Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?
Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What makes this an AI edition Startup Weekend?
This particular AI edition is part of the Techstars Global Startup Weekend (TGSW) series. Taking place in November 2018, the #TGSW is a global initiative by Techstars during which 15,000 entrepreneurs around the world will join a Techstars Startup Weekend. Between Nov 16-18th 2018 Budapest is joining this initiative by bringing together interested stakeholder from the Budapest community to participate in a special AI edition Techstars Startup Weekend.

During the weekend the teams will work on ideas related to artificial intelligence and machine learning. What will make it really special is the group of mentors we will have to help teams figure out the different aspects of AI applications.

Who is the Budapest TGSW for?
Data scientist, robotics specialists, developers, designers, marketers, business developers, AI fans or anyone who is just curious and eager to learn about AI and startups. Come test your ideas or join a team and participate in creating the future of artificial intelligence at the Techstars Startup Weekend Artificial Intelligence - Budapest Edition!

Please send us an email to with ANY question you might have. We acknowledge this event might bring up a lot of questions and maybe even feel a little intimidating if you don't have a tech background or a space idea, so we want to make sure we address any question or hesitation that comes up.

What is Techstars Startup Weekend and how does it work?

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events* designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams get the chance to get coached by entrepreneurs and industry experts. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education.

With more than 4,000 events held in 150 countries since 2009 and a global community, Startup Weekend is often considered as the largest incubator in the world!

On Friday night, you'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets.  You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Then, over the course of the weekend, you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely!

Coaches and Mentors

Bence Krenusz
Data Scientist, Nokia

Data Scientist with Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc) and with Physics background, who wants to face new challenges. I have experience in Python programming aiming to the Data Science as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn, MySQL, Machine Learning algorithms implementation with SciKit-Learn, Spark for Big Data, Natural Language Processing, Neural Nets and Deep Learning and data visualisation programs like Tableau.
Secondly, I have became an experienced user of the AutoCAD by the result of previous workplaces.

Sándor Jordán
Member of Technical Staff, Nokia Bell Labs

Sandor Jordan is the member of technical staff at Nokia Bell Labs. His experience in biomedical engineering, robotics and deep learning makes him a swiss knife in prototyping projects. Thanks to his multidisciplinary background and innovation skill he created many publications, IPRs and demos during his work in Bell Labs. His research interest covers deep learning based image processing and scene understanding and security aspect of DL models.

Hendrik Haandrikman
VP of Growth, Bitrise

Hendrik is VP of Growth for Bitrise, Hungary's first and only Y Combinator backed startup and the mobile app development platform used by half of the world's mobile unicorn startups. Previously, he built the growth team at one of Europe's biggest social gaming companies and is both proud of - and slightly embarrassed by - the psychological conversion tricks he helped perfect there. After this, at a digital media service provider, he defined and executed the go-to market strategy for one of the world's first AI-powered operational intelligence platforms for video distributors. He's currently leveraging over a decade in all things growth to help the world's mobile app developers discover just how much better their job is when they use Bitrise. Besides a keen ability to see what buttons to push and levers to turn to accelerate growth, he's pretty handy with Python as well as BASIC on the Commodore 64. 

Zoltán Papp
Quantitative Researcher and Portfolio Manager, Causality

Zoltán is a machine learning expert, mentor, quantitative researcher, and portfolio manager. He has a Mathematics and Software Design MSc from Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest, and a Computer Science MSc from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. He did machine learning research at a number of universities: University of Helsinki, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and in Budapest. He joined a data science team at Morgan Stanley in 2010, where he was doing modelling and algorithmic bond trading. Since 2016, he is working as a quantitative researcher and portfolio manager at Causality, using machine learning to develop and apply fully automated trading strategies. He is a visiting professor at the Central European University where he teaches Machine Learning Concepts and Advanced Methods in Machine Learning. As a mentor, he provides machine learning consultancy for startups and developed industry participants

Levente Szabados
Senior consultant, AI Partners

Levente has a background in cognitive sciences and considerable experience in leading research and development teams as well as transforming research results into software applications. He has filled various roles at two startups including co-founder, lead of research, and chief technology officer. Levente’s work has covered topics including web ontologies, evolutionary computation, neural networks, and diverse natural language processing approaches. He currently has over 10 years of experience in applied AI and is working as a Senior Consultant. 

Remco Veenenberg
Head of Alliances, Budapest AI Co-founder

Remco has worked in startups focusing on emerging technologies for 5 years, most recently established more than 40+ applied Artificial Intelligence communities worldwide as part of the core team of CITY.AI before evangelizing the use of analytics and machine learning for retail banking with W.UP. Co-founder of Budapest AI & Beyond Banking Budapest

István Szukács
CTO / data engineer, LambdaInsight

In my over 15 years with various Fortune 500 companies and startups, I have held a variety of increasingly responsible positions in engineering, including systems & software engineering roles. I have managed changes in large scale infrastructures without downtime while customers were actively using the system. Besides engineering I have experience in managing onshore & offshore software teams delivering mission critical systems.

Róbert Hegedűs
Steep Ventures

Robert is a Partner of Steep Ventures, a new pre-seed fund helping founders from the European periphery go global. Robert has been helping talented tech founders since 2014. He's based in Vienna, Austria and cultivates a vast network in the regional and wider European VC and entrepreneurial community. Besides being an investor, he actively supports the ecosystem, having co-founded Mosaik.Space, one of the most thriving tech communities in CEE.

Szabolcs Baranyi
Cloud Solution Architect – Data and AI platform, Microsoft

Microsoft Cloud Solution Architect focus on Data platform and Advanced Analytics.
"Data is most valuable resources" and I working on to make it true. Coaching and consulting companies on how to build systems capable to collect and analyses systems. My Expertise and passionate is designing end to end solution architectures for advanced analytical systems working with large datasets leveraging big data technology in a cost-effective way. Deliver deep level technical workshops performing and delivering Architecture Design Session (ADS), which includes delivery of Proof Of Concepts (POC), Pilots, Prototypes, provide guidance for completing competency/qualifications technical requirements. 
Having special knowledge and more than 10 years of expertise in manufacturing, measurement data collector (IoT) and analysis systems working with large automotive vendors. Also, have unique knowledge of social network based fraud detection.

János Berke
SQL Server Specialist

Janos Berke is an IT professional with almost two decades of technical and management experience. Currently working as a principal consultant at Sun City Software Kft. and helping companies in database development as well as administration and query tuning. Microsoft has been awarded Janos as a Most Valuable Professional in 2015 because of his community influencer and evangelization work about the Microsoft Data Platform.Janos can be found as a Presenter at the Hungarian User Group of Microsoft SQL Server.
