Speakers


Jeremy Caplan
Director of Education, Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. Keynote Speaker via Skype

Jeremy Caplan is Director of Education for the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. He has worked with more than 100 entrepreneurial journalists from 35 countries over the past eight years, helping many to develop viable ventures. 

Prior to teaching, he wrote about business and technology at Time Magazine and wrote about companies like GoogleApple and Yahoo. He also wrote about cultural trends, ranging from carrot-mobs and cereal cafes to mini-lit and life-hacking. He was a Wiegers Fellow at the Columbia Business School, where he completed his MBA, and a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at the Columbia Journalism School, where he earned an M.S. in Journalism. He lives in New York City with his wife and two daughters.

Journalist and entrepreneur. Co-founder of Cuonda and Tablet Army

Journalist and entrepreneur, she’s co-founder of two start-ups, Cuonda and Tablet
Army, a start-up focus on mobile content, and Cuonda a podcast platform for the
hispanic community, an initiative that has received Google recognition throught DNI
fund.
She’s also partner at Prodigioso Volcan, a digital agency focus on communication
strategies where she leads Digital Transformation projects for clients such as El País,
Diario de Cuba o El Universal (México).
She teaches Entrepreneurial journalism in San Pablo CEU University (Madrid) and also
lead Hacks & Hackers Spanish chapter in Madrid
Ana is graduate in journalism, visiting scholar at Science Technolgy and Society
program at Stanford University, and Tow-Knight fellow at CUYNY (New York)



Eric Hansen
CEO of Antenna Music

Eric Hansen was appointed as a CEO of Antenna Music in April 2012. Prior to this Mr. Hansen worked at ProsiebenSat. 1 Media AG and SBS Broadcasting as a Senior Vice President for almost a decade responsible for Radio stations and Music TV stations in 7 countries including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. He started his professional career at Berlingske Tidende, major national daily in Denmark. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Copenhagen Business School.


Simone Demelas
CEO of ARMNet.co

Sardinian, currently based in Rome. Degree in Natural Sciences, GIS and Satellite Remote Sensing expert, after working as an analyst in the GIS field decides to begin to understand how to do business and was thrown in the startup universe. It all started in 2013 with the participation at Startup Weekend Cagliari, from there it was swallowed into the black hole, participating in a lot of startups weekend, working on his own projects. He is currently CEO of ARMNet, a company that deals with integrating augmented reality to the management of infrastructure networks. Passionate about technology in every aspect, music, fitness, new trends. There is always a different way to see things and solve problems


Daniel Klinger
Technical Manager at A.G. RADIO HOLDING

Daniel Klinger is Technical Director of AG RADIO HOLDING, a leading Romanian company in media, operating 3 radio networks and 3 TV musical stations. He is one of the pioneers in radio in Romania, in January 1990 he was in the group of students that founded UNIFUN radio, the first independent radio station in post revolution Romania. He later founded a media company and drove it as General Manager to one of the first Radio Network in Romania – UNIPLUS Radio, until 2004 when the company was sold to SBS Pan-European media group.   All this time he was also involved in the development of the media environment in Romania: in the born of the Audio Visual Law in 1992 or in foundation of the first professional Association of TV and Radio stations – known as ARCA. He later was elected as the President of this association, and served during 1996 to 2000.   Daniel Klinger was one of the founders of the first independent Radio in Republic of Moldova – Radio Unda Libera in 1991. He also worked for SOROS Foundation for an Open Society in Media Programs during 1991-1993 and later (1996-1998) was member of the Media Board. He was a trustee for the Journalism School of BBC – Romania.   Klinger has a M.Sc. in Electronics at University Politehnica of Bucharest, a M.A. in Light Design in Theater at the National University of Theater and Film “I.L.Caragiale and he is preparing his Ph.D. Thesis in Applied Theatrical Studies at the same National University of Theater and Film “I.L.Caragiale”.


