Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Speakers


Ahmed Hamad
President of the British University in Egypt

Currently the President of the British University in Egypt - BUE (since July 2014). He is an emeritus Professor at Ain Shams University, Computer Systems Department. Professor Hamad held the following posts: 

Head of Avionics Department - MTC (1992-1996); Full Professor of Computer Systems at Ain Shams University (since 1996); Vice Dean for Postgraduate, Education and Student Affairs, then Environmental Affairs (Ain-Shams 1998-2004); Dean of Faculty of Information and Computer Science (6 Informatics and Computer Science Faculty and Professor of Computer Networks (BUE 2008-June 2014). 
His fields of experience are in Avionics Systems, Digital Electronics, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Computer Graphics, Visual Information Systems, Multimedia and Digital Signal processing. He has published more than 60 papers in international and local conferences, journals and proceedings in different fields of information technology. Professor Hamad is the Vice President of the Egyptian Software Engineering Association (ESEA), an IEEE member since (1988) and ACM member since (2005).


Saad Kiyani
Head of Digital Strategy & Telenor Velocity

Saad has more than 12 years of experience within telecoms and management consulting. In his previous role as Director Operational Excellence at Telenor Group, he led projects across European and Asian operations covering IT, networks, distribution, marketing and service channels digitization. He was also part of the Telenor Global Transformation core team. Before Telenor, Saad was Senior Associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers Norway, where he delivered projects for major international and Nordic clients in the financial services industry as well as the public sector. Interestingly, in his previous life as an engineer, he was part of startups in Pakistan, working on rapid prototyping of communication hardware. In addition, he has developed intellectual property for Samsung South Korea and was part of Huawei Technologies at its infancy in Pakistan.Saad obtained his PhD from the French Grande Ecole, Telecom ParisTech and his publications on beyond 4G communication networks have been cited more than 1000 times!He is currently the Head of Digital Strategy at Telenor Pakistan and also leads the startup accelerator, Telenor Velocity.



Omar Mandour
Regional General Manager at Coca-Cola

Throughout his 25 years of experience in the North African region and the Gulf area, Omar has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in the field of marketing, operations and general management in the fast moving consumer goods field. During his tenure at Coca-Cola, he has increased investment, launched new products and completely revamped the marketing strategies resulting in significant volume growth for The Coca-Cola Company’s brands. Omar holds a B.A. in Political Science and as post graduate Marketing Diploma from the American University in Cairo.


Fadi Antaki
CEO of A15

Fadi Antaki – CEO of A15; an entrepreneurial company that creates digital products and technology brands.He is currently responsible for- as part of A15 investment umbrella - a unique mix of portfolio companies at different growth stages. Under his leadership there are 4 leading growth companies in the region as Connect ads the number 1 digital agency in the middle east,  6 innovative ventures disrupting their industries as T-Pay the biggest Mobile Carrier Billing solution in the region and he succeeded in conducting 5 exists crowned by Otlob exist to Rocket Internet in 2014.
 
Fadi believes in building “Real Products for Real People” by making sure it is not just about hype but about clear evidenced traction of companies with solid business models. The CEO of A15 has more than 15 years’ of experience in the digital industry coupled with entrepreneurial expertise.
 
He has extensive knowledge in the mobile Value added services (VAS). Fadi was leading ARPU+ for 4 years. He is overseeing the business of 16 regional offices of A15; serving online and mobile solutions partnering with major international players (Microsoft, Twitter, MSNArabia, LINKedin and Shazam). Fadi has been leading and launching new innovations in the start-up era. He has established  strong ecosystem within A15 for intrapreneurs  and local entrepreneurs to launch their innovations.


