In just 54 hours, you will meet a dream startup team, do market research, build product, and demonstrate your business in front of judges and potential investors.

Event Judges


William Liang
Director / Adjunct Assistant Professor / Co-founder, Idea Mill Limited / PolyU SD / Dim Sum Labs (hackerspace)

William spent 12 years in Silicon Valley and started his career on Wall Street. He worked for several venture backed Internet startups including Tellme, which was successfully acquired by Microsoft.
He holds a B.S. Engineering degree from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania in Systems Engineering.
He is an adjunct assistant professor at the School of Design of HK Polytechnic University, instructor for the Gifted and Talented Program at the Chinese University, founder of Idea Mill Ltd. and Dim Sum Labs, advisor to Floship Ltd., Jobdoh.com, IU travel, and 巧克力(深圳)科技有限公司.
He also acts as mentor and judge at several entrepreneurship organisations such as PolyU micro fund, Chinese U+Google EYE, Startup Weekend, Bootcamp/AcceleratorHK, and StartLab.

Raymond Chu
Assistant Director, Institute for Entrepreneurship, PolyU

Mr. Raymond Chu, CFA Assistant Director (Entrepreneurship & Commercialization) Institute for Entrepreneurship, PolyU
Mr. Raymond Chu has 20 years of commercial experience encompassing different sectors including IT, banking and finance, advertising, retail, healthcare, Chinese medicines, technology transfer and most recently innovation and entrepreneurship development.  Currently serving as Assistant Director of Institute for Enterprise of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Raymond’s works focus on promoting and executing University’s knowledge transfer and commercialization projects, as well as “out-of-classroom” innovations and entrepreneurship development activities, overseeing startup seed funding programmes like PolyU Micro Fund, China Entrepreneurship Fund, Tech Incubation Fund, Tech Launchpad Fund and Good Seed Programme.    
Before joining PolyU, Raymond has worked in a number of multinational and local corporations.  He was Assistant Vice President of Crédit Agricole Investment Bank (formerly Crédit Lyonnais) working on infrastructure project financing, and Project Manager in Hutchison Whampoa Group responsible for setting up Chinese medicine business ventures.  He also headed the business development department of the Healthworks Group during which he had successfully structured and concluded a multi-million US dollar business transfer deal between the Group and Coca Cola.
Raymond is a Chartered Financial Analyst.  He is also the assessment panel members of design incubation programme of the Hong Kong Design Centre, and assessment panel member for PMQ studio application.  He also served as Co-Chairman of Industrial Liaison Committee of the Licensing Executive Society China (Hong Kong Sub-chapter) from 2008 to 2010.


Sherman Lam
President, Institute of Certified Marketers

Mr Sherman Lam established Institute of Certified Marketers (ICM) in December 2014 and he will be taking up the position as a Founder and President of ICM. He currently serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Management and Marketing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
In Sherman’s younger days, he started his career as a system integrator and ran his small software house in the early 80’s before moving on to the garment industry, marketing consultancy and academia.
Although his colourful career saw him working in divested industries, the majority of them are engaging in strategic management and marketing alongside of his current teaching career at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. These education and senior management experiences enable Sherman to develop a well-rounded approach in his teaching, training and coaching which meets the needs of the real business world. Apart from his teaching role, he had been instrumental in spear heading the repositioning of the Faculty of Business at PolyU between the periods of 2004 to 2006 as PolyU’s first (Acting) Marketing Director.
Sherman was one of the long serving members of HKIM and he has also served as a Chairman twice over the period of over one decade before he decided to establish ICM. He has a strong passion to serve and is well known in his persistent demand for high standard in ethnical and professional marketing practices.

Jacky Chan is an award-winning technical entrepreneur in Hong Kong. Won Hong Kong ICT Awards Bronze by building the first multichannel CRM with Wechat deep integration. Won Cyberport Shanghai-Hong Kong Hackathon Second Prize by hacking Whatsapp protocol. Won Startup Weekend Hong Kong Best Mobile App Award. He cofounded notably StyleNearBy, StampUp, OmniStream, StartLab Hong Kong and now Votee. Has been incubated in Cyberport, Science Park, PolyU Micro Fund and Alchemist Accelerator. Experience in cloud technologies and coaching skills. He is also active in startup communities: mentors at Startup Weekend, PolyU Micro Fund and Good Seed Hong Kong.


Kent Cheng
Co-founder, Bravolol

Kent, Co-founder of Bravolol - 9 years of experience in IT industry - 6 years of entrepreneurial experience - Graduated from PolyU B.S (Hons) in Computing with 1st Class Honors - Founded Bravolol offering Multilingual dictionary and Phrasebook for more than 18 languages. He's interested in algorithmic trading, ASO, artificial neural network and deep learning