Nikos Bakounakis

Nikos Bakounakis is a professor of Practice of Journalism and Storytelling Techniques at
Panteion University (Athens, Greece), Department of Communication, Media and Culture and
the literary editor and a long-standing contributor to To Vima newspaper of Athens. Phd in
History and Civilizations from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris,
France. His work includes many books on Greek history, primarily concerning the
development of the bourgeoisie, its mentality and its cultural behavior and the reception of
artistic phenomena, ideas and journalism. He has published widely in Greece and abroad on
cultural, journalism and press topics. His most recent book is “Journalist or Reporter: The
Human Interest Story in the Greek Newspapers, 19th-20th century” (Fall 2014, National
Book Award, Athens Academy Ouranis Prize for essay). He is at work on a book about the
American author and journalist Stephen Crane at the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 and why
this war is considering as the first war-media event.




Dimitris Xenakis
Founder and publisher of insidestory

Dr. Dimitris Xenakis has been involved with online media since 1994, in management, strategy and vision formation and in the development of digital applications and services. He has contributed to the development of services in some of the largest media organizations in Greece. He is founder and publisher of insidestory.gr, a unique for Greece subscription-only / advertisement-free news-site producing long-form articles. Prior to that he was at 24Media digital publishing group heading R&D, has served as head of Digital at SKAI, as deputy director of the New Technologies Sector at Lambrakis Press S.A. and as Area Leader at Intracom S.A.. Dimitris holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Imperial College, London and has worked as a physics researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik in Munich, the Foundation for Research and Technology in Crete and Imperial College of Science & Technology in London.

Eric Parks
Partner at Velocity Partners VC

Eric Parks is a General Partner at Velocity Partners, an Athens based VC fund focusing on pre-seed and seed investments. Eric is a Geek. He got his first computer, a ZX Spectrum 48, at age 7 and believes that the whole tech scene went downhill after that. As a Half-American half-Greek Geek (see what we did there?)  he's joyfully embraced and unleashed his inner geekness upon both the tech startup and advertising industries over the last 14 years. Well-armed in studies in Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Law degree - because oops, wrong degrees - he's been equally involved with the startup community as well as the advertising industry. He's co-founded a couple of startups, is an advisor, investor and member of the board at a number of others, is active in the startup mentor scene and has headed the digital departments of Leo Burnett Athens, Omnicom as well as The Newtons Laboratory. He's -weirdly- won several awards and been Head of the Digital Awards Committee at the Greek Advertising Association's Hermes awards. Passions include Gamification (before it was a buzzword), the convergence of digital and physical, storytelling, the deeper philosophical underpinnings of the morality in digital endeavors and Pizza. Especially Pizza. Finally, he still doesn't know what he'll be when he grows up but is working on it.


Nikos Kakavoulis
Internet entrepreneur and media executive

Nikos Kakavoulis is an internet entrepreneur and media executive. He's currently the Digital Strategy Director of Antenna's Amplifier, the investment unit of the leading media company in SE Europe. Prior to that, he founded Daily Secret, a global, hyperlocal daily email newsletter that he grew from concept to 600K+ subscribers and raised $4m+ in venture funding. Nikos started his career at Liberis Publications, where he eventually become the Head of Digital, responsible for the online presence of a portfolio of premium media brands including Men’s Health and Vogue. Nikos holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and an MD from Athens Medical School.

Loukas Petrounias
Director of Loyalty & Customer Experience in Piraeus Bank

Loukas Petrounias is Director of Loyalty & Customer Experience in Piraeus Bank, the leading financial institution in Greece.
He’s is an constant quest of ruining his karma by moving from journalism to advertising and then to the banking industry. Still haven’t found what he’s looking for…
He started his career as a music radio producer and then became a reporter in a leading newspaper & National Television.
Since 1997 & for almost two decades he joined the advertising industry and explored how human insights can create value for over 50 local & international companies. He worked for
JWT Athens & Solid Communications where he ended his advertising career as Executive
Director of the group.
He was honored to be a Lecturer from 2012-2015 in Panteion University, AD & PR Lab, teaching Communication Strategy with an emphasis on Storytelling & Digital Marketing.
For the last 3 years he’s focusing on strategy & initiatives that can create great (emotionally positive) customer experiences which will increase customers footing and inspire loyalty to the organization (Piraeus Bank).
Loukas is graduate in Communication & Media at Panteion University.
He’s married and blessed with a lovely son.