Ayman El Tarabishy
Executive Director for the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) and Professor at the George Washington University

Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy is currently an Associate Professor of Management at the George Washington University's School of Business. He was awarded the George Washington University School of Business best teaching faculty through student voting for the past five years (2010 to 2015) in various programs. He is also an award winning author of his most recent book on Small and Medium Enterprises and Information Technology. Dr. Tarabishy is the only faculty in the GW School of Business that teaches in two nationally ranked programs (the GW Healthcare MBA program and Entrepreneurship program). Dr. Tarabishy developed new MBA courses like Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation & Creativity. He is the Program Director for the Healthcare MBA.   Dr. El Tarabishy since 2007 is the Executive Director of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), the oldest and largest non-profit organization across the globe devoted to advancing small business research and practices. ICSB is a coalition of more than a dozen national organizations across the globe and represented in over eighty countries.   Dr. El Tarabishy created and managed since 2010 the Global Entrepreneurship Research and Policy Conference (GWOctober.org) that is hosted at the George Washington University. The GW October conference connects the latest and most cutting edge of entrepreneurship research to the most pressing and important national and international policy to promote entrepreneurship and SMEs. The intersection of these two important topics makes the conference vital for global development.   Dr. El Tarabishy previous work experience included the World Bank in the Corporate Strategy Group. He developed the technology strategy for the Development Marketplace Program. The program's mission was to identify and support social enterprises. To date, the Global Development Marketplace competition has disbursed over US $115 million in awards to 800 winning proposals. 

Dr. El Tarabishv assisted the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to develop new and more effective methods for doing business in Egypt. His program of promoting social development and business was adopted by the largest US delegation mission to Egypt in September of 2012. The Chamber delegation comprised of more than forty-seven companies represented by more than ninety senior leaders of the U.S. private sector. During the mission Dr. El Tarabishy assisted in a critical phase of Egypt’s transition, working with U.S. businesses to process the nature and scope of recent developments, an understanding of the new government’s economic and policy priorities, and demonstrate the continued commitment of the American business community to Egypt’s economic recovery and long-term development.   Dr. El Tarabishy currently published his new award winning book titled – Information Technology for Small Business – Managing the Digital Enterprise by Springer publishing company. The book covers digital innovation and use of social media for small and medium businesses. He presented his work at national and international conferences around the world.   Dr. El Tarabihy current research is on Lean Startups and Design Thinking for SME development in pursuit of solving social problems.   Dr. El Tarabishy consults and conducts executive training for several national and international organizations, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).

Rasha Tantawy
Entrepreneurship & Business Support Department Head, TIEC

Rasha is the head of entrepreneurship at TIEC, ITIDA. Rasha has built extensive networks and assets in the global entrepreneurial marketplace. An entrepreneur herself with multiple failures and currently on board her company AGTA packaging, Rasha loves to help other entrepreneurs reach for the stars. Rasha spent much time in government developing the Entrepreneurship department at TIEC managing the Accelerator program, Mobile Monday, Business support amongst other support programs offered to startups, SMEs and entrepreneurs in ICT plus  being part of the team that compiled the ICT2020 strategy for Egypt.   Rasha has worked with and consulted with various European commission projects as part of FP7 and H2020. Rasha participates in local and international conferences as a speaker and in various leading universities on entrepreneurship, developing entrepreneurial environments, business modeling, and role of government. She worked closely with international entities like the EIB, ALECSA, ANIMA and the CMI on entrepreneurship and innovation projects for the MENA and EuroMED region. Her consultancy work includes developing the MENA innovation index , developing KPIs for Technology Parks and developing an innovation diagnostic tool for SMEs in these regions. Rasha mentors entrepreneurs regularly with a special focus on women and youth. Rasha is part of the EuroMED business Women network which serves women of the Mediterranean region. Rasha holds a Masters in Civil Engineering from Alexandria University, a Masters in Management of Technology from Nile University. She is also finalizing her Doctorate in the area of Entrepreneurship in developing countries at the University of Switzerland.

