Startup Weekend Ottawa is back for the 11th time!

This one is a special edition Startup Weekend to celebrate and inspire the next generation of ideas that will shape the next 150 years for Canada. There are a limited number of tickets for the event.

For this Startup Weekend, attendees can compete in four categories:
  • General
  • Health Tech
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Maker/Hardware
The categories represent some of the key themes of innovation that are poised to set Canada apart.Canada, and especially, Ottawa has amazing entrepreneurs, innovators, and talent with great ideas. This event will help you turn that idea into a startup with the help of mentors, resources and a team. On Sunday, June 11, teams will pitch in front of an esteemed set of judges for feedback and a chance to win the prizes. Check out videos from 2015 and 2016's events!

In terms of format and timelines, the event will be very similar to the events in the past that we have put on. We hope to see you out there and welcome you to send any and all questions to ottawa@startupweekend.org

Teams start forming and discussing ideas

Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Speakers


Cornelius Rachieru

Cornelius Rachieru (if you need a pic, you can use the one from my twitter profile)
Cornelius is the founder of Ampli2de Inc., a small UX consultancy, where he explores his fascination with the politics of design while tackling large scale experience and service design projects. Over the past 15 years, he managed large experience design teams as UX Practice Leader at Deloitte Canada and Shaw Communications, and has consulted in a wide range of industries, from technology to financial services, healthcare, enterprise risk management and law. He is also the founder, co-chair and creative director of the popular CanUX conference, Canada’s largest and longest running annual UX event. A self proclaimed night owl (he is originally from Transylvania), Cornelius loves red eye flights and is a nomad at heart. You can reach him on twitter @corneliux.

Eli Fathi is a serial entrepreneur with several successful exits launching innovative technologies in North America that served a global customer base. 


Nilufer Erdebil, MBA, PMP
CEO, Spring2 Innovation

Nilufer is CEO of Spring2 Innovation, an innovation and commercialization consulting firm. She  has over 17 years of experience in innovation within various fields including telecommunications, application development, program management and IT management. For large corporation she helps create processes, teams and metrics around innovation as well as provides training on innovation and collaboration. For smaller organizations she creates messaging and marketing strategies, especially for technology companies – bridging technology and business.
 
Throughout her career she has always had a passion for technology, business, commercializing technology and navigating change. Having worked in a number of international organizations and lived on three continents, Nilufer has a global mindset.

Nilufer is a 2014 recipient of the Ottawa 40 Under Forty award.


Coaches and Mentors


Marco Janeczek
Director Accelerator + Incubator, L-Spark

Marco leverages his skills in business development, sales, finance, technology and product development.
My current work circles around startups, accelerators and venture funds. Before turning my career into the venture capital industry, I was the founder and CEO of a number of startup companies. As a CEO, I have build teams that solved real world problems through a technological solution, and a large addressable market. I was involved in all aspects of the business, from product strategy, product development, raising capital (angel, VC), business development (traction), strategic partnerships, P&L, customer acquisition, agreements and the final company trade sale. Most of my experience circles around technology startups, where my passion is.


Walter Knitl
Founder and Principal, Praxiem

Walter is a Product Manager with deep experience in all phases of the product lifecycle from concept, through definition and feasibility, development, general availability to end of life. His expertise includes market and competitive analysis, customer needs discovery, product requirements, business case development, product strategies and roadmaps, investment rationalization among other product success necessities.  This is augmented by roles in Account Management and Commercial Management.  His business acumen is supported by solid hands-on software and hardware development and systems engineering experience. Walter’s achievements range from introduction of market leading products at global telecom vendors, to assisting smaller Ontario companies to become more competitive through adoption of new technologies in their products.  Today he offers product consulting through Praxiem to help clients reduce their risk and time to deliver the right product and strengthen their return on investment. Walter’s special passion these days includes Internet of Things  @iotXottawa.

Justine Boudreau | Hardware/Maker Mentor
Makerspace officer/Makermobile instructor, University of Ottawa Makerspace/Makermobile

Justine Boudreau works at the UOttawa Makerspace where she is developing various programs to promote engineering and science with girls. She also works with the Makermobile to introduce 3D printing, laser cutting, robotics and programming to schools in the Ottawa region. Her hobbies include tinkering, robotics and crafting with pop tabs
