Sean Stephens
CEO - Treefrog Inc., LassoSoft Inc. & PerfectlySoft Inc.

Since joining the Treefrog team in 2000, Sean's expertise has provided the technical vision and backbone on projects for major corporations, leading educational institutions, government agencies and e-business innovators Nationally and Internationally. He has expertise in both hardware and software management, and is comfortable on every major OS platform.

Treefrog has continued to grow in double digits year over year since he took the lead in 2001. Treefrog has won many awards for growth and innovation, from the Bell Technology Award to several Business of the Year awards in Newmarket and Aurora and most recently Entrepreneur of the Year. 
 
In 2010, Sean purchased the rights to the Lasso programming language, his programming language of choice, now under a new company name, LassoSoft Inc. Sean is also an owner and investor in a number of other web businesses, and continues to invest in various initiatives across the world. 

Sean is now an active speaker and regularly speaks to groups about various subjects relating to Digital technologies. Drawing on his diverse background, technical knowledge and creativity, Sean puts practical tips and ideas forward to help people understand websites, social media and related technologies. 



Jane Gertner
Executive in Residence at ventureLAB

Jane is in constant pursuit of strategic and operational excellence to position her clients for maximum competitive advantage. She is a strong business generalist with hands on experience spanning from marketing/sales to executive management, raising capital and creating successful exits.

She initially trained at Unilever as a Global Marketer, launching and growing international brands in North America, and expanding successful Canadian products world-wide. As President of an operating division of George Weston Ltd, Jane executed a complete financial and operational turnaround, divesting the company at a significant multiple.

Jane is also a solid integrative thinker, and is able to draw upon her deep business experience and broad skill sets to assist clients in strengthening their value propositions, commercializing products, forging successful strategic partnerships, improving investment readiness, and enhancing shareholder value.Jane is the Managing Partner of an SME consultancy, and serves on the Advisory Boards of several high growth entrepreneurial ventures. She holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, and is Vice Chair of the school’s Alumni Board.

Andrew Maxwell
Director Entrepreneurial Engineering at Lassonde School of Engineering

Dr. Andrew Maxwell received his Ph.D. in Management Science at the University of Waterloo in 2011, winning the Academy of Management’s Heizer Award. Prior to this he completed an MBA at London Business School, and a B.Sc. (Eng.) in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London.

He has been Chief Innovation Officer at the Canadian Innovation Centre for the past ten years, developing and delivering innovative and entrepreneurial programs (such as VentureStart for FedDev/RIC and InnoGate for IRAP and the Innovators’ Alliance). In 2012, he was jointly appointed to the College of Engineering and the Fox School of Business at Temple University (Philadelphia), developing Masters programs in Engineering Management, and Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. 

His research examines the behavioural aspects of technology innovation, specifically the formation of new business and entrepreneurial relationships. He is a subject matter expert for IRI (Washington) in the field of trust and innovation, and a field editor for the Journal of Business Venturing where he pioneers new approaches to translational research through multimedia. 

He has won several teaching awards, authored 5 refereed journal articles, numerous industry articles and spoken at global academic and industry conferences.


James Watzke
PhD Dean, Applied Research & Innovation

James is responsible for planning and directing Seneca's applied research and innovation enterprise, including the Office of Applied Research and Innovation (ARI), the Seneca Applied Research Council, and the Research Ethics Board (REB). ARI is a service unit to both internal and external community stakeholders, and as such, helps develop and administer various applied research projects, grants, and special initiatives which in turn foster key academic strategies for the College, e.g., experiential and cross-disciplinary learning. He has extensive experience executing and administrating research in post-secondary environments in Sweden, the US, and Canada. Prior to coming to Seneca, he had similar roles at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), and Humber College in Toronto. James completed his undergraduate education at UC Berkeley in California, and received his PhD from the University of Lund, Sweden, with a specialization in psychology, environment and gerontology.

Nilay Goyal

Nilay is the Entrepreneurship Manager for the LaunchYU program at York University. Nilay has been a co-founder and Associate Director of the Creative Destruction Lab at University of Toronto. Nilay has a background in the high-tech semiconductor industry, management consulting and investment banking. Previously, Nilay founded the product division at e-Infochips, scaled its operations and later led the acquisition of his product portfolio by Cadence Design Systems. Nilay has also worked as a management consultant to a variety of industries including technology, healthcare and fashion and luxury goods. Nilay holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from North Gujarat University, India and MBA from Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, Canada. 


