Build your Smart City startup in 54 hours!

Working in teams of Entrepreneurs, Designers and Developers, you have 54 hours to launch a startup in the area of Smart City Services! 

First the entrepreneurs (and others) pitch their business ideas.

Next everyone votes for the best ideas, and teams of entrepreneurs, developers and designers come together.  

Then you work on these ideas for the rest of the weekend, building a prototype with support from expert coaches.  

Finally, on the Sunday evening the teams present their projects to the selection jury!

Executive Director, etventure School for Innovation and Digital Entrepreneurship

Birte is the Executive Director of the etventure School for Innovation and Digital Entrepreneurship. The Academy develops in-house training programs for companies in innovation and entrepreneurship based on lean-start-up- and design-thinking-principles. Until July 2014 Birte was CEO of Bucerius Executive Education at the Bucerius Law School, a company that develops and delivers executive education programs for lawyers in law firms and companies in Germany and internationally. She founded the Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession as a think tank for the legal market. Prior to that, she was the Director of the International Office at the Bucerius Law School, where she was in charge of building and expanding the law school’s international, strategic network and she headed the International Exchange Program. She began her professional career in the financial controlling department of a French automobile company. She studied Business Administration, economics and political science at the universities of Nuremberg and Cologne and wrote her doctoral thesis at the University of Hamburg.

Steffen Manes
CEO, mobile jobs

As CEO of mobile jobs and Entrepreneur in Residence at etventure, Steffen focuses on the B2B SaaS market. He has recently moved to Berlin after working for Corporate Finance Partners as Fund Manager in Frankfurt from 2010 to 2013, where he was able to work with some of Germany’s most renowned startups and growing Companies as a Venture Capitalist. He started his career with founding and building a Design and Event Agency. Afterwards he continued building and scaling a publishing house to more then 2,000 publications, including digital and audio in more than 4 languages. In his free time, Steffen also acts as a board advisor to a number of startups in the gaming, entertainment and software area. He holds a degree in Business Law and Corporate Management.

Dominic Blank
CEO, POSpulse

Dominic is Entrepreneur in Residence at etventure in Berlin for Mobile Company. Dominic spent 3 years in Chicago, USA, where he cofounded savvo in 2012, which was voted among the top Chicago Startups 2013. Prior to cofounding savvo, Dominic graduated with an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, concentrating in entrepreneurship, awarded with scholarships from both the Fulbright Commission and the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. While pursuing his MBA, Dominic cofounded a medical device company and worked as business development manager at a healthcare IT startup. Dominic started his career at Siemens AG, where he went through a dual study program with heavy focus on sales, followed by working in their IT / Telecommunications division as an Account Manger for medium to large sized businesses.

Thomas Winkler
Project and Product Manager

Thomas is project and product manager at Fraunhofer IAIS with a strong technical background in electrical engineering and computer science. At the end of 2005, he received his diploma degree in Electrical Engineering in the area of communication technologies from the RWTH Aachen University, Germany. In 2006 he joined Fraunhofer IAIS in Sankt Augustin, Germany. He began working in research and development of algorithms for multimedia pattern recognition and in particular automatic speech recognition and received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 2013.Since 2012 his focus has moved from applied research and development towards analyzing market demand and developing business applications based on Fraunhofer IAIS technologies. He is familiar with technical issues as well as potential benefits and market opportunities connected with FI-WARE and FI-CONTENT technologies and applications for Social connected TV, especially for Fraunhofer IAIS’ specific enablers Audio Mining SE, Audio Fingerprinting SE and Content Optimization SE.