Magued Mahmoud
Vice President and General Manager for EMC Egypt Center of Excellence

Magued Mahmoud is Vice President and General Manager, Egypt Center of Excellence (COE) at EMC Corporation, and joined EMC to establish the center since 2009.  With 2015 revenues of $24.7 billion and more than 70,000 employees, EMC is a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service. Fundamental to this transformation is Cloud Computing. Through innovative products and services, EMC accelerates the journey to Cloud Computing, helping IT departments to store, manage, protect and analyze their most valuable asset — information — in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way   Mr. Mahmoud is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Center of Excellence in Egypt. His responsibilities include creating a world class services organization with EMC culture and values, positioning the Egypt COE within EMC and selling its services/capabilities to enable its growth, in addition to building, leading and managing 900+ FTE organizations.    Magued has more than 28 years of experience in the IT sector. He previously served as the head of Oracle’s Solution Services International Consulting Center, where he was responsible for the delivery of consulting services to global customers. As part of his services delivery responsibility, he was a member of steering committees for many large and strategic IT projects in the Middle East and Africa region.   Before his 11 year-stint at Oracle Corporation, Magued was with IBM for ten years where he held various IT roles catering to the Middle East markets. Over the course of his career, Magued has developed expertise in sales, support and consulting services, delivering business IT solutions in various verticals such as manufacturing, telecom, energy, public sector and financial services.   Magued earned a degree in engineering studies from Ain Shams University in Cairo and a diploma in ‘Managing IT Software and Services Strategically’ from the Scandinavian International Management Institute in Copenhagen.


Shereen Allam
Founder and President AWTAD

Born in Alexandria, Egypt and studied business administration in the American University in Cairo and graduated with highest honors. Worked in the corporate world for five years in various positions and resigned her last post in the United Nations to start her own company.  

Baby Boom a design, manufacture and distribution company of baby’s clothes was born in 1990.  It was born in a garage with three machines and 2 workers and when sold in 2001 it had 150 machines, 200 workers, 250 retail shops and one private store.  

One week after selling this company she established with her husband a printer cartridge recycling company to support the environmental movement and to make sure that garbage is reduced and reused in her country.   This was a new topic with many challenges and she took them on and managed to convince within two year 250 national and multinational organizations to collaborate with Ecotek to recycle their cartridges.  Within the next five years she added to their company line of products around three international brands in the field of computer accessories and virtual computing.

In 2008 believing in the power of the people in Egypt she established an NGO, AWTAD, and moved on to improve the environment supporting the economic empowerment of women and youth.  Today AWTAD is supporting young start up entrepreneurs, women in their quest for economic freedom, artisans in their fight to break the glass ceiling they live under and youth in finding their path.

In 2013 she established a new company called JEZOOR to work with young entrepreneurs to stand tall during the first three years of their incorporation to ensure that the survival rate of startups is on the rise.  It also offers simulations and trainings on behavioral change and breaking stereotyping in Egypt and managing teams.

She is a business woman, mentor, consultant, designer and dreamer of making things happen for others as much as for herself.

Ahmed Dahe
Incubation Senior Specialist, TIEC

Ahmed Mohamed M. Dahe is Incubation Senior Specialist in TIEC and he is the director of TIEC programs in Assiut. He is working in assisting and mentoring and evaluating (TIEC) incubated companies Besides that, He holds MBA degree, He is also a certified entrepreneurship trainer from national and international institutions, Ahmed participated in several international projects aimed to support entrepreneurship and start up formation in Washington DC, USA , Freie university of Berlin, Germany and Politechnico Di Torino University, Italy. This is beside his work in projects funded by TEMPUS program by the European commission. He is participating as a trainer and mentor in several initiatives that focus in entrepreneurship support, in the past 5 years he trained and mentored over 400 teams on how to turn their ideas into business and also how to protect their ideas. He is interested in supporting Technology Transfer that links research, businesses, and the community together by bridging the technological innovation gap. That is beside his interest in Nano-Technology, as he prepared his master degree in Nano-Science.