Paul Robitaille

Alex Karolyi

As Shadowpath's Founding Artistic Producer, Alex has received municipal, provincial and federal grants that allowed Shadowpath to produce full-scale Canadian/Ontario premiere productions such as; Look Back in Anger (2005) The Good German (2009) Paradise By the River (2008/2010), The White Rose (2013) as well as launch community initiatives that transform everyday spaces into creative spaces. Mike Betts is a recognized entrepreneur and technology executive with over a 10 years of experience working with and managing rapid growth technology start-ups. As an Executive In Residence at ventureLAB™ he advises entrepreneurs supporting acceleration of their business growth through mentorship, advisory support, education and collaboration. Prior to ventureLAB™ Michael was the Founder of Canada’s first web based, in-image ad network, and was responsible for all aspects of the company’s early growth and strategy. Lait Guglani

Azhar Laher
Professor, School of Business and Centre for Human Resources at Seneca College

Azhar Laher is a husband and father of two children
He has worked in the Human Resources industry for over 23 years and held senior human resources positions in both South Africa and Canada. He has held senior management roles at Rogers Wireless, SAP and TJX Canada . He is currently Professor of Human Resources in the School of Business at Seneca College.
Azhar has founded and managed several internet businesses, including the Thornhill Wealth Forum--www.thornhillwealthforum.com--an online community of like-minded people interested in wealth creation. Its purpose is to help others prosper through knowledge-sharing and networking. The philosophy of the forum is that if you want more wealth, you must support the wealth of others. In addition to his entrepreneur accomplishments, Azhar volunteers with the Toronto District School Board, preparing new Canadians for the job market. He has worked in the Human Resources industry for over twenty-five years and held senior strategic positions in both South Africa and Canada. He is currently Professor of Human Resources in the School of Business at Seneca College. Azhar is a real estate investor and his fascination with personal finance started seven years ago when he tried to explain the basics of money management to his kids. He wanted to educate them so they wouldn’t make the same mistakes he did and has written the book “Confessions of a Dad: My Kids Don’t Understand the Value of Money” to share his experience and offer guidance to other parents- www.confessionsofadad.ca He was an active Board Director of the Central Montessori Group of Schools of Canada and volunteers in a number of community organizations, including Reh’ma Community Services, and has coached kid’s soccer.

Dexter Chew

Dexter Chew is a Director of Business Development at OMR Globus. Dexter recently joined OMR Globus which is a market research technology solution startup.  His focus is on strategic business and technology growth.  
In addition to OMR Globus, Dexter is the owner of Dexter Chew Photography based out of Markham, Ontario.  After his fifteen-year career in the telecommunication industry, he decided to branch out and try something new as well as follow his passion in photography where he specializes in wedding and lifestyle.

Dan Wasserman

In 2010 Dan returned to Canada after eleven years of working in the Greater Washington DC area. While there he ran business development for a couple of “dot-com” companies before becoming the Executive Vice President of AdZone, Inc. For those five years Dan dealt with top Pentagon brass and senior law enforcement officials (including the Joint Terrorism Task Force) ultimately leading to one AdZone development becoming a finalist for the “Innovation of the Year Award” at the 2006 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) convention. During his tenure he also forged strategic partnerships with such companies as Raytheon, Sarnoff, and Boeing.

Prior to moving to the US, Dan headed a number of successful entrepreneurial ventures in Canada starting with Ad-Scan Inc. (acquired by AC Nielsen). He also created the consumer promotion that secured Sympatico™ its ranking as the largest ISP in Canada and generated over $25 million in first year revenue.

Dan has a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Schulich.


Joseph DeCamillis
Joseph is a Manager in the Advisory Services practice at Deloitte

Joseph is a Manager in the Advisory Services practice at Deloitte in Toronto. In his nearly five years at the firm, he has worked on a wide variety of projects across several industries, including pharmaceuticals, software, telecommunications and engineering. His experience includes IPO readiness and M&A transaction advisory, both at the due diligence and regulatory reporting stages, as well as complex accounting advisory services under various accounting standards, including IFRS and U.S. GAAP. Most recently, Joseph has worked with several large global companies, in both the telecommunications and automotive sectors, providing assessment, readiness and implementation advisory services associated with the new revenue standard.