Mikes Billis
Music composer and sound designer. Production director of Oxyzed

Mikes Billis is a music composer and sound designer. He has been in the music industry
since 1998 as an artist and music producer collaborating with big record companies like
Warner, Sony and Universal.
In 2002, following his tendency for sound design and film scoring, he started working at
Oxyzed Sound & Music and in 2009 he became the company’s production director and
general manager.
All these years, Mikes is mostly composing music for commercials, documentaries and
cinema and he has won a lot of awards including best original score and sound design.
Turning his love for music, partially into a profession, opened the door for Mikes’ new
passion, scuba diving, where in contradiction to sound and music, the only sound
underwater is the sound of his breath.

Vasileios Tziokas
Marketing & strategy professional for Microsoft

Vassilis Tziokas is a marketing & strategy professional, currently working for Microsoft leading its Digital Transformation marketing strategy for Central East Europe.  Before joining Microsoft, Vassilis held marketing roles in various countries driving brand and commercial strategies in the technology sector (Upstream, Persado) and the FMCG industry (Mondelez) being featured in top publications like AdWeek and MediaPost. Vassilis holds a Master’s Degree in Creative Enterprises Management from the University of Warwick, an MBA from the Athens University of Economics & Business (AUEB) and an Executive Education Diploma in Big Data in Business from IE Business School, Madrid. He is a passionate follower of digital transformation trends and behavioral economics and in 2014 he founded The Phygital, one of the first thematic portals to explore the merge of physical and digital worlds. In his free time, he aspires to be an Ironman triathlete.

After she completed her undergraduate degree in Media & Communications at Panteion University of Social & Political Sciences, she moved on to an MSc in Media & Communications, with a focus on New Media Technologies, at the London School of Economics. A media lover with over 10 years of experience, she has worked for ΕΡΤ, ΝΕΤ, EXTRA, ALTER, AOB, MTV international, ANT1TV, NETWIX, producing print, TV, radio and new media content. Experienced in project management, content management, social media management, digital marketing and branded video content, she is now the Online Marketing & Social Media Section Manager for Cosmote.


Magy Kontou
Co-founder & Head of Operations, SimpleApps

Magy Kontou is the Co-founder & Head of Operations at SimpleApps.gr, an award-winning
mobile and digital marketing agency, partnered with the most recognized brands in Greece.
The company’s services have been distinguished in more than 9 innovation and young
entrepreneurship contests globally. During her postgraduate studies she co-founded
SimpleApps. Combining her love for UI/UX design and her passion for mobile technologies,
today she oversees all the creative output of the company across different digital channels.
She is also part of the Tech Talent team and co-organizer at GDG Athens (Google
Developers Group Athens) and WTM Greece by Google (Women TechMakers Greece)
communities. She is a graduate of Computer Science Department and holds an MSc in
Mobile Computing from University of Hertfordshire (UH), UK.


Dimitra Iordanoglou
Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication, Media and Culture, Panteion University

Dimitra Iordanoglou is an Assistant Professor of Organization and Human Resource
Management at Panteion University, Department of Communication, Media and
Culture. She teaches in the Postgraduate programs New Media and Journalism and
Cultural Management (Panteion University) and Human Resources Management
(Athens University of Economics and Business). She is also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar
at Stevens Institute of Technology, USA.
Dimitra is the author of the books Human Resource Management in Modern
Organizations (2008) and Leaders of the Future (co-author, 2016). She has been
working as Human Resource Management Consultant for many years and she was
also the scientific coordinator of the EU-funded project Young Business Leaders.
Dimitra was a mentor at the Athens Startup Weekend Entrepreneurial Journalism
and the Athens Startup Weekend Education (SWEDU). She is a Certified Coach on
Emotional Intelligence and a member of the NeuroLeadership Institute.

Alexis Karakatsanis
Programme Manager of Antenna Music Greece

Alexis Karakatsanis is the Group Programme Manager of Antenna Music
Greece (RYTHMOS 9.49 and EASY 97.2). His expertise lies in keeping the
right balance between the business aspect and the creativity side of radio.
Alexis’ model of operation is based on audience and music research and
talent development. He is an expert in managing hi-ego talents and
developing innovative strategies for ratings success. Alexis started his career
in Thessaloniki as a radio DJ/producer and was the PD of the legendary
STAR FM for 15 years. He has been involved in the launch of seven very
successful radio stations in southeastern Europe. During his career he
developed a lot of morning shows in Thessaloniki, Athens, Serbia and Cyprus.
Alexis studied Business Administration at the University of Macedonia and
holds a Diploma in Leading Media and Entertainment Companies from
Copenhagen Business School.



