What is Startup Weekend?

Startup Weekend, powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, is non-profit entrepreneurship education event that brings together innovators, marketers, developers and designers. In just 54 hours, you will meet a dream startup team, do market research, build product, and demonstrate your business in front of judges and potential investors.

When is Startup Weekend?

This event will be held on June 29-30th & July 1st 2018 from 6:30 pm at PolyU InnoHub at V Core. Startup Weekend PolyU is one of the 1,000 global events being featured in 2018. Deposit will be refundable upon full attendance (Full-time PolyU Students only), sponsored and endorsed by Institute for Entrepreneurship of PolyU.

Who is Startup Weekend For?

It doesn't matter what major you are in or where you come from, Startup Weekend is designed as an inclusive event and program that brings all sorts of people together to exchange ideas and develop it in the 54hours.

Do I need to come with an idea?

If you have an idea for a startup, then great! We hope you pitch for the weekend. If you don't have an idea, that's quite alright! Come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched, and see if something piques your interest! Jack Kong
Investment Director at Hong Kong X-Tech Startup Platform

Mr. Kong graduated from Professional Accountancy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and he is a chartered accountant of HKICPA. Before joining Hong Kong X, Mr. Kong worked in the Merger & Acquisition Department of E&Y, Sequoia Capital China and Investment Monitoring Department of Tencent. 

Co-founder SLLIN Consultants

Became a management at the age of 28 serving clients in APAC and Europe. Since then, he applied his A.I. and technology knowledge into business operation, provide consultation to companies to enhance the operation and marketing effectiveness. 

Passionate in supporting younger generation, by providing mentorship and internship to students, and deliver speech and guest lecture in universities.

In 2012, SL had co-founded his first company SLLIN Consultants with his partners. As the Director and the support from his partners, SL drives the growth of the company quickly, from 2 people to over 30 staff in 3 years time.

Since 2015, SL also responsible for evaluate new business opportunities for investment for HITA Group.

I have gained experience in managing core business functions including strategic development, operational planning, finance, marketing and investor relations across various multicultural and organizational contexts, including startups. My passion for and background in Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics has enabled me to engage with, analyze, structure and translate data insights effectively in order to leverage and drive strategic and operational business decisions.

Verlebie Chan
Program Manager, Microsoft Greater China Region

Verlebie is working as program manager in Microsoft. She currently is focused on driving code-with motions like hackathon and sandbox projects to accelete digital transformation with indsutrial key stakeholders. She is also responsible for nurturing programs with startups, academia and open-source communities with emerging technologies like AI, Data and MR. Organized 1000+attendees events as Tech Summit 2017 and Imagine Cup Hong Kong, she is very active and passionate to tech. She is acting as the lead for Women@MS now and planning another signature event #WomenThinkNext.

Emily Cheng
Digital Strategist, Oddup

A curious, passionate and empathic thinker. A 'sponge' who thrives in cross-cultural and cross-functional teams. Co-founder of wwwUxer, a global community accelerating digital innovators. She has spent half of her career growing up around early-stage startups funded by government, angels and VCs.

Mui Kinoshita
Co-founder & CEO, ASA innovation & technology limited

Mui comes from a strong multicultural background and graduated from Master in Design with Distinction honour from Milano Domus Academy. She has over 12 years’ experience in providing the one-stop solution from product design & development, production, branding, retail design to sales and marketing. Mui studied industrial and strategic design in Hong Kong, UK, Finland and Italy respectively and was selected as the Best HK Young Designer, and 40 under 40 Top Asian Young Design Talent. Mui exhibits and sells her product around the world and she has earned numerous international awards i.e Reddot Design Award, Global Design Award, iF Design Award China etc. Her design were reported by international journals including New York Times, Yanko Design, Designboom and the pieces are collected by MOMA stores (The Museum of Modern Art) in New York, San Francesco, and Tokyo. To serve the design industry, Mui is the Head of Product Council and Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Designers Association since 2012.

