Ignite the Future of Travel

The Startup Weekend CityU Edition - Ignite the Future of Travel. The Next Travel Startup Unicorn is just around the corner!! Hong Kong-based Klook has recently raised US$200 million. Are you ready to be the next travel startup ‘Unicorn’?

Travel is an education. Are you familiar with the saying, “The world is a book; those who do not travel read only a page”? Today most people travel as part of their daily routine. Not only does travel make us a happier person, it also opens our eyes and mind. More so, tourism industry is the pillar of the economy in some of the fastest growing countries where the industry always bring economic benefit to the citizens and improving their living standard. It has gradually become a main topic for city-lives and many innovative ideas are inspired by the demands generated from travelling, like Airbnb, Ctrip and Coachsurfing. While considering a new reform on travel safety, customized experience and green travel, the topic of travelling will certainly lead to many unprecedented possibilities.

We'll equip the participants with tools through our workshops to rethink how empathy, design, and technology together can ignite the future of travel, and help them build to their startup with valuable feedbacks by experienced mentors and judges.

Startup Weekend, powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, is non-profit entrepreneurship education event that brings together innovators, marketers, developers and designers. It is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend. In just 54 hours, you will meet a dream startup team, do market research, build product, and demonstrate your business in front of judges and potential investors.

Kristie Leung
General Manager of Human Resources at Li & Fung Limited

A Human Resources professional who sees herself as a business person who specializes in Human Capital Management. Leveraging previous work experiences from industries across Big Four professional firms, bank, supply chain, manufactures, government body and charity organization to drive business results and changes. Brought up and educated in Hong Kong.


Coaches and Mentors


Kenneth Shek
Senior Manager, Strategic Development and Business Operations, Beta Labs

Manager of Commercial Development and Strategy focusing on strategy across Marketing, Business Development, and Content & Curators, as well as development and growth of MyMM's strategic cross-border and O2O businesses. 

Before his current role, Kenneth was in the CEO Office working directly with both Co-CEOs on Strategic Development of the company, including but not limited to driving synergies across all functions, assessing the business as a whole, such as budget planning.

He was also a Management Consultant at Deloitte Digital (Consulting) specialising on digital strategy, BPR, and system implementation. Kenneth was nominated and selected by the company for Deloitte's Green Dot Award for "Talent" in July 2015 as a firm-wide recognition of his performance.


Brad Emery
Founder and CEO, The Aimviva Travel Club

Prior to working for himself, Brad was responsible for setting up the Partner infrastructure for AIA’s wellness program (Vitality) across 7 markets in Asia. Before that Brad was Interim CEO for MetLife HK, built an Asia-wide Telemarketing business for Prudential, helped develop a cloud based Admin system for Munich Re and ran Bancassurance operations in Vietnam, Taiwan and Mainland China. Brad has extensive experience with start-ups and turnarounds including an online bank, and app development as well as writing and delivering on a 100 day plan for a turnaround of a failed Bancassurance relationship in Taiwan.

Maggie Phan
Account Servicing & Project Management, NDN Group

Technology, Business and Experience Design is at her core. Working at a local leading digital marketing and digital transformation firm, she connects with global clients to develop innovative initiatives meeting their business goals while putting a strong focus on customer experience. She is well versed in digital marketing, project management, client relationship building and has worked with clients ranging from food, travel and entertainment to luxury brands, hotel, banking and finance sector. Investor, Launch Campus - incubating student startup heroes to change the world

After winning Startup Weekend in 10 countries, Keith came back from Silicon Valley and served as the lead of Startup Grind – connecting entrepreneurs; AngelHack – supporting developers and designers; founded Launch Campus – investing in early-stage student startups in Hong Kong. He has been an innovation consultant at United Nations Development Programme and several multinational corporations, worked for tech startups such as WeWork, W Hub and Brinc. This lean startup master is specializing in human-centered design, rapid prototyping, go-to-market strategy, and anything to make your pitch standout at Startup Weekend. Felix Wong
Community Manager, Greater China at Techstars

Felix is a young entrepreneur, community builder and growth hacker in Hong Kong, Greater China and Asia Pacific. He is the Community Manager of Greater China at Techstars, a worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed. Since 2015, he has facilitated over 50 Techstars Startup Programs regionally, including Startup Weekend, Startup Week, corporate innovation program and regional summit.

He started his career at Ricoh as a Data Scientist working with many multi-national companies in data strategy and digital transformation. As part of his startup passion, he co-founded and led 3 fast growing startups prior to joining Techstars. He co-founded Cloudbreakr aiming to bridge the gap between influencer marketing, data analytics, social media and advertising agencies. He also held position leading growth strategy at The Wave’s integrated startup platform in terms of growth marketing, user acquisition strategy and for-purpose event management. After that, he joined Abtitu as the Director of Growth leading product strategy, UI/ UX design and technical project implementation.

Felix graduated from The University of Bath in Mathematical Science and received a master degree in Marketing from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

He is deeply involved in helping both young founders and the startup community thrives. He always put forward new ideas if only more time to implement them. In his spare time he loves playing football, cooking pasta and transform his imaginations into reality by Lego.
