UI/UX design and prototyping skills are often useful for both engineering and non-engineering students. Non-engineering students require the eye for UX design and basic design skills to convey their ideas, while engineering students require front-end skills to deliver the product. While this workshop cannot turn students into professional UX designers over 2 hours, it can provide them the basic concepts of product design, user research and wire-framing, and inform them of the resources available to learn on their own and develop their prototypes.

We will be kicking off the bootcamp with a sharing by members of Plain Exchange, an AngelHack Hong Kong Champion and HACKcelerator Champion, on building incremental "pretotypes" to prove assumptions (right or wrong) quickly without using up too much resources.

The second part of the session is where attendees can get their hands dirty - We will go through the prototyping process and introduce resources for inspiration as well as prototyping. By the end of the session, you will be able to make a simple wireframe of Facebook and prototype with animations and mirroring.

Speakers: Michelle Chan (HKU), Park Ji-Ho (HKUST), Long Hoang (HKUST)

Bio: Michelle Chan is a self taught UX designer who previously worked in UX design for Amazon in Seattle and startups in Silicon Valley, Yale, and Hong Kong. She double majors in international business & global management and computer science at HKU.

Jiho has experience in working as a mobile and front-end developer in startups of Korea and HK (including Plain Exchange, a student-founded startup from HKUST). After finishing his undergraduate degree in HKUST, now he is doing research on artificial intelligence and natural language processing at HKUST Human Language Technology Center. Check out http://medium.com/@parkjiho for more of his stories.

Long Hoang: I am a Vietnamese who was born and raised up in Germany. Entrepreneurship and Computer Science has been my passion for a long time. My story begins with a website which I created when I was 11-years old. I needed to fake my identity to be able to rent web servers, but soon I earned my first money with simple apps and online services. Today, I am 24-years old and was involved in several startups in Germany and Hong Kong. My technical expertise are in Robotics, embedded systems and backend development.

The Startup Weekend HKU Bootcamp series is co-organised by the team behind TecHKU, the HKU Journal of Technology.
