Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1,000 past events in 110 countries around the world since 2011. More than 100,000 people across the globe are SW alumni!

Startup Weekend is proud to be associated with North East Festival 2014 to organise a Startup Weekend at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, Dr Rajendra Prasad Rd, Rajpath Road Area, Central Secretariat, New Delhi.

This is an effort aimed towards empowering youth through entrepreneurship by giving them the opportunity to bring ideas at an event which will have the presence of the CMs of all 8 North Eastern State along with some senior dignitaries including Cabinet Ministers in Government of India. The Event is being organised from 7th - 9th November 2014.

Current event is a GENERAL Startup Weekend Edition where participants can pitch their raw idea which could be in any vertical/theme like Technology, Education, Health, Disability, Environment, etc. and work on building a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) thus propelling them to take their idea to the next stage.

Format of the Event:

Friday night:60-second pitches that result in the formation of small teams around the best, most viable education concepts. Educators validate ideas, then all attendees vote. We hope you’ll pitch, but definitely not required!

Saturday and Sunday:Work days! Teams focus on user research, customer development, validating their ideas and building prototypes with the help of experienced coaches from the education and entrepreneurial world. You’re welcome to stay and work as long as the venue will allow!

Sunday evening:Teams demo their education products and receive valuable feedback from a panel of expert judges. Winning teams take home a grab bag of great tools to help launch their company!

Over 200 startups have been launched through Startup Weekends in India and over 9000 startups have been launched globally in over 500 cities across the world. Are you ready to start? Come join Startup Weekend Delhi.

Ajay Chaturvedi
Founder & Chairman - HarVa

Honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader 2013-18, Ajay truly believes in the power of cost effective innovation on all aspects that will lead to value creation across the world, especially in India and supports the Socio-Capitalistic business models as the drivers of inclusive growth. He also thinks that the real growth in rural areas across the world and in India is yet to come and is possible only when we get into the real fabric of the country and not just overlay thoughts and patterns from the developed nations. A voracious reader, an avid golfer and an ardent traveller, Ajay spent almost a decade living in the US and across the world and now lives in Gurgaon.  Ajay was awarded CNN IBN Youth Icon / Young Indian Leader of the year 2011. Ajay was nominated as one of the Amazing Global Indian by Times Now News 2012-13 and Yahoo unsung Heroes 2012-13. Most recently Ajay was picked as 40 most creative leaders across the world to attend THNK, The Creative School of Amsterdam's Accelerator program for Creative Leaders. He has also been appointed by the World Economic Forum to be the Founding Curator of the Global Shapers hub for Bhopal. Ajay Chaturvedi, is an ex-Citi banker, an engineer from BITS Pilani and a Graduate in Management of Tefrom the School of Engineering and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Sheetal Bahl
MD & CEO, Growx Ventures

Sheetal is MD&CEO of growx ventures, an early stage investment firm. Sheetal has led investments in a wide range of sectors including technology, logistics, and renewable energy, and sits on the Board of multiple firms.

Prior to growx, Sheetal helped set up the Everest Research Institute in India, and was an analyst on the outsourcing industry. Before Everest, Sheetal spent many years in management consulting with Andersen Consulting/ Accenture, working on strategy, business process reengineering, and cost reduction. Sheetal started his career with ICICI, where he was part of the founding team of the credit cards business and managed the entire technology front.

Sheetal holds a B.Tech. in Elec. Engineering from IIT Bombay.

Vikram Chopra
Sr. Consultant, TheAppLabb

“Customer always comes first” is Vikram’s motto. A true customer advocate and a serial entrepreneur, Vikram likens himself a Self-Unemployed Entrepreneur. Vikram began his career in sales within the technology sector, after completing his Bachelors of Economics degree from the University of Toronto. Over the years, Vikram honed his skills by working in all major and emerging areas of technology such as Unified Communications, Voip, Virtualization, Cloud Computing, Green Technology and Mobile Applications. He then ventured out on his own and co-founded several start ups in Cloud Computing, Green Technology and Mobile Applications. Vikram specializes in working with technology start-ups in developing and executing their business strategies and facilitating their client acquisition process.

