The Fashion industry is evolving at such a rapid rate with the rise of technology. How we look and dress has changed over the centuries and whether you are in fast fashion or high-end, designer and consumers strive to look best to impress. Here's where you come in, join us in being the catalyst in the system, anywhere from the design, supply chain, retail and distribution of fashion. Create the trend in 54 hours!

Startup Weekend is a global movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 2,900+ past events in 150 countries around the world to date. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model:
  • Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers;
  • Teams are formed around the top ideas (determined by popular vote);
  • Then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.
  • The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
  • Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups.

Quinn Lai
Founder of EONIQ

Quinn Lai is a serial entrepreneur in Hong Kong and the United States. His startups have achieved impacts in different ways from enabling impoverished students to learn more effectively to prolonging (or even saving) the lives of terminally ill patients. He was also a Hewlett Packard (WebOS) product manager and a McKinsey consultant. His current venture, EONIQ (http://www.eoniq.co) aims to revolutionize how watches are designed and bring custom time pieces to everyone.
Quinn received his M.S. (Stanford Graduate Fellow) at Stanford University and his B.S. at Georgia Institute of Technology, both in the field of Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Product Design and Innovation. Utilizing his training and experience in design thinking and need finding, he has been involved in the development of multiple MNC’s innovative products/processes, including but not limited to card based multitasking UI for mobile devices, next generation automotive infotainment system and a car design process which includes international market insights.


Arnault Castel
Founder of KAPOK

Born and raised in France, Arnault founded kapok in 2006 as an antidote to the perceived blandness of Hong Kong retail scene. kapok focuses on designers and brands whose work reflects his attitude towards quality craftsmanship and creativity in design. kapok has grown to a network of 7 stores in 2 countries : Hong Kong and Singapore.Arnault has developed an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Asian consumer goods and retail environment since 1996, when he moved to Hong Kong. In 2001, he joined the team in charge of the development of the Lomography brand in Asia as the head of Southeast Asian operations. Arnault is also the co-owner and director of Working Unit Limited founded in 2005, the exclusive distributor for the Moleskine brand in Southeast Asia.


Alan Cheung
Chairman & Managing Director of GRANDION INDUSTRIAL Ltd.

Mr Cheung founded Grandion Industrial Ltd. (a member of Grandion Group) in 1996. Grandion is a supply chain solution provider which specializes in apparel design, screen printing, embroidery, trimming & manufacturing with production facilities located in Shenzhen, Panyu, Changan and Humen in Dongguan of Guangdong Province. In 2015, Grandion is launching an innovative industrial project called TML (To make locally) in HK. The TML project unleashes the competitive edges of Hong Kong which includes the top design talents, free flow of goods, information and funds, and a sound legal foundation to protect intellectual property rights so as to build “Made by Hong Kong” brands. Meanwhile, the operating purpose of the TML project is to create economic value in a way that also creates values for society so to achieve a sustainable & diversified development of enterprises & of Hong Kong. Besides as an industrialist, Mr Cheung actively supports the young designers & the start-ups to develop their branding businesses by serving as their mentor & to collaborate with the social entrepreneurs to improve & solve the social issues through social innovations.


Dorian Ho
CEO & Creative Director of DORIANO INTERNATIONAL LTD.

Dorian Ho is one of the most renowned fashion designers in Hong Kong. He launched his first evening gown collection “Dorian Ho Collection” in 2001. In the same year, his collection was showcased in Sydney at the Mercedes Australian Fashion Week and Fashion Week in New York. Dorian Ho Collection is now selling worldwide. In 2005, he launched his custom-made bridal collection, Dorian Ho Bridal, which made him one of the most popular wedding gown designers. In 2011, he introduced a children’s party clothes collection - ‘BabyDoll By Dorian Ho”, and in the following year, he has launched “Dorian Ho Homme” for men. Taking one step at a time, Dorian Ho is gradually expanding the map of his fashion kingdom. In recent years, Dorian has been designing specialty uniforms for various industries including airlines, banks, hotels, restaurants, property developer and cosmetic companies to name a few. Dorian Ho Collection is currently presented at prestige showrooms in Paris and New York. 