Osama El Haggar
Senior Entrepreneurship Support Specialist, TIEC

Osama EL HAGGAR is Senior Entrepreneurship Specialist in TIEC. Has being working as Business Development Manager in International companies supporting R&D with focus on embedded systems design and electronic components for the last 10+ years. He is working on EU Funded projects under FP7 and Horizon 2020 Programs to support researchers and SMEs get funded from EU. Entrepreneurship & innovation takes too much of his time coaching and supporting Hi-Tech Startups to grow fast and facilitate their exposure to investors and inject more innovation to their products.
Osama Has being working for Multinational companies, he has cooperated with global teams in different location around the world throughout his different projects.
He is also interested in renewable energy and its utilization in rural areas and energy reduction systems for buildings which will reduce energy consumption.


Ahmed Bolica
Founder and CEO, Pimula

Ahmed Abdullah, aka, Ahmed Bolica is the founder and CEO of Pimula Agency. Ahmed, a graduate from Faculty of Commerce with an Accounting concentration, didn't find his passion in corporate life. An artist turning entrepreneur, Ahmed started his first steps in the Web Design career through self­studying. He worked as a Senior UI Developer / UX Designer for four years. During that time, Ahmed successfully grew his own startup Bolica Web Design.

Ahmed’s business background helped him understand both the end­users' and the market's needs. Thus, he was mainly concerned with supporting startups and entrepreneurs through developing a variety of services and mentorships like in Startup Weekend Egypt and Startup MENA.

Moreover, Bolica started using his creativity and experience in the career of web design because he believes that the design itself is not a goal but a means for building effective long­lasting brands, converting leads, and more.

Ahmed is interested in learning about new technologies and loves to share knowledge through his blog. He also co­founded Alexandria Web Designer community, which aims to provide help to new generations of talented designers. Additionally, Ahmed contributes to the community by giving lectures and workshops for beginners in the web design career.


Ahmed Wasfie
CEO, AWstreams

Ahmed Wasfie is a serial entrepreneur, and is currently the CEO of AWstreams. He founded a couple of successful businesses; such as, Backpack-app.com, Ozbotha.com, Dealsping.com, BBES Network, Hamza B&L, GreenHights, DI.LTD, and patented three inventions worldwide.

Wasfie has a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and was awarded Best Inventor of the Year  by "Injaz" in 2010 and Top Ten Inventors by "Stars of Science" in 2008.


Khaled Mokhtar
Program Management Senior Supervisor, Etisalat Misr

Khaled is a Computer and Systems Engineer working in the Technical Project Management Office (PMO) as a Program Management Senior Supervisor in Etisalat Misr Mobile Operator. He is also part of the Global IEEE Network having many executive positions there.Certified from the University of California - Berkeley - USA for Mentoring Innovative Technology Startups. Khaled was also Mentor for multiple events in the Region which bridging the Industry and Academia together in order to “Advance Innovation and Technology for Humanity”. Moreover was Keynote Speaker, Speaker and Trainer in events in Egypt, Germany, Spain and Jordan.Khaled is currently a Professional Speaker in the IEEE Region 8 (Europe, Middle East and Africa), was also Board Member & Chairman for the Egyptian Engineering Day, Vice Chairman for the IEEE GOLD Egyptian Affinity Group.



Shaimaa Gaafar
MENA Business Solutions Manager, PepsiCo

When you realize your own dream, the only person who benefits from it is you. However, when you support others in pursuing their passions, you create a ripple effect for impact. Shaymaa’s Passion is to support tech young entrepreneurs to realize their potential and achieve their dreams. Shaymaa continuously works with multiple NGOs that provides support to tech entrepreneurs in their early stages of startup development.Shaymaa is graduated from Computer Sciences – Ain Shams University and she has 12 years of working experience in technology field in multinationals such as IBM and PepsiCo. Shaymaa now is the Commercial Solutions Manager for MENA region in PepsiCo, she is in charge of the delivery agenda for the Go-To-Market technology innovations in the region.