Ivan Oung
Director & Co-Founder, Cohort 6 Productions

Jade Lam
Logistics Director, Macy’s China

Jade is a logistics & supply chain expert in cross-border e-Commerce, warehousing and distribution and international trade. Presently, she is a Logistics Director with Macy’s China, overseeing their cross-border e-Commerce operations from international locations into China. Her other corporate experiences include being a General Manager for a major 3rd party logistics company, running a sizable regional commercial portfolio in contract logistics. She has worked internationally in Europe, China and Korea.

Jade has also created a Korea based startup company focusing on e-Commerce fulfillment and final mile delivery. The venture was successfully funded by Korea Government’s Global Accelerator Program for Foreign startups. Outside of work, Jade is passionate about social causes, technology and innovation.

Keith NG
Investor, Launch Campus - incubating student startup heroes to change the world

After winning Startup Weekend in 10 countries, Keith came back from Silicon Valley and served as the lead of Startup Grind – connecting entrepreneurs; AngelHack – supporting developers and designers; founded Launch Campus – investing in early-stage student startups in Hong Kong. He has been an innovation consultant at United Nations Development Programme and several multinational corporations, worked for tech startups such as WeWork, W Hub and Brinc. This lean startup master is specializing in human-centered design, rapid prototyping, go-to-market strategy, and anything to make your pitch standout at Startup Weekend. Andrew Chen
Managing Partner at Arion Ventures

Andrew H. Chen is Managing Partner of Arion Ventures. Arion Ventures is a strategic advisory firm that provides various management consulting services including private placements and strategy consulting. He also currently lectures a graduate course on emerging technology and entrepreneurship part-time at the Multimedia Innovation Centre in the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also a member of the board of advisors of Ampd Energy, a venture backed energy storage company based in Hong Kong. Prior, Andrew was the Founder and CEO of Menuscript, a cloud based omnichannel digital menu platform that also functioned as a mobile/desktop website and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software for restaurants. Previously he also worked as a corporate consultant for 4 years, where he worked with a wide range of organisations to solve strategic issues. Through his engagements he has worked with early stage ventures, Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, non-profit organisations, and social enterprises. Prior to this Andrew has also founded numerous other entrepreneurial ventures. Andrew grew up in Toronto, Canada, is a graduate of University of Toronto where he graduated with high distinction and currently has resided in Hong Kong for 12 years. In his spare time he volunteers within various causes focused on education and social services and mentors recent graduates and current students.

Felix Wong
Community Manager, Greater China at Techstars

Felix is a young entrepreneur, community builder and growth hacker in Hong Kong, Greater China and Asia Pacific. He is the Community Manager of Greater China at Techstars, a worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed. Since 2015, he has facilitated over 50 Techstars Startup Programs regionally, including Startup Weekend, Startup Week, corporate innovation program and regional summit.

He started his career at Ricoh as a Data Scientist working with many multi-national companies in data strategy and digital transformation. As part of his startup passion, he co-founded and led 3 fast growing startups prior to joining Techstars. He co-founded Cloudbreakr aiming to bridge the gap between influencer marketing, data analytics, social media and advertising agencies. He also held position leading growth strategy at The Wave’s integrated startup platform in terms of growth marketing, user acquisition strategy and for-purpose event management. After that, he joined Abtitu as the Director of Growth leading product strategy, UI/ UX design and technical project implementation.

Felix graduated from The University of Bath in Mathematical Science and received a master degree in Marketing from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

He is deeply involved in helping both young founders and the startup community thrives. He always put forward new ideas if only more time to implement them. In his spare time he loves playing football, cooking pasta and transform his imaginations into reality by Lego.

Director of Alitheia Advisors Limited

Eric is a startup experienced technologist currently working on a couple of startup projects and contributing toward Hong Kong's startup ecosystem as organizer, mentor and coach for Startup Weekend events. With a background in IT consulting, he has worked with clients in providing advice, facilitating change, and delivering technology for top-tier banks and multinationals in New York, London and Hong Kong. He has built and grown an IT consulting firm and a financial services outfit from being startups to revenue-generating organizations, and co-founded an education/learning product startup helping youngsters in Hong Kong preparing for their DSE exams. Eric graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
