Deepak Madnani

Deepak Madnani, Founder & CEO of Paperclip Startup Campus Serial entrepreneur and self proclaimed “Failure Specialist”; has had several founder journeys. Founder, Paperclip Startup Campus, where start-ups and entrepreneurs can collaborate and learn best practices to accelerate new venture development. Currently manages companies in Hong Kong and China in supply chain management, design and manufacturing of furniture and other products. Mentors start-ups, runs innovation business model sessions for corporates and angel invests. With Paperclip, enables entrepreneurs by using the latest and most effective start-up development curriculum, commonly known as the Lean Startup methodology and Business Model Canvas tools.

Expertise: start-up coaching, mentorship, angel investing, sustainability, manufacturing and running accelerators. Interests: social impact investing.

Alexandre Wayenberg

Alexandre Wayenberg is a serial entrepreneur, engineer and designer. Founder of Capsule a product development agency and co-founder of Doll Memories a colourful women apparel brand. He works with startups to turn their product ideas into reality. Adept of lean startup and customer development, he is frequently animating workshops and mentoring entrepreneurs. He is always ready to discuss and explore new ideas.

Ada Yip
Executive Director, Urban Spring

Ada is currently the Executive Director at Urban Spring, a start-up with a mission is to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic and its first product is reliable water dispenser that can be made available in public areas for citizens to refill their re-usable bottles. She has also recently founded 43 Ventures with 3 like-minded entrepreneurs who share the same commitment in supporting innovative start-ups. Prior to these recent ventures, Ada was the Program Director of the i2i (incubation to investment) program at SOW Asia. Ada is on the board of Hong Kong Institute of Social Impact Analysts, Education For Good (CIC) Limited and Teach4HK. Ada is also a mentor under the Mentoring Program for Women Leaders at The Women’s Foundation and the Hong Kong University Alumni Entrepreneur Club. Ada is dedicated to supporting the entrepreneurship development in Hong Kong, especially startups with a positive social or environmental impact.  

David Zhu

CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER & CO-FOUNDER Divide. Before co-founding Divide with Andrew and Alexander, David was the co-founder of a mobile security company (in 2005) that leveraged the strong two-factor personal authentication on cellphones. Before that, David was the Director of Engineering at Smule, where he created the initial Sonic Network, which powered many of the company’s #1 hits on the Apple App Store including Ocarina, Sonic Lighter, and I Am T-Pain. Over the years, David has held technical roles at companies such as Morgan Stanley, Jarna, and HP. At the beginning of his career, David hacked mobile devices and has since worked at securing many major platforms including Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, PalmOS, and Symbian. David holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Joanne Lee

After consulting on a multi-million dollar portal redevelopment project for Audi USA, Joanne moved to Hong Kong in 2013 and joined TAPevents as its first employee. As a member of the management team now, Joanne supports TAPevents in its mission to deliver digital event technology to enhance the overall events experience. Over the past year and a half of operations, TAPevents has grown to serve an international roster of clients ranging from auction houses, schools and NGOs to Fortune 500 companies.

Bay McLaughlin
Co-founder of Brinc

Bay is a co-founder of Brinc, a global IoT accelerator and platform based in Hong Kong with offices in Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Having spent half of his career in or founding startups, he now brings his experience and operations abilities to connect the dots from Asia to Silicon Valley for IoT companies from around the world.

As a founding team member of Apple’s global SMB channel and founder of their first Entrepreneurship Evangelism channel, Bay has partnered with the world’s best founders, venture capitalists, and accelerators to identify and solve their most pressing strategic issues. With 8 software and 11 hardware portfolio holdings, he’s successfully made the transition from digital to physical and from San Francisco to Asia.

As a regular mentor for Chinaccelerator, the Thiel Foundation, and other startup ecosystems in Asia, Bay is passionate about investing in founders with a global vision. He speaks regularly at conferences, most recently at Web Summit, Echelon, RISE and LAUNCH, Hong Kong’s inaugural consumer IoT Summit.

Andrew Chan
Co-Founder and CMO of AfterShip

Andrew is a Co-Founder and CMO of AfterShip – the winner of the 1st Startup Weekend Hong Kong and 2011 Global Startup Battle. AfterShip is a shipment tracking application for online retailers, supporting over 100 carriers worldwide. Andrew is responsible for UI / UX design, SEO, partnership, PR and customer communications at AfterShip. Andrew previously worked for Accenture as an IT consultant. Andrew graduated from the University of Hong Kong. In his free time he hikes and kayaks in Hong Kong.