Alaa Ali
Senior Software Engineer, ITWorx

8 years of experience in web development under different technology stacks, currently I am part of a team building distributed software on various platforms for the educational sector for MENA region and the world in ITWorx Education. prior that, I was part of a fast growing startup called Kijamii acting as the leader for all technology division in the agency building high-end social media apps/campaigns serving country-wide users in for corporaties like Mobinil, Philips and UN. 


Mahmoud Nassar
Management Consultant

Hadia Abdel Aziz
Associate professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management

Dr. Hadia Abdel Aziz is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, and the Director of the entrepreneurship program “IMAGINE” at the German University in Cairo. She enjoys diverse experience in banking, entrepreneurial finance, entrepreneurship development, and small business consultancy. She occupied various positions including corporate banking manager at American Express Bank, head of the technical office of the board of investment trustees, and Advisor to the Minister of investment on Entrepreneurship and Innovation.


Amr Essam
Product Development Senior Manager at TE Data

With expertise in the Telecommunication field. In the past 15 Years he has worked within the Telecom industry exploring the technical and business fields, pursuing creativity and innovation is the passion of Amr's, and it’s the common thread that runs through the rich woven path of his career. Amr is an Idea Architect, skilled at creating innovative and successful ideas, to be translated into a business. His energy is rivaled only by his work. 
Devoted to developing ideas as well as technology, Amr's passion toward self-help and development gives him the power in seeing things differently, Although focused in the information technology industry, Amr has the insane passion towards the marketing field in all of its directions, with an eye that follows world trends, new inventions and techniques, worked in sales and marketing and speaks professionally on a variety of technology topics. 
Amr has a degree in Computer Science, with a multiple diplomas in the business areas and telecommunication, a savvy reader, insane passion towards what’s new in all fields.


Mai ElZeiny
Account Manger at Nahdet El Mahrosa

Maie received her B.S. in Computer Science from Ain-Shams University in 2006 with over 7 years of cumulative experience in entrepreneurship and innovation programs implementation, design and management. She supported various social entrepreneurial ventures kick-start from idea phase through her work at Nahdet El Mahrosa (NM)’s early-stage social enterprises incubator.  She currently works as an Account Manager with a special focus on social enterprises, in the fields of environment, energy, and technology. 


Ossama Suleiman
Head of Enterprise Marketing at TE Data

Ossama Suleiman is the head of enterprise marketing at TE Data , the leading Internet service provider of Egypt. He's a professional with 15+ years’ of experience in different roles, with a solid technical foundation, 
Ossama had always been passionate about marketing and customer needs,  he joined the product development team before moving into digital and B2B marketing where he is driving innovation, expanding the portfolio  of services provided, helping in positioning TE Data not only as a connectivity provider, but as a partner for success of enterprises, being their managed services provider.
He launched many new services as well as new business lines such as cloud and security services, among  other initiatives 

He holds a B.E. from Ain Shams University and a MBA from Maastricht University.


Fady Nabil
Program Manager at Etisalat

Fady presents more than 15 years of experience in Telecom and IT Industry. He is working at Etisalat Misr and worked for EMAK, UNDP, and British Telecom. He acted as a Team Leader for Middle East and Africa group in PDPM (Post Disaster Project Management), one of PMI‘s voluntary programs. He served as Head of Public Relation committee for PMI MENA chapter in Egypt on 2011.He continues his voluntary work for PMI MENA Chapter. Fady was a part of Startup weekend Mansoura Team. He was mentoring in Giza SW, Cairo Startup Cup, Orange Startup Cup and AUC V labs.. Fady is PMP, Executive Coaching and PMI- RMP certified. He has also supported his hands-on experience, management sense and intuition with an MBA, from ESLSCA University in France, majoring in Global Management. Fady was one of core team that organizing Cairo Startup Cup in 2013. He also led a team in MAKCBI, NGO that develop Project Management curriculum for entrepreneurs. Currently, Fady is a certified trainer for Intel ideation camp and mentor in PWC entrepreneurship programs. Currently, Fady was a mentor in MIE9 competition with IEEE and a mentor for coaching committee in IEEE CUB.


