Join over 45,000 Startup Weekend alumni, all on a mission to change the world @StartupNB!

Startup Weekend is a 54 hour event that brings together New Brunswick designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and experts from all domains to do amazing things.

Startup Weekend NB believes entrepreneurship is the single greatest force advancing society and human welfare. We also believe empowering others is the best way to identify leaders, build communities, and inspire change.

We live life to the fullest. We take risks. We change the world. We are entrepreneurs. And we invite YOU to join the community @StartupNB!

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and embark on a three-day frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback!

If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur and contribute to a more sustainable world, be part of Startup Weekend New Brunswick. Startup Weekend is happening in Moncton April 29 - May 1st at Venn.

Step outside of your comfort zone. Be Inspired. Solve a problem. Start something new. @StartupNB. Nov 18-20.

Event Judges

Luc Jalbert

Deux lignes spécialisés: Just’a Drop StomieTM and Just’a Spray AvancéTM • Une ligne d’articles cadeaux: PoopeechicTM • Et un nouvel éliminateur d’odeurs an vaporisateur : Just’a Spray TM

Renée Warren
Co-Founder, Onboardly Media Inc.

Renée Warren is an enthusiastic and creative thinker and entrepreneur. Her first job, at 17 years old, took her into the restaurant management business where she learned the tools of the trade. Entrepreneurship to her at that age was difficult, yet very rewarding. On top of managing a restaurant she also designed jewellery for her collection at Mijoux. Out of university she travelled to Australia, Fiji, Mexico, and Los Angeles. There she discovered and fell in love with culture, art, and ethnic foods. (A slight sushi fetish developed). Upon her return to Canada after a year long absence, she returned to school for Marketing Management. Her short stint as Manager for a small co-working company showed her the passion and enthusiasm Canada has for entrepreneurship. She was soon recruited by BizLaunch to help preserve the nation’s passion for small business success.

Specialties: Media relations, marketing management, project management, business development, jewlery design/manufacturing.

Denis Daigle
C.T.O. chez Porpoise

Hi I'm Denis Daigle, a tech and social impact entrepreneur. My passion is coding, my gift is recognizing human potential and my reason to be is blending both together to move humanity forward.

I'm a self-taught coder that holds the "why" above the "how" and values inspiration over education. I believe that people are more than just their job and that we're on earth to help each other out with our gifts.

I'm living out my reason to be as co-founder/CTO at Ongozah Inc through product called Porpoise, a mobile app and dashboard used by companies and causes to let employees choose how to give back, in ways matter to them, and help influence their company's charitable giving and become a true pillar of their community.

Topher Kingsley-Williams
CEO

I am an entrepreneur. I am motivated by creating and delivering on ideas that will make an impact. I don't see failure as a negative experience but something to learn from and apply to the next project. In all areas I have been involved a key ingredient is disrupting a "common" process to improve on people's lives. Change is what we are striving for with Ongozah.

Ongozah Inc. is a crowd-resourcing tool for community builders. Ongozah helps build and leverage "community" to allow businesses and projects to find the people, things and money they need to accomplish goals. We are changing the way projects and businesses start and operate by allowing people everywhere to get involved and contribute.

Emily Brennan
Marketing Manager

I'm leading the marketing and content at a fun and growing company called Alongside (formerly Qimple). Yes, our name was Qimple - haha in the past now, thank goodness... moving on!

Alongside exists to help bring candidates and companies together in a meaningful way that fosters growth and potential for everyone. It's sad that online hiring has become so impersonal and demeaning. With our SaaS, we're bringing the human back into hiring (yep, that's possible). Because, let's face it - work is a huge part of our lives, it's time to love it.

As Marketing Manager, I oversee our brand and inbound marketing strategies. I also work hard to create high-quality content that people actually enjoy reading. I'm busy meeting others, researching, thinking, writing, obsessing, planning, etc. I love challenges and came into this role with little tech experience - now I even have a few coding tricks up my sleeve. 🚀

Before I came onboard with Alongside, I was home for a year raising my wonderful little boy. I thought maternity leave was like a whole year off of work,.. vacation! Woot! Man was I wrong. It was a super challenging, rewarding and life changing experience.

Before my mom days, I worked as a public relations consultant for Atlantic Canada's largest marketing and communication firm. I'm also a past jewelry saleswoman, paint/wallpaper sales associate, and barista (I make a mean cup of brew ☕️ ).

Skylar Richard
UX Designer

https://www.instagram.com/skylar_richard/
I am a problem solver, creator and design strategist. As the UX designer at Alongside, I need to embody the pain points of our customers in order to process how to solve them. In the end, it is all about making someone’s life a little easier through design and technical prowess. User Experience design isn’t just the work that you can show on your desktop or mobile phone at the end of the day. It is the process of understanding a user’s needs - the awareness of their emotional state; the application of empathy in a design that is a solution to the problem. With Alongside I get to do this everyday, which has been a career defining role.

When I’m not in the office, I've been lucky enough to midnight as a professional  artist. Having had solo exhibits in galleries and paintings sold around the world, I can humbly say that my creative cap never comes off.