Maninder Gulati
Vice President, LightSpeed Venture Partners

Maninder joined Lightspeed Advisory Services India in 2012. He brings over eight years of operating, business building, entrepreneurship and consulting experience to the firm.
Prior to Lightpseed, Maninder was an Associate at McKinsey & Company. At McKinsey, Maninder worked on several growth strategy and implementation engagements across various sectors including financial services, organized retail, digital music, data centers and building security/automation.
Before McKinsey, Maninder co-founded a voice based life-streaming platform –, which allowed users to create a digital diary of their life. Prior to this entrepreneurial venture, Maninder worked at ITC Limited, India’s largest FMCG company. At ITC, Maninder was a part of the core team that launched ITC’s personal care business and he spearheaded key organization transformation initiatives such as Six-sigma for the tobacco business.
Maninder graduated with a Dual degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay, where he held key leadership positions including that of Head of ‘The Entrepreneurship Cell’. He holds an MBA from ISB, Hyderabad, where he was a part of the Dean and Merit list.

Abhishek Gupta

Abhishek Gupta, currently leads the TLab initiatives at Times Internet limited. At TLabs, Abhishek is responsible for finding and funding startups in Technology, Internet and mobile space. Apart from day-to-day mentoring of startups in strategy, technology, product and marketing and connecting them to mentors, advisors and investors from the industry, he is also responsible for the management and execution of the program. Prior to TLabs Abhishek as VP of Technology, Lime Labs India, built engineering and operations team (100+) and led the Product and Technology initiative of two Internet businesses LimeDomains(sold to NetFronts) and LimeExchange (sold to Freelancer). At LimeLabs he was involved in every aspect of creation and execution of a business – from establishing the overall concept, strategic blueprint, technology and financial planning; through team building, strategic partnering, product development, and M&A. He hold a B.Tech degree in Computer Science and engineering from IT-BHU.

Avinash Raghava
iSPIRT Foundation

Chief Evangelist for - a platform for Software Product Startups in India.

Over 16 years of professional experience in the tech. sector, with focus on the Web, Mobile, Software Products and interactive marketing space.

An evangelist for Made-In-India Software Products and contribute actively in building towards a healthy ecosystem. Loves new technology and new business ideas in various domains. Interacting and working with people in implementing these ideas and technologies is his passion.

Kuldeep Bhayana
Cofounder, Jaarwis

Kuldeep is a PhD. Research Student in Big Data Neural Networks at IIT-Delhi and holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. Prior to Jaarwis, Kuldeep has been the CTO of a global wireless M2M business headquartered in Australia and the Senior Vice President- Technology with the Credit Risk Division of the Royal Bank of Scotland (Markets & International Banking). He has played mission-critical and key technological roles in top investment banks and financial institutions that include Symstream Technology, RBS (SVP Tech.), Citi Bank (Enterprise Architecht), Lehman Brothers (V.P. Tech.) and Solution Architects India (Co-founder & Chief Technologist).

Kuldeep’s experience revolves around SaaS, Web 2.0, Cloud Computing, Product Development, Financial, Tech, & IT Services. He has been instrumental in driving technology roadmaps, solution architecture and business change, and application platforms across different functional areas- capital markets, valuation and risk, asset management and payments.

Coaches and Mentors

Ashish Kila
Director, Perfect Group

Perfect Group is a well-diversified conglomerate providing services in the sectors of Financial Supermarkets (NBFC), Investment Research, Infrastructure Development and Consultancy Services.
Ashish spearheads the Investment Management division of the Group. He also looks at long term strategic business initiatives for all verticals. .
Prior to joining Perfect Group, Ashish has worked in research roles at Morgan Stanley India, Religare Securities, and Goldman Sachs. During his stint with these leading investment banks, Ashish has done extensive research on listed Indian companies across various industries.
Ashish is hailed amongst the leading value investors in India & he  speaks regularly at various business schools like MDI Gurgaon and investor forums like October Quest, IIF, ISG, NIRC (ICAI), Flame Investment Lab-Alumni Meets, Perfect Research etc. He is also a regular participant at leading share market conferences such as ValueX. He has also contributed articles for newspapers like Business Standard and magazines like Money Today.
He also takes active interest in the social initiatives of the Group, and is currently the Vice President of All India Marwari Yuva Manch.
Ashish is also a startup enthusiast he actively mentors people on challenges faced in scaling up an organisation be it fund raising, hiring, business strategy etc.  He actively speaks on entrepreneurship and  networking  in various B-Schools like MDI Gurgaon, College of Business Studies, EMPI Business School etc.