Hal Swann

Hal began his career as an industrial designer. Initially, concerned with aesthetic design, his work progressed to mechanical and optical design, including patenting a laser measuring system. Continuing in automotive service equipment, Hal was recruited to a sales position, in which he took a product line from an installed base of two units, to become the most highly-respected system in Canada, and was named top sales manager in North America.Parallel to and supporting these successes, Hal became deeply involved in industry associations, contributing to building curriculum for technical skills advancement, and “train the trainer” programs.A brush with death saw Hal move more fully into photography (which he had used extensively in market development), virtual reality and film making technology. Rapid advancement led to consulting, specialized imaging and public speaking engagements for Apple, IBM, Kodak, Ontario Provincial Police, and other organizations.As VP Digital Media at ZoomAndGo, Hal spearheaded numerous unique initiatives, including an online video and photo administration system to interface with a vast database of places to stay, worldwide. The firm’s *Geospatial Engine is highly touted by Sabre Global Distribution System as an unsurpassed system for data visualization of accommodations around the world.Continuing with travel industry focus, Hal has filmed and produced materials for firms such as IBM Transportation Systems, Skyservice Business Aviation, AirSprint Private Aviation, and others.Hal was approached by EntreBahn to film a piece for their WizOf.biz product, and after some months of ongoing consultations, was excited to accept their offer to become Chief Operating Officer, in 2013.In Hal’s offline life, he has served on boards of a number of arts organizations and is directly involved in efforts to alleviate, and ultimately eliminate, homelessness.


Dr. Jim Feng
Acupuncturist and Chiropractor

Owner of Form Function Clinic, Dr. Jim Feng is a graduate of University of Toronto with a Physical Health and Education Degree. From there, he attained his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He has also completed theory levels 1 & 2 of the National Coaching Certification Program and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Sport First Responder, and Certified Titleist Performance Institute Medical Professional.
Dr. Jim Feng has always maintained a passion for exercise and health. As the Captain of the University of Toronto Varsity Wrestling team, Dr. Jim Feng utilized his knowledge in functional, dynamic, power, endurance, plyometrics and other sport specific training to lead his team to winning provincial, national and international tournaments.  As a Chiropractor, Dr. Jim Feng has a wide and varied knowledge of therapeutic rehabilitation and exercise prescription which fits closely with the Dynamic Treatment Paradigm. With his extensive knowledge in rehabilitation and sports specific training, he was selected to direct the 2008 Olympic Trials medical team for wrestling qualifiers, 2013 head medical staff for the World Grappling, Amateur MMA and Pancration Championships, as well as the head therapist for Team Ontario Wrestling and Canadian Grappling Championships.


Karen Dubeau
Director of Partner Engagement for ventureLAB

As Director of Partner Engagement for ventureLAB, Karen leads the development and management of strategic and collaborative partnerships key to ventureLAB’s clients and stakeholders, and to the evolution of a dynamic regional ecosystem supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.   Karen has experience as a successful founder and entrepreneur of an Ottawa technology firm, and has spent the last 6 years working with not-for-profit business associations and communities on strategic programs involving intelligent communities, gigabit corridors, knowledge mobilization for small businesses and building community-based collaboration ecosystems.  Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for province of Ontario, a Top 40 Under 40 Alumnus, the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada’s Staff Person of the Year Award, and most recently, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.


Reg Charney
Entrepreneur

Reg is an entrepreneur who has also been a marketeer, magazine columnist, consultant, and software engineer and designer.

He has created a number of software products and sold them the worldwide. In addition, he has also been a columnist for magazines such as Dr Dobbs Journal, Computer Language, and Linux Journal. While in Silicon Valley, Reg published a monthly news letter notable for its ability to predict employment trends three months in advance. He is a lifetime member of the ACCU (www.accu.org), the world's premier association for anyone interested in developing and improving their programming skills. While in Silicon Valley, Reg founded the ACCU's Silicon Valley Chapter and was its chairman for 5 years. Reg has also served as a marketing consultant to a number of Silicon Valley startups.

Giving back to the community is important. Reg was a member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and was Chairman of the Working Group on Program Design Standards. the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). He is also a strong supporter of the Open Source movement, and Electronic Freedom Foundation. Part of Regs core values is his belief that open sharing and easy access to information and expertise is key to our creativity, success, and freedom.