Yahia Arafa

 Yahia Arafa is a corporate professional with a degree in Economics from Cairo University. He has 7 years of experience, of which 4 are in supply chain working with two of the largest global FMCG companies, Nestle and PepsiCo. Additionally, Yahia has two years in project management experience having worked with the UN in Egypt and Yemen. Lately, Yahia shifted to Marketing and is currently handling the commercial operations for Samsung’s TV business in Egypt. Finally, Yahia has a passion for providing career counseling & sharing his experiences with others, where he participated through Career Advancers in organizing and delivering 1000+ career advising hours over the past 5 years.


Hala Hattab
Assosicate Professor of Entrepreneurship at British University in Egypt

Dr. Hala Hattab is Assosicate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the British University in Egypt. As a Chemical Engineering graduate, she started her professional career as a business development officer in an engineering consultancy company and moved upwards until became the Business Development Manager. Later on,she obtained her Ph.D. in female entrepreneurship and added to her professional career a new academic dimension that covers research as well as teaching. 

Dr. Hattab teaches different entrepreneurship modules at the university aiming at promoting entrepreneurship among students and prepare them to be entrepreneurs themselves, including ideas generation, opportunity recognition, business planning, etc... 

She acted as the main judge in first reality TV programme for and about young entrepreneurs in Egypt in addition to different business plan competitions in addition to being a mentor for start-ups providing support and mentorship.

also conducted short term assignments with Krupp Stahlbau Hannover (Germany), other multinational corporations such as B6 (Belgium), and Dan Steel (Denmark).
Beethoven earned his MBA from the University of California San Diego. He also holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo (AUC). Now he is mainly based in Riyadh while managing the office in Dubai and Cairo.

Saif Edeen El Bendari
Startup Relations Manager at RiseUp Summit

Saif Edeen is the Startup Relations Manager at RiseUp Summit, the biggest entrepreneurship summit in MENA and North Africa that supports entrepreneurs and link them to resources they need, Saif’s responsibilities include linking entrepreneurs at different stages from around the region with resources needed for them to grow their business he also works on assessing the startups needs to insure that ecosystem enablers are satisfying those needs which leads to a healthier entrepreneurship ecosystem and a higher success rate. He also started San3ety an entrepreneurship capacity building program and competition for technical colleges in Egypt which was the first of its kind when he used to work with Injaz Egypt as Technical Colleges Program Supervisor, Saif Also worked with MC Egypt as an Agriculture Entrepreneurship Program Officer, MC Egypt a subsidiary of Mercy Corps. His responsibility included field agriculture research and identifying the main players in the agriculture in Egypt helping to enrich this agriculture ecosystem in Egypt, and the focus was the marginalized region of Upper Egypt. Along with being a full time officer at RiseUp Saif Edeen is an agriculture entrepreneur, after being graduated from Namaa School for sustainable development in 2011 he started working with different NGOs and young entrepreneurs on solving agriculture and environmental problems and eventually he started his social enterprise Barsima to support underprivileged Egyptian farmers in rural communities through a unique business model that allows them to secure decent income and be partner in the business. Saif earned his bachelor degree in Political Science from Cairo University the School of Economics and Political Science with a minor in Economics.

Moreover, he owned the growth strategy of key e-commerce platforms in Egypt as “Otlob”. Currently, Karim is leading products growth at A15 an Egyptian entrepreneurial company with a unique portfolio of startups encompassing SaaS, marketplaces and gaming businesses.