Giannis Sorotos
Creative Director at the Newtons Laboratory

Giannis Sorotos started as copywriter at D’Arcy Athens, continued at JWT Spot Athens, Adel Saatchi & Saatchi, DOT Dash and at Leo Burnett where he became a Creative Director,
something which he still is today at The Newtons Laboratory. All of these years he has done
work for many Greek and International clients and has won awards and distinctions both in
Greece and abroad.
In 2016 he started collaborating with Panteion University as an External Instructor and with
Eric Parks they give the lesson «Creativity:The Art of Storytelling Lab» which is part of the
program of the #ADandPRLAB, Department of Communication, Media and Culture, Panteion
Univesity

Long before he started working in advertising though, like any normal human, he listened to
music. As the years went by he got more involved with it and as a result he worked as a
radio producer for several years (Rock FM, Epikoinonia FM, etc) and as a music journalist
(POP & ROCK, mixgrill.gr, etc.)
 
In the past 5 years he has also worked as a music supervisor in plays at the Greek Art
Theatre, the Skrow Theater and more.


Thanasis Papathanasiou
Creative Chairman of Frank and Fame

Thanasis Papathanasiou is one of the most widely respected creative admen of Greece.
He has been on the frontline of advertising for more than 30 years,
has worked for the biggest greek and international brands
and has won numerous awards both in Greece and abroad.
Thanasis has created 2 successful  start ups, Cream in 2000 and Frank in 2007 (which in 2015 merged with Fame to become Frank and Fame).
Both agencies are today in the top 10 agencies in Greece.
In 2018 he served as the President of the organising committee of Ermis Awards.


Marios Linakis
Co-founder and Head of Creative at Linakis Digital

Excellent communication is the boldness to turn complexity into simplicity. "Marios Linakis was born in Athens in 1972. He is the co-founder and Creative Head of Linakis Digital, an internationally awarded Greek digital agency. He holds numerous international distinctions such as Red Dot awards, German Design awards, European design awards and ΕΒΓΕ awards. Marios studied graphic design at Brighton University and received a Master of Arts in Communication design at Central St. Martin's College of Art & Design, University of the Arts, London. For a number of years he worked as creative director for major digital agencies in Greece and taught graphic design and typography at AKTO, Middlesex University, London. Since 2004, he has been mentoring and lecturing at design conferences and workshops at home and abroad such as Design Athens, Digitized, Behance, Union of Greek Graphic Designers conferences and Microsoft Dev days and was Chairman of this year’s Ermis digital awards. He has also served as a member of judging panels at Epica awards, Cannes Young Lions awards 2017, European design awards, Ermis digital awards and ΕΒΓΕ.''  


Nadia Petropoulou
Lawyer

Nadia Petropoulou was born in Athens in 1982. She studied Law at the National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens wherefrom she graduated in 2005. She widened her field
of expertise by acquiring a Master in Business Administration (MBA) of AUEB. She is a Court
of Appeal Lawyer and since 2007 she has been a member of the Athens Bar Association and
a partner of “A. Petropoulos & Associates” Law firm.
During her MBA studies she has specialized in the field of Marketing and has gained
innovative promotional techniques on National and International level, studying market
competition and its implications in the corporate development. In addition, she managed to
acquire useful experience in the practical implementation of legislation in the corporate
environment and the importance of organizational culture in the field of mergers and
acquisitions.
Within the scope of incorporation startups, apart from undertaking the
incorporation startup process and guidance of entrepreneurs through all stages until the
finalization of an Investment Agreement, her main goal is to safeguard the company and the
entrepreneurs through the lawful registration of their IP rights, which will surely become a
prerequisite in a future buyout or acquisition.
Her main specialization is in Patent & Trademark Law, on National and International