Atin Batra
Lead Mentor

Atin is a digital marketing specialist, with an unhealthy soft spot for social media and user communities. Armed with an MBA in Communications Management, he learnt the ins and outs of brand management at the world's second largest business newspaper. An optimist by nature, he is currently living his dream of being an entrepreneur at the cross-section of his passions: digital media, events and startups. When not executing social media campaigns for clients at his agency ab.Initio..HK Ltd., Atin is probably teaching digital marketing, mentoring startups or hiking trails.

Holger Bartel

Holger Bartel is a digital strategist and web designer/developer based in Hong Kong where he opened an office in 2009, after co-founding uforepublic, a design studio, in Germany in 2001.
He now mostly works as a web consultant and front end developer focusing on responsive web design, the mobile web as well as web performance and is passionate about bringing the latest in web technologies to Asia and building awareness for a future-friendly and standards-based web.
He also founded and runs the Open Device Lab HK, works as a part-time lecturer at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's school of design, mentors for startups and speaks at conferences.

Karena Belin

Karena co-founded W Hub out of Passion and Admiration for the Entrepreneurial spirit and the conviction that too many Talent is under-leveraged. It was time to make a difference, to help the Startup Ecosystem open up and grow and give Talent access to a job they really care about.
Originally from Germany, Karena has worked over 14 years for Procter & Gamble in leading roles in Finance, Sales, Business Planning and Management across Germany, France, North East Asia and Greater China.
Her experience spans over areas such as controlling, product launches, portfolio management, strategic business planning, organisation re-design, competitive intelligence and negotiations.
Karena is also very passionate about driving diversity and inclusion and as such active as SVP of Business Development and Communications at WoW (Women on the Way-up) of the American Women Association in Hong Kong. And she loves being involved in her daughters’ school as VP of Events in the Parent Faculty Organisation of the Hong Kong International School (HKIS).

Niomal Lyanage

A serial entrepreneur and business mentor with extensive management consulting experience, ‘Nio’ is an advocate of combining startup principles with established strategic conventions to build and grow businesses. Having assisted over a hundred startups in various capacities while working on numerous ones himself, Nio is deeply integrated in Hong Kong’s thriving startup community. He completed the first ever comprehensive market-sizing exercise of Hong Kong startups, has developed substantial intellectual property, and regularly conducts workshops and seminars on entrepreneurship. He is a mentor for Cyberport Incubation Programme and teaches Business Fundamentals & Tactics for General Assembly.

Ying Kit Yuen

Kit graduated from Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor and M.Phil Degree in Electronic Engineering. He previously worked in Beansbox Studio Limited and has extensive experience working with CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PHP as well as Drupal which is the well known open sourced Content Managment System (CMS).Currently he is working in some backend projects for Lane Crawford and teaching for General Assembly in a part-time basis. Kit is a travel lover and he completed the round island cycling in Taiwan last year.

Martin Kessler

CMO at Ambi Labs. Director at Founder Institute, Hong Kong. Formerly Founder & CEO of Phonejoy. Over 5 years experience in hardware, startups and product marketing. Passionate about growth hacking. Unreasonably attracted to big challenges, Martin enjoys playing games on very hard difficulty.

Raymond Yip
Co-founder at Designjar

Raymond has managed product design and engineering for Fortune 500 companies between the U.S. and Asia during an extensive career in technology. Raymond is also a UI/UX designer. He has launched a multitude of products including e-commerce, web/mobile apps, social network and Facebook applications in the past. Most recently, he was a Co-founder and the CEO of Shopline, a localised e-commerce company based in Hong Kong. Raymond is an alumnus of the global accelerator 500 Startups in Silicon Valley and was also a winner at Startup Weekend. As an entrepreneur based in Hong Kong, he regularly advises young startups on fundraising, team building and how to turn local ideas into companies with a cross-border impact via technology. He is also a big proponent of entrepreneurship for university students in shaping the future of Hong Kong.

