The first International Startup Weekend in Eastern Macedonia & Thrace

Startup Weekend Kavala is a 54-hour event where participants pitch ideas for new startup ventures, form diverse teams around those ideas, & work to develop a functional prototype within a weekend. 

The event is going to take place at Kavala’s Cultural Center. The cultural center is a part of the municipal tobacco warehouse, an elegant neoclassical Ottoman building. The venue has a strategic place in Kapnergati Square, where is located in the heart of the city center. 

Startup Weekend Kavala is the first Startup Weekend event in the entire Eastern Macedonia & Thrace with an international character. The event is going to host a French qualified facilitator and well-experienced mentors-judges from abroad.
During the event, all the participants will learn how to make a real company, connect with talented people, experienced mentors from different industries, the organizing team, & launch a real startup after 54 exciting hours.  

Startup Weekend Kavala is the perfect environment to validate your idea, to gain new skills, & meet other local or international marketers, designers, developers, students & startup enthusiasts.

Thanos Leontaris

Thanos is a Lawyer in Thessaloniki, Greece. He is a holder of an MBA from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and International Law LLM Candidate at the same University. Before starting his own practice he has worked for a boutique law firm in Thessaloniki and for NATO’s Allied Land Command based in Izmir, Turkey at the Office of the Legal Advisor. He has contributed articles on business on Huffington Post Greece and Before becoming a lawyer he has worked as a telecommunications consultant, marketing officer and communications staffer in political campaigns. He is passionate about providing startuppers with counsel and solutions to achieve their dreams and is a fanatical media content binger.

Christina Alex Brown
Vice President at Apollidon

Christina Alex Brown (A Greek American) is a global connector and strategic relationship builder who lives in Gainesville, Florida, United States. She utilizes her know how and connections in the fields of start -up company creation, online-learning, higher education, workforce and economic development, tech transfer, government policy, politics and journalism to create productive partnerships. In her role as Vice-President of “Apollidon”, she strategically helps universities build brand and reach students in the online learning space.  She advises “Leaderlync”, a startup which uses an app to track high school and university students’ employability skills towards scholarships, college applications and employment, she advises in the area of business development, fund raising and business strategy. Christina enjoys her work with young entrepreneurs who need help launching their startups.

Nikos Savvopoulos
Branding Specialist

Nick was born and raised in Kavala, a city with scenery that stimulates an artistic perception of the world. The colours, the shapes and the feelings accomplished their purpose and so he became a dedicated graphic designer. But, besides the poetic side of life, Nick Savopoulos is now a branding specialist, with over 10 years of experience. He is the Founder and Creative Director of _Artware_, a branding Agency located in Kavala, and Co-Founder of _Skye_, a branding agency specialising in Hospitality Companies and how they can communicate their values.
Nick believes that a Success Story is not just a simple story; it is only a fragment of a greater Philosophy.

Dimitris Maditinos

Professor Dimitrios Maditinos is born and grew up in Kavala. He has studied at Lund University Sweden and
Greenwich University, London UK, where he conducted his PhD. He’s been working for more than 30 years in
academia and mainly at Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Institute of Technology. He is visit professor at several
European Universities and is member of various International networks. His background is on Business and
Informatics while recently his interests turn to e-business and financial modeling.

Panagiotis Deligiannidis

Deligiannidis Panagiotis is an electric engineer specialized in hardware design, software analysis and computer programming. He is also specialized in wireless communications. He is into computers’ retail business since 1981. He has written multiple notes and articles on computers and computer science. He has written a book concerning the microprocessor Z80 machine code language. He has also written a software program about radio broadcasting automation. Multiple broadcasting stations operate with the ONAIR program. He has been an instructor of computer science.

Tasos Pagakis
Senior Marketer

Launched more than 4.300 propositions for powerful voices in leadership and business, and more than 370 companies in Telecoms, Energy, Financial and FMCG. Led project teams of 850 people and managed more than half a billion budgets for some of the Fortune500 incl. Visa, Ford, Raytheon, Johnson & Johnson, P&G, Unilever, EMC, IBM, Sony. For the last seven years he served the global Marketing & Communication function of Ericsson.