Michelle Lai
Founder & Creative Director of MISCHA

After gaining a degree in Biomedical Sciences at Kings College London, Michelle began a career in education. However, it was not long before her passion for travel, art and creative pursuits lead her in a new direction. In 2004 Michelle debuted her maiden collection of hand-stitched vintage Japanese obi clutches. They quickly gained a cult following and MISCHA was launched in 2008. In search for a way to make her mark, Michelle created the Travel Series in 2010, the first collection to feature the brand's signature hexagon print. Michelle has featured in Forbes as “one of Asia’s handbag brands to have successfully gone global.” She has also been featured by Harper’s Bazaar, People Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.com, among other notable magazines. Michelle has a long standing commitment towards empowering women, expressed through her work with The Women’s Foundation and charities supporting girl's education. Michelle was invited to be a speaker at TEDx Youth Hong Kong in 2013 and was featured in Star World TV’s Inspiring Women special for International Women’s Day in 2014.


Elle Lee
Style Influencer, Personality & Founder of elleiconlee.com

Elle is a renowned fashion, travel and lifestyle influencer in Greater China. She is based between Hong Kong and Shanghai, her style and photos have been featured on numerous international publications such as Vogue International together with Jenner Kendal and Justin Bieber. Elle is also a popular personality and appears on TV/online as a celebrity guest/judge, she also hosts and produces her own shows. She was named one of the top 5 most inspiring IG in Asia by WGSN, a TEDx speaker, the latest TechCrunch China host and has over half a million followers combined. Elle collaborates with fashion brands for styling, photo shoot and also provides private consultations on branding. She founded elleiconlee.com in Year 2012 as a way of sharing her life with the world in both Chinese and English.


Coaches and Mentors


Olivia Lee
Digital Publisher and Co-founder of The Closeteur

Hailing from Canada, Olivia is an entrepreneur with a passion for fashion and technology. Her professional experience includes 3+ years as the brand manager of the luxury Swiss watch brand Parmigiani; a director of a professional fundraising company that has raised over USD 20M for charities in Hong Kong and Asia. She is a contributor writer on international publications, is an opinion leader on topics such as technology and luxury.
In 2015 she created and co-founded The Closeteur Magazine, Hong Kong's first interactive and digital magazine dedicated to fashion and conscious lifestyle.


Walter Kong
Co-founder of BLIND by JW

Walter was graduated at Polytechnic University in Hong Kong and had won ‘The overall championship of Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ contest 2007. Walter has worked in many well-known fashion companies across China and Hong Kong. Blind by JW established in 2012 by two fashion designers Jessica Lau and Walter Kong. Within two years Blind by JW stepped out into Hong Kong and London fashion industry, successfully joined and supported by Hong Kong Design Innocentre and Fashion Farm Foundation. This year Blind by JW has open their first Popup Store and Concept Store at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1 and K11 Shopping Mall.


Jessica Lau
Co-founder of BLIND by JW

Jessica was graduated from Central Saint Martins Art and Design College from London and have elected for ‘Best Emerging Fashion designer’ in London. Jessica has worked in luxury fashion houses across the world from Alexander McQueen in London, John Galliano in Paris and Diane Von Furstenberg in New York before settling to join Walter.
Blind by JW is a Womenswear label; a grand feminine style with elegance combining with hand drawn digitalised print and cultural inspiration that can tell a story. Using authentic blind as their inspiration. Using intricate hand drawn technique to draw the outside world bringing the enchanted fairy tale beauty within.



Sonia Hung
Fashion Business Consultant, Entrepreneur and Designer

Sonia has founded / co-founded 2 fashion brands in London.
She consults on wide aspects of business from sourcing, merchandising to branding, (digital) marketing, management and strategy.
With 10+ years of background in the fashion business, and has worked with / for some of the biggest retailers around the world, she has profound knowledge on the entire fashion business value chain. She supports entrepreneurship and has been coach to the Young Founders School and advisor to fashion-tech startups.


Michael Chik
Founder and Director / Consultant of ARSAGILIS

Michael is extremely knowledgable and a great certified coach / consultant on lean and agile process/ startups. He has coached for many big companies such as JP Morgan, Fidelity Internationaly, Standard Chartered Bank, etc. He charges thousands of $ per hour for coaching. It will be extrememly valuable to have him even for one day, and for free!


Lukas Hlavac
Co-founder & COO of WHOOLALA

Lukas is the co-founder and COO of Whoolala, a data driven marketpalce for Asian indie labels. He has done more than 100 pitches and some press coverage. Prior to Whoolala, he's from a business development background of luxury furnitures and artpieces.


