Startup Weekend – Solutions For Your City

Join us for the next edition of Startup Weekend where you will be creating innovative solutions using open data provided by The City of Calgary. Your goal is to identify opportunities to build tools or services that would improve service delivery and/or enhance the daily lives of Calgarians.

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with more than 8,000 startups created in over 100 countries around the world.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing and market validation resulting in a minimum viable product (MVP).

The weekend culminates with presentations in front of a mix of local entrepreneurial leaders and City of Calgary representatives where the top three teams are awarded prizes in addition to bragging rights and media coverage.

First Prize
  • All-inclusive management leadership retreat sponsored by The Banff Centre
  • Participation for two team members in Calgary NEXT (a 5-week pre-accelerator program developed by UP Global, TechStars, and Google for Entrepreneurs) sponsored by Startup Calgary and Innovate Calgary.
