recently launched Inbound Rocket as a way for struggling startups and small/medium enterprises to generate more leads through their (WordPress) website. In his work, he’s always pushing the envelope of technology, digital media and looking for new creative ways to solve “problems" for his clients. In the past, he worked successfully on various campaigns and online platforms for some of the big brands of Unilever, Nestlé, Amnesty International, the European Parliament, the European Commission and others. Next to his work in advertising, he teaches (early stage) startups about customer development and applying lean startup mechanics all the way from the first idea, the eventual launch and the marketing that comes in all steps of a business. He mentors and helps to organise at StartupBus, the Startup Foundation Experience, and StartupWeekend. Next to that he teaches early stage startups about customer development and applying lean startup mechanics not just in the launch and building of their product but also in marketing and other areas. He can be found coaching and organising at events like the StartupBus, Startup Foundation Experience (Previous Evolv) and other places where his expertise is needed.

Young web entrepreneur, passionate about new technologies, finance and entrepreneurship. Product manager and responsible for research and development at ListMinut ( / / 15 years of experience in building web applications. He has developed dozens of websites for individuals and SMEs. Won the ING Start Academy twice in a row, as CTO of two different projects

Serge Van Oudenhove

Serge Van Oudenhove is an extrapreneur passionate by technology, entrepreneurship and extreme sports. Business Engineer with over 9 years of experience, including Finance, Project Management, Entrepreneurship and Web/Mobile Technology, Serge has founded in 2015, which is an Innovation Agency/Startup Studio. Serge is currently co-founder of, the first project of Business Value Design made in collaboration with Allyum Lab, the innovation lab of Serious Funding is an online solution to help entrepreneurs in their startup funding by offering them an automated tool that makes startups valuation fast and easy, and by matching them with serious dealmakers to have high quality support during the deal. Serge started his professional career in 2007 as a fixed Income fund manager and as quantitative analyst at Bank Degroof. In 2010, he joined Intys Consulting as a business analyst and worked notably on IT and finance project management at BNP Paribas Fortis and at SNCB. In 2012, he was hired by Solvay entrepreneurs as a consultant and coach in Entrepreneurship. In 2015, he took on a new status and creates his own company. Serge is currently teaching assistant of Professor Olivier Witmeur at the Solvay Brussels School and he is also coach and lecturer in Web and Entrepreneurship at Solvay Entrepreneurs and Ichec-Enterprises.

Vincent Truyens is a happy entrepreneur who is focusing his energy on building bridges between economy and ecology.   As consultant and trainer, his goal is to inspire and support people who want to create positive and sustainable societal value through their business. He helps SME’s to design sustainable business models, strategies and practical projects.  Vincent is a believing and committed Circular Economy supporter and develop innovating solutions to prevent valuable materials to be incorrectly disposed. As Corporate Social Responsibility Lecturer @ Louvain School of Management and entrepreneurship mentor @ Student Start Lab, this is the way of doing business that  he is teaching to the students.  As volunteer, he is involved in various local co-op, social businesses and NGO in the area of sustainable development.

Thibaud Godet
Community Developper @Future of Waste (MakeSense)

After spending 4 years as a business consultant within the Global Consulting company Accenture, I decided to leave the corporate world and my career where it was and look for another kind of life, one that would be consistent with my beliefs and values. I started with the development of the Future of Waste community in Brussels. As a vertical within MakeSense we want to help Sustainable, local entrepreneurs by bringing them the active support of consumers that want to give their times and ideas in order to build solutions that will help them live without producing waste. Now after completing and intense training in web development I am starting a new project in Brussels. The purpose of the initiative is to bring together eco-conception and logistics in order to create a leading example of a Circular Economy business within the Food and Beverage local business.

Michel supports organisations and entrepreneurs developing cooperation, agility, innovation and a sustainable performance. Actively involved in multiple startup communities, he coaches startups and animates hackathons and conferences. He collaborates with accelerators, incubators, business schools and public institutions in Europe.

Michel is Facilitator at Startup Weekend, author of the Hackathon Canvas and co-author of ParticipAgile.