Anna Wong
Co-founder of Female Entrepreneurs Worldwide

With a genuine love for helping and growing people, Anna speaks at universities, conferences and TED. She is also a mentor for entrepreneurial programs organised by   large corporates and government bodies. Besides, she is a PR partner/advisor for local and overseas startups.   Anna is strong at strategic planning, stakeholders engagement, crisis management, project execution, market entry and growth, and cost effectiveness analysis. She worked for world's leading communications agencies, O&M and Edelman, responsible for designing integrated communications and marketing strategies to promote global brands especially in Asia Pacific. Accounts include GSK, Novartis, Bayer, Starbucks, Wyndham Hotel Group, The Economist & ebay, etc.   Anna and her family members lived and worked in different countries, so she gained a broader world perspective and knowledge of international cultures and business environment. Outside of work, you will most often find Anna enjoying time with her friends.


Nikhil Berry
Financial Engineer, Entrepreneur

Nikhil is a financial engineer by profession with a passion for entrepreneurship and the startup world. He currently works at an investment bank in Hong Kong at the intersection of finance, data science and cutting-edge technology. In his free time, he develops smartphone apps and helps the community with his technology skills. One of his biggest strengths is his effectiveness in transforming raw ideas into successful products while taking into account aspects such as the business model, profitability, market entry, growth strategy and customer experience. Nikhil has lived in India and Hong Kong and holds a Bachelor in Computer Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.


Harry Chai
Co-Founder & CEO of iSTYLEUP

Co-Founder & CEO of iSTYLEUP (global styling social commerce platform) and Shopins (single app of multiple loyalty programs), serial tech entrepreneur, previously Director of The Mills (upcoming Hong Kong’s largest fashion incubation hub in 2018 developed by Nan Fung Group), Head of New Business Development team of Nan Fung Development Ltd. MBA of Columbia Business School, Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Arts of the University of Hong Kong, Registered Architect.


Jan Smejkal
China & APAC Community Director @ Startup Grind

I'm Jan Smejkal and I build an awesome startup community in China, APAC and beyond on behalf of Startup Grind. I helped launch a venture for Rocket Internet (in 2 markets), built an online business during my last year of BA and found a passion in connecting and educating people in the startup world. I grew up in a small village in the south of the Czech Republic with a strong desire to explore the world and challenge myself. I studied Mechatronics in high school, have a BA in Economics and Finance and am now pursuing an MSc in Management at the Peking University HSBC Business School in Shenzhen (China). In my free time, I study Mandarin Chinese and mentor companies, startups, and individuals on how to master the art of building long-lasting relationships (business networking).


Kevin campbell
CTO

With a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from Edinburgh University, Kevin has over 14 years experience in software development and management, both in startups and established multinationals. He has spent the last 8 years establishing and leading development teams in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Kevin is currently the CTO of Alvanon, a company that advises many of the world's leading apparel brands with regards to their garment sizing and product fit. Alvanon provide consultancy services and supply brands with specially constructed design forms, derived from their databases of over 200,000 body scans collected from around the globe. He mostly spends his time on new development projects involving deep learning, 3D vision and the latest in body scanning technologies.


Charlotte Felix O'Conor
Founder, Capsule

Charlotte is the Founder of Capsule; a data-driven curated fashion & content platform launching early 2017. This new venture combines her experience in building Stylecab; a fashion consultancy providing the first personal stylists network covering the Fashion Capitals with Asia, as well as introducing independent brands to the Asian retail market; together with her extensive background in television and fashion publishing. She is a passionate entrepreneur and believes in the Lean Start-Up process as well as the value of the Disruptive Strategy model for any organisation big or small and runs Start-Up Clinics helping entrepreneurs navigate the early stages.  Charlotte also runs Futurproof, a social initiative advising NGO’s and securing expertise from the corporate sector to benefit not-for-profits who work with children and use the power of education to transform lives.

Founder @ Sparkle Academy Myanmar

Cynthia is the founder of Sparkle Academy, where she envisions business and technology education can empower the youths in developing countries. She has a passion for social innovation and and loves to enrich her knowledge, she studied business in the UK and self learnt front-end development.  She enjoys every second volunteering for Techstar’s Startup Weekend for the past four years.
