Andrew Smith, P. Eng., PE., is an engineer and manager with over 20 years of experience in many sectors, including oil & gas, power generation, plant maintenance, regulatory compliance, construction, environmental stewardship, food production, medical and consumer product design, and injection molding. Throughout his career he has been directly involved in prototyping, planning, process and product design, estimating, construction, resourcing, commissioning, tool design, operation, manufacture, and compliance in projects ranging from local initiatives to mega projects.
Soon after graduation he accepted a position with Kiewit in Nebraska, where he was later assigned as the planning and documentation lead for a $90-million power facility in Illinois. The next move was to an established design firm that was transitioning into plastic injection molding and medical products. There he soon was leading teams and completing patented designs with his clients. A family change moved his family back to Nebraska, where his organizational skills were employed by a major pipeline company. Five years were also engaged with the Kellogg’s company, spearheading many plant and product improvements in their largest North American facility.
In 2009 he returned home to Newfoundland and rejoined Kiewit to be promoted to Environment & Regulatory Manager for Kiewit-Kvaerner Contractors (KKC) on the Hebron GBS mega-project.