Tony Wong

Tony Wong, CTO of Shopline, is an entrepreneur and software engineer that has extensive experience in Web and Mobile Apps development. He gained much of his experience in the media industry while working at TVB.COM as an Engineer and Next Media as a Project Manager. Tony developed and released the popular mobile app myEPG for TVB.COM in just 2 months. He is passionate about startups and is experienced in startup dynamics as a founding member of Viss, a mobile app focusing on fashion in Asia, that was acquired in Dec 2013. Tony was an Overall Winner at Startup Weekend HK 2013 and he also holds a Master of Science from HKUST Business School. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Tony has lived and worked in different parts of the world, including Latin America, Canada and other parts of South East Asia, giving him unique insight into many emerging markets around the globe. Shopline is a Silicon Valley funded 500 Startups Accelerator company. It enables Asian merchants to easily launch online and mobile shops. Their platform supports native language content and regional payment methods.

Fiona Lau

Fiona Lau, COO of Shopline, has a background in finance and business development with a focus on the retail and consumer industry in Asia. Prior to Shopline, she works in equity research on the Hong Kong/China/Taiwan retail sector at Goldman Sachs and looking at new growth opportunities at Hong Kong Disneyland. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Psychology with Honours from the University of Chicago. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. Constantly look for innovative ways to acquire and retain customers, Fiona is now the chief marketer and hustler at Shopline. Shopline is a Silicon Valley funded 500 Startups Accelerator company. It enables Asian merchants to easily launch online and mobile shops. Their platform supports native language content and regional payment methods.

Jason Li

Jason Li has worked with tech companies and startups in San Francisco, Barcelona, Beijing and Hong Kong. Past clients include Skype, Microsoft, Intel, Philips and MySpace. Over the course of his career, he has played the roles of founder-designer, creative director, consultant and wireframing peon.     

Bart Verkoeijen

Bart is a software developer building apps, web and cloud. With over 10 years in the web industry and several years of running an IT department, he knows how to deliver a full circle solution. You can catch up with him at one of the Friday Beer Bay casual drinking meetups he organises for startups and web technologists. Bart has participated and volunteered for several startup weekends and knows how to play the game. He currently works on Flippercast, a startup kickstarted during the last SWHK. He'd love to mentor and guide teams on how to make the most out of the weekend.

Fanny Moritz
Founder & CEO at NO!W No Waste

For the past 15 years, I always had a passion for developing and designing websites. When I arrived in Hong Kong in 2011, I've decided to start my own company NETPOM Web Agency. I since worked for top brands all over the world (Ladurée, Havas, Paul, H&M, Pastis etc.).

Late 2015, I have become focused on a Zero Waste Lifestyle working towards producing less waste. I didn't find any reusable or compostable products to start my challenge. I then decided to build NO!W No Waste, an e-shop which sells all the essentials to reduce your daily waste.

Dan Szuc

Dan Szuc is a co-founder at Apogee and UX Hong Kong. He has been involved in the UX field for 20 + years and presents and teaches about UX globally. Dan is passionate about education and personal well.

Jo Wong

Jo Wong is a co-founder at Apogee and UX Hong Kong. She has been involved in the UX field for 15 + years and works on regional and global projects to help teams with human centred design. Jo is passionate about the environment and health.  

Elaine Ann

CEO and Founder of Kaizor InnovationElaine Ann is the Founder and CEO of Kaizor Innovation. She is a veteran of the early dot-com era in the mid 90's having lived and worked in the U.S. for 12 years. She has worked for companies such as Razorfish, Philips Design, Henry Dreyfuss in New York and Silicon Valley and have designed the User Experiences of some of the very early Internet/technology businesses such as, Intuit's Quicken, Philips Networked Home etc. Elaine’s current strategic innovation consultancy Kaizor Innovation helps companies strategize, research, and define innovative products and services for the China market as well as training executives and students alike on New Product/Services Innovation and User Experience.

Napolean Biggs

A founding partner in Bolei Digital, Napoleon is pioneering innovative omni-channel retail technologies with fashion and apparel brands across the globe. The first product ( connects a brand's full range of stock to the cloud and facilitates real-time fulfilment across all channels, be it in-store, online or on mobile. A digital marketing evangelist, thought leader and senior advisor on emerging communications and ecommerce strategies in Asia, he is also known as host of “Web Wednesday”, a 4,000 strong community for digital media and internet executives that he founded in July 2006. Web Wednesday has grown to become a leading networking community with monthly gatherings and talks in Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai and Ho Chi Minh City.