Lida Tsene

Dr. Lida Tsene holds a PhD from Panteion University, Department of Communication, Media and Culture (2010) in the field of social media and social responsibility. Since 2008 she collaborates with the Advertising and Public Relations Lab of Panteion University as researcher and teaching associate.
She worked for four years (2010-2014) as adjunct professor at the Department of Informatics and Mass Media of Western Greece Technical Educational Institution. Since 2012 she teaches at the MA Communication and new Journalism of Cyprus Open University and since 2013 at the MA Cultural Organizations Management of the Hellenic Open University. Since 2012 she facilitates two online seminars on social media and cultural management and entrepreneurship at Hellenic American Union.
In 2016 she was appointed to teach “Cultural Entrepreneurship” at the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University. She has worked as a journalist, CSR and communication consultant, while since 2005 she is Public Relations and Educational Programs Director of Comicdom Press, a non-profit organization dedicated to comics. In 2015 she founded Athens Comics Library. She has published papers in the field of digital media, journalism, communication, comics and arts management. Among her research interests are topics related to social and journalism entrepreneurship, as well as to transmedia storytelling.



Konstantinos Papachristopoulos

Konstantinos Papachristopoulos (Ph.D, CPhychol) has worked for Local Authorities, Developmental Agencies, NGOs, consultancy firms, employment/innovation centers and academic/adult education institutions since 2002. He has provided lectures & workshops in courses/themes such as organizational psychology/behavior, human resources management and he has facilitated numerous workshops of employees and students for team building, conflict management, social skills and social innovation (i.e. Citylabs). He has been the scientific coordinator for more than 15 research and development projects and has participated in working groups of at least 30 European Programmes. He is an Expert in ESCO, Council of Europe (Intercultural Cities Network) and Culture Programme in European Commission.
Kostas is a scientific expert in collective leadership and innovation initiatives, project development and idea generation and he is obsessed working with teams in organizations to bring innovation and positive social impact in life. He has completed undergraduate studies in Psychology and Business Administration, postgraduate studies in Human Resource Management (M.Sc.), Counselling and Guidance (M.A.), Cultural Organizations Management (M.Sc.) and holds a Ph.D. in Social/Organizational Psychology. Kostas has been a trainee of Athenian Institute of Anthropos (AKMA) for the last 6 years. Curiosity, observation and action have been the lodestars of Kostas's journey till now while Alexia and Zoe are his projects for life..



Vassilis Koufopoulos

Vassilis Koufopoulos has been working for Radio Stations, TV channels and Newspapers. He writes articles about the Greek Media Industry, from 1993. Currently he is a radio producer at Radiofono 24/7, presenting the radio programme “Shortcuts” (20.00-22.00 pm, Monday to Friday).


Andreas Panagopoulos
Journalist, Visiting Lecturer

Andreas M. Panagopoulos is a high experienced journalist in both traditional and Digital
media, visiting Lecturer at Universiity of Athens (NKUA), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
(AUTH) and European Communication Institute (ECI), teaching multimedia and cross-
platform news writing and production, content creation for news and marketing, audience
analytics.
He founded, in 2016, and run until 2017 the first Multimedia production hub in Greece at
one of the country’s leading digital publishing groups (Dpg), covering the needs of 11
properties. In August 2015, he organized and run from the scratch as Head of News , CNN
Greece, the Greek online edition of CNN. From 2009 until July 2015 he was the News
Director for ANTENNA TV, one of the leading TV stations in the country and reconstructed its
digital news edition. He is a journalist and new media consultant at Athens News Agency.
Since November 2014, Andreas is a PHD candidate at the Journalism and Media Dept. of the
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His PHD thesis revolves around news websites in Greece
and impact of digital audience metrics on news selection.
His research interests are: web metrics, Gatekeeping, Journalism practices on Digital , TV and
Radio, Fake news and verification practices.
He has been granted with the Ath. Botsis Foundation Journalism Award.
Additionally, Andreas has been awarded three times with the Gold “Best Integrated
Reporting” Award at the Digital Media Awards of 2014, 2015 and 2016.
He has been a highly experienced reporter in all major categories of journalistic reporting,
including politics and economy, since 1990 and in all media platforms( TV, Radio, Print).

Degree in Natural Sciences, GIS and Satellite Remote Sensing expert, after working as an analyst in the GIS field decides to begin to understand how to do business and was thrown in the startup universe.
