Startup Weekend Hong Kong Travel

Travel industry is facing a new wave of disruption with the revolution of sharing economies, emerging trends of alternative accomodation, millennials' new behavoir, efficient social media channel.  

By spending a weekend working to build scalable companies that solve real world problems, you will build long-lasting relationships and possibly walk away with a job or even an investor.  You can get one-on-one time with the experienced startup community leaders and mentors. Meet and get valuable feedback from a panel of judges and startup coaches.    

Meet new friends, form a team, and hack a startup in 54 hours! 

Tickets are priced at HKD$350 - for all the participants. This includes a beautiful t-shirt, 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 3 dinners, with loads of Energy drinks and snacks to keep you going all weekend long.

Andy Bien
Chief Information Officer, Airport Authority Hong Kong

Currently the Chief Information Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, Mr Andy Bien has been in the Information Technology (IT) industry for over 30 years. He is responsible for the strategic planning and provisioning of IT services to Hong Kong International Airport and its community. He is also active in community works to promote IT industry development, green IT, innovation and talent cultivation.
Trained as an engineer, Mr Bien’s technical expertise spans from hardware design, software development to lectureship in tertiary institution. He has extensive business and management experience in the finance, telecommunication, logistics, transportation and aviation industries.
Mr Bien obtained his BSc Degree (Hons) in Computer Engineering from Queen’s University, Canada and MSc Degree in Communication Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.

Honnus Cheung
Regional CFO, Travelzoo

Ms. Honnus Cheung has served as the Chief Financial Officer at Travelzoo, Asia Pacific since September 2015. Ms. Cheung served as the Group Chief Financial Officer of Travelzoo (Asia Pacific) Inc from November 2009 to August 2015 and the Chief Financial Officer for Asia Pacific at Travelzoo Inc. from September 2007 to October 2009. Prior to working at Travelzoo, Ms. Cheung served as the regional finance director of Yahoo Asia Pacific operations from 1999 to 2007. Prior to working at Yahoo, Ms. Cheung worked various professional positions at American Standard and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ms. Cheung is a fellow member of Hong Kong Institution of Certified Public Accountants of Hong Kong (FCPA) and Certified Practising Accountants of Australia (FCPA), respectively. She is also a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors (FHKIoD). She received her bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Queensland, Australia and MBA degree from Northwestern University, United States.

Gene Soo
Director and Co-founder, StartupsHK

Gene Soo is a serial entrepreneur and has launched businesses in tech and fashion space. He is a computer engineer by training and has worked in Silicon Valley as an engineer at SanDisk and also at Accenture as a management consultant. Since returning to Hong Kong in 2009, Gene has worked at a family office and also at 6waves as a Business Development Director. Besides having co-founded StartupsHK, Gene also co-founded StyleNearby, a mobile platform for showcasing designs in a city and is also the director of S.Nine by Susanna Soo, a womenswear fashion label. Gene is currently the General Manager of Hong Kong of Citymapper, an award-winning journey planning app.

Gene has been active in pushing for a better startup ecosystem in Hong Kong and has been involved in technology, mobile, gaming and fashion start-ups space. Gene received his BS and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University as well as a MBA from Columbia University.

Rebecca Leung

Rebecca is the pioneer team member of KKday (Taiwan-headquartered) in Hong Kong and takes the wheel for KKday's market expansion in the South East Asia, overseeing the rapid growth of 4 promising markets in the region. Prior to this, she grew and headed the growth team in Hong Kong, curated the early expansion of KKday : Unique tours and activities. Believing that authentic experience is the core value of “Traveling”, KKday has collected more than 10000+ worldwide experiences from our professional providers and unique local experts. Kirill Pavlov
Data Scientist, Terminal 1

Kirill has graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology with the major in machine learning. He started his career in Yandex, largest Russian search engine, working on advertisement relevancy prediction. With experience in both analytics and software engineering, he then moved to Hong Kong to work as a team lead in multi-channel advertisement management system. Later he joined Asia Miles data science team and applied machine learning techniques in the enterprise. Currently, Kirill is working in Terminal 1, Recruitment tech company bringing data science into talent sourcing process. He is passionate about machine learning and open source projects.

Stephen Leung
Founder & CEO, Travoasia

Stephen is the founder of Travoasia, a mobile platform for travelers to connect with local home chefs. The aims is to provide unique activities to travelers around the globle. Travoasia manage to gain traction and generate revenue within 4 months of it launch with thousands of users. Stephen start his career with mobile gaming and founded his first startup in 2005. He managed to publish more than 20 game titles with revenue reaching 3 millions HKD in 2015. With more than 1 million downlaod on his game products, Stephen have solid expereince in mobile devlopment and an extensive network in the industry. In addition, Stephen has been active in the Start up community in Hong Kong. He is a guest lecturer with Hong Kong Polytechnic Universtity, Hong Kong ICT best digital game award winner and was a Cyberport incubation program graduated. 

Candice Adams
Founder and UX Designer of Invisible Design

Candice has been designing experiences for over 6 years and recently started her own UX design company. With her passion for invisible design and psychology, a background in marketing, and a default for optimizing experiences everywhere, Candice uses her UX powers mostly for good. Prior to her design company, Candice was the UX Design Lead at a local software company, where she designed web interfaces and apps (for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android), and managed conversion rate optimization projects. You may sometimes find Candice sitting at dog parks in case one of the dogs asks for a new home.

Jessica Pang
UX Strategist & Storyteller at

UX Strategist passionate on all things consumer, insight and strategy. I enjoy crafting great experiences previously in retail and currently the travel industry. I've told data-driven stories at an airline loyalty program, crafted empathetic design solutions and have wonderful chronicles of my hackathons and travels. Learn more at!

Creative & digital entrepreneur, Web designer and tech-savvy fashionista, Hayley is the founder of Studio 179 - Squarespace design & development studio for blogs & ecommerce. She also created This Is Faded - Lifestyle macbook skin that matches your outfit. 
You can find her blogging on"179CM & UP' on the hunt for the city's best style, or exploring incredible locations for food and coffee to her 30,000+ social media followers. 
She was formerly the PR executive of Ogilvy & Mather. Entrepreneur in Residence at Mettā with over 14 years of experience in fashion buying and digital marketing. Hayley collaborates with fashion brands for act direction, styling and photo shoot and also provides private consultations on branding.

Maggie Luk
Assistant Vice President, Citi

Maggie is a banker at Citi Corporate Banking. She is responsible for reviewing corporate loan returns, project management, and strategic planning for Corporate Bank in Asia Pacific. Prior to that, she was a relationship manager at Citi for more than 5 years, covering local corporates and public sector clients. She specializes in credit analysis and financial modeling.

She has strong passion in building the startup ecosystem and fostering collaboration between startups, investors, and corporates. She has been working as a facilitator and organizer at Techstars Startup Weekend. She works with various counterparties and sponsors to promote entrepreneurship.