Nikolaos Tsoniotis
Digital Product Manager

Nikolaos Tsoniotis has a Masters in Electronic Eng. and Electronic Communication Systems from The University of Hull. He has worked as a Telecommunications R&D Engineer for over a decade. He is a serial entrepreneur with Mobile Apps, SaaS, Social Good and Hardware startup efforts, and is currently focused on Product Management for early stage startups. Mr. Tsoniotis is also the SKG.Startupers community curator, tech advisor and mentor at AgriEnt accelerator and active startup mentor in ALLILONnet. Board Member of OpenMinds.

Thanasis Papapostolou
Certified Coach | Trainer | CX Consultant

Thanasis is the founder of AIP Consulting, a company that provides Training, Mystery Shopping and Customer Experience services and solutions across Cyprus and Greece for major multinational companies in Automotive, Beauty & Fashion and Electronics industries.

Additionally, he has founded, a platform that offers access to top career coaching and job-search services and advice. Prior to that, he has served in sales management positions for various FMCG & Retail multinational companies for 15+ years. 

In SWVolos he wishes to support the participants particularly with their customer measurement & learning process on the way of turning their ideas into products.

Inna Boyadzhieva
Lawyer | Trainer | Speaker

Inna Boyadzhieva is co-founder of BBU Foundation, owner of Backersway and Indiegogo academic program leader. She is co-organizer of SBC – Leaders.Influence.You meetups and member of Forbes Woman Society. Her talent is bridging the gap between talented entrepreneurs & people with money. Her goal is to work hand in hand with aspiring business owners to bring their dreams to fruition.

Leonidas Skerletopoulos

Certified as a coach and specialized in behavioural architecture, Leonidas helps business
connect with their clients and social businesses design interventions for social change. He
has been actively involved with the startup, business and social business ecosystems in
Greece as a consultant and trainer. He currently serves as Marketing and Communications
consultant at Evros Chamber of commerce, special advisor at Society of Social Psychiatry and
Mental Health, founder of the Mindspark, Co-founder of The Nest Hellenic Centre for Socent,
production associate at the Social Growth TV Show (ΕΡΤ), National Rep of the European
Social Marketing Association (ESMA), and Cο-ordinators member at the International Social
Marketing Association (iSMA).

Christie Sarri
Founder at Pom | Strategist & Business Model Innovator

 Christie graduated as a civil Engineer from the University of Rome - La Sapienza and gained experience in designing and building structures working with the international companies on projects with high social impact. Involved since the very beginning in the business development of those companies she nourished further her interest in strategic modelling of businesses. Her MBA (Warwick University) and Open Innovation courses (Berkley) facilitated the co-generation of the VES - Value Exchange System tool (Meggitt Bird) and a series of publications explaining the benefits of the hybrid business model. Mapping problems and evaluating businesses prior to leading them to an innovative growth strategy are her main impact areas. Through pom - a coworking space in Heraklion she envisages bridging Cretans with a global community of like-minded people. She also runs her own engineering consultancy Christie Sarri & Partners.

Therapon Fakas
Development & Communication Consultant | Life & Business Coach

Therapon was born and raised in Thessaloniki. Studied Electrical Engineer at Democtitus University of Thrace and for many years was active in public and private construction works.
As a strong believer of the motto that every challenge hides a new chance, he used the crisis in the construction field as a trigger for a personal development.
Having attended various specialized seminars and completed with success the program “Certificated in Coaching of the Athens Coaching Institute”, he is now working on “alternative” energy sources, those that encourage and move people and companies to accomplish their goals.His favorite quote is: ¨After all, No barrier is greater from a person’s or a company’s will¨ .

Giorgos Pilpilidis
CEO at Hopwave

George was born in Thessaloniki and studied in the department of Electrical Engineer in University of Thessaly, Volos, where he dropped school to work as a freelancer full stack developer for web and mobile applications for various clients. Started studying on startups after attending his first Startup Weekend in Volos in 2014 where he and his team actually failed to win the event, but didn’t give up. Following several proud startup fails he started with his partner and cofounder George Siatras, and has successfully won several startup competitions, raising his first funds for his venture. Being an active jack of all trades in the tourism industry and with knowledge on tech, startups, team and project management he’d be glad to help you with anything you need.