Ghada Farouk
Head, Giza Systems Education Foundation

Ghada joined Giza Systems Education Foundation in January 2013.  She has over 17 years of diversified experiences with NGOs management, human resources development, youth training and recruitment.  As a former training and recruitment manager Ghada has profound capabilities in managing and implementing training programs for under graduates. For years Ghada has been providing career counselling and advising assistance to university students and graduates. She is a guest speaker in various employment events and occasions. Samar Bahaa

Samar Bahgat graduated from Environmental Building Engineering & Sustainability (Ain Shams University).
She started finding her way into business studies at a very early age when she started her MBA in Global Marketing Management. She eventually began finding her passion in linking her Environmental engineering & sustainability studies with her MBA in marketing management. She started working at Giza Systems in 2015 as a Country Project Coordinator; fond with how the company encourages and raises awareness for Green energy; she started a parallel passionate journey of empowering youth for a better nation in clean & renewable energy. In addition to her work in Giza systems, Samar is currently the Head of University & School program for Women in Clean Energy (WICE) in Egypt which is an NGO initiative set up under the umbrella of the MENA Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC) located in UAE.

Herb Williamson
Value Chain Strategy Consultant

Mr. Williamson is a development professional with over 25 years experience in Kenya, Ghana, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq and is currently serving as the Value Chain Strategy Consultant on the USAID-funded Strengthening Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) Project in Egypt, after having recently completed an assignment as the Organization Capacity Assessment Expert on the USAID-funded Africa Lead II Project in Nairobi, Kenya. Prior to Kenya, Mr. Williamson was the SME Export Development Advisor on the USAID-funded Trade Facilitation Project (TFP); and, prior to TFP, he served as the Agri-business Development Consultant on the Pro-poor Horticultural Value Chains in Upper Egypt Project implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Mr. Williamson has served as Chief of Party (Project Director) on two business development projects funded by USAID. One was an agri-business development project providing financial and non-financial services to small farmers, small livestock holders and agricultural input suppliers in Upper Egypt. The other project was a trade facilitation activity linking Egyptian SMEs with American suppliers of agricultural technology, environmental technology, health technology, information technology and food/non-food franchises. Mr. Williamson has experience in business linkages, business environment enhancement, agricultural finance, business association development, institutional development, business training, public awareness, human resources, ICT, energy, water/wastewater and health.


Irene Boghdadi
MSMEs Development Consultant

Ms. Irene Boghdadi graduated with a degree in Creative Advertising from the American University in Dubai. She started her career as a Strategic Planner at the global advertising agency Memac Ogilvy & Mather working with a portfolio of top multinational companies. She joined Nahdet el Mahrousa (NM), an Egyptian NGO, in the fall of 2011 and for 4 years supported over 40 social enterprises in the fields of civic engagement, public health, agriculture and arts and culture in developing their enterprises. Ms. Boghdadi has been working in clean technology entrepreneurship support and sustainable energy consulting with Cleantech Arabia since 2013 and with Chemonics Egypt Consultants since 2015. She focuses most of her work on designing, developing and implementing entrepreneurship support programs in Cairo and Upper Egypt in the fields of solid waste management and renewable energy.

Communications Leader, Aramex

Ahmed Emad is a Communications Leader at Aramex. He received his B.S from Helwan University in the field of Industrial Engineering. Ahmed decided to shift his career earlier in 2008 when he started his career as a Marketing Executive in a marketing consultation agency. From this moment and he has been interested in marketing communications and event management. He has joined the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Egypt at 2011 with Entrepreneurship Magazine as a Community Manager. After attending the first Startup Weekend event in Egypt, Ahmed decided to be part of the global organization by joining SW Egypt Team. He has leaded all SW Egypt events with two lead organizers all over the past five years. Ahmed has joined Aramex International Egypt as a Senior Sustainability Officer in 2014 and now he is leading the communications. Ahmed has been interested in supporting the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Egypt even by his volunteering work with SW or his professional work with Aramex Egypt.
