Have an idea that you can’t seem to get off the ground or never knew where to begin? Then UBC Startup Weekend is the perfect opportunity for you! 

From February 3-5th, 2017 in a span of just 54 hours, you will experience the highs, lows, and fun that make up life at a startup. As you learn how to create a real company, you’ll meet the best of Vancouver’s entrepreneurial leaders - mentors, investors, potential cofounders, and sponsors - who are there to help you get started.

(No prior experience necessary! All we ask is for you to come out and have fun, learn a thing or two, and make some friends that last much longer than just the weekend!)

Students from ALL FACULTIES and ALL YEARS are welcome to join.

This is a public event for the general public, anyone can attend and is not limited to UBC students

Spots available:
We strive to bring to you the best experience possible and in doing so, we can only accommodate around 100 participants! 

Also, to ensure we have a diverse background, we will be dividing up those 100 spots among Designers, Developers, and Non-technical participants. This way we can ensure each team has the background knowledge necessary to build out their minimum viable product.

For those that aren't free on the weekend, we will have tickets for $15 for anyone wanting to come out on Sunday during the DEMO session of every teams' product! 

If you want to be involved but not necessary participate, we will be needing volunteers throughout the weekend to make this event a success!

Willson Cross
Director & Co-Founder at GoFetch

GoFetch is Canada's largest pet-sitting marketplace. After attending UBC, he founded GoFetch in March of 2016, GoFetch is a mobile, on demand, marketplace that connects dog owners with dog walkers in their city.

Paul Davidescu
Co-founder and CEO

Paul is the principal at Tangoo, a food & beverage marketing company focused on helping restaurants and brands leverage online communities to build their businesses through social media and digital strategies. Tangoo has worked with over 225 clients and has been featured in over 40 national media publications including their debut on CBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2014.
Alongside Tangoo, Paul is a thought leader in the youth entrepreneurial arena primarily through co-founding Lifeschool, a hands-on business educational program empowering the brightest high school students to connect the dots of how to succeed in life and business before university through work placements in local startups and Fortune 500 companies. 
Paul also spends time advising startups and mentoring new entrepreneurs and students. For a fun icebreaker, ask him about how many times he has done the Grouse Grind in one day, his triathlons, meditation, learning languages, and his abroad exchanges in Barcelona and adidas Germany respectively.

Miguel Kudry

Geof Auchinleck
CEO Claris Healthcare Inc.

Geof has more than 35 years of experience in the medical device field.  He was part of the Vancouver-based team that built and tested the world’s first robot specifically designed to assist in surgery, then went on to develop a number of other surgical technologies, including surgical tools for laparoscopic surgery, surgical limb positioning, blood sample handling equipment, apparatus for total knee arthroplasty, blood transfusion management software and a medical device wearable.  He is co-founder of Claris Helathcare Inc. and recently received his 20th U.S. patent.

Michael Norton
Entrepreneur In Residence

Michael has led over 60 Techstars Startup Weekend events throughout the US, Canada, and Australia. He teaches workshops, designs programs, and speaks on a variety of topics related to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Michael has worked professionally in marketing technology startups, with big data, non-profit fundraising, customer support systems design, technical project management, educational program development, event production and decor, iOS app design, video games, user testing, prototyping, and in the coffee industry.

His own past and present business ventures include several SaaS web app platforms, photography, woodworking, printing, audio engineering, video production, musical composition/recording/performance, publishing, art curation, operating an Amazon Pro Merchant storefront, and a funnel cake stand.

Michael guides innovative communities to build and nurture regional entrepreneurial ecosystems. He guides corporations through internal innovation and intrapreneurship. 

He frequently works as a freelance business development consultant, crowdfunding guru, technical project manager, and as a marketer — focused on branding, messaging, storytelling, social media, and email marketing.