Perfect Group has also made angel funding in Oasis Insulation and they actively seek such opportunities.

Prukalpa Sankar
Co-Founder, Social Cops

Prukalpa is the co-founder of SocialCops ( - a data technology company where they using mobile phones and technology to turn citizens into human sensors empower key decision makers to make data driven decisions in public health, education & infrastructure. The work they have done at the intersection of technology, people and data has won them accolades globally from the United Nations, Microsoft & IBM.

Prukalpa also sits on the jury of the World Summit Youth Award & writes extensively. She has previously worked in Goldman Sachs and Exxon Mobil. She studied Engineering and Entrepreneurship at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and is currently based out of New Delhi, India.

Jatin Modi

Jatin is a serial entrepreneur, having started his first company at 19. He founded in 2010, which became one of India’s leading health E-store. This was acquired by in 2012. He has also had ventures in E-education and Water and headed Strategy for the USD 50 Million dollar funded
At present, Jatin runs 3 ventures- FrogIdeas which is one of India’s leading digital strategy and marketing companies, Insight Mantis- which is a Customer Experience custodian with operations in 123 cities in the country, and Blue Lion Group- which is an early stage investment network.

Karthik Sridhar
Managing Partner at DataCulture

Karthik Sridhar is an entrepreneur in the data analytics space. In over fourteen years of his career in data analytics and strategy consulting, he has helped his employing organizations and their clients in improving their topline and bottom-line performance through the application of business intelligence, statistics and sound business strategy. He specializes in bridging the gap between the business outcomes and analytical interventions.
Karthik graduated from Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi and is Managing Partner at DataCulture Analytics Company and Partner at BOLD Advisors

Abhishek Agrawal
Director, Products at Makemytrip

Abhishek is a Director of Product Management at MakeMyTrip – India’s largest Online Travel Agent, and reports to the Chief Business Officer. After successfully leading the Air business (which contributes 60% of the company’s revenue) for 13 quarters, and launching 3 new businesses – Bus Ticketing, Rail Ticketing, and Car Rental Business (each now among the top 2 in their respective markets), Abhishek moved to the Holiday business - an area of strategic importance to MakeMyTrip as it attempts to reduce dependence on low-margin air business. In this new role, Abhishek leads the Flight+Hotel Packages, Online Holidays Business, and Enterprise Products for Holidays Business. Abhishek is responsible for accelerating transactional growth and online adoption, meeting revenue targets, and driving product management for website and enterprise products.

Arjun Banarjee

Arjun Banarjee is a strategy consultant and serial-entrepreneur. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with many years of practice in the USA. He is a partner at a CPA firm in Silver Spring, MD. His expertise lies is the areas of management & cost accounting, financial analysis, accounting systems, M&A and venture-funding.
He works with start-ups and small businesses as an advisor, CFO or investor;  helping them with their corporate & financial strategy, accounting systems & processes, budgeting, financial projections and valuation models.
He also works with companies looking to establish business presence in USA; and handles their accounting & tax matters.

Kartik Desai
Principal, Asha Impact

Kartik is Principal at Asha Impact, an impact investing and policy advocacy organization set up by Vikram Gandhi. He has over a decade of experience in venture capital & entrepreneurship, investment banking and development economics. Kartik has worked with two of the leading impact investment funds in India, Lok Capital and Aavishkaar, as well as set up his own social venture, What’s up Bharat. Prior to working as a venture capitalist, he worked with Merrill Lynch in the investment banking and private equity groups and did consulting assignments for organisations including the UN Development Program and Rockefeller Foundation. Kartik graduated from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and from Columbia University with a Master in International Affairs.

Gordon Bruce

Gordon M Bruce is the founder of Northeast Learning Academies, an enterprise providing career training for UPSC and state civil services aspirants in Meghalaya. Previously he was the Chief Instructor for Career Academy and Chief Coordinator for an integrated career counseling program sponsored by the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills District. In addition, Mr. Bruce has over 25 years of experience in the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation from where he recently retired as Deputy General Manager. Mr. Bruce has a B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, a BA (Hons.) in History, Political Science and Economics from North Eastern Hill University and a B Com from North Eastern Hill University. He has also completed a range of trainings on SMEs, project appraisal, computer aided design, enterprise resource planning, cloud computing, network administration, Java and C++. Mr. Bruce also currently serves as the Rangbah Shnong (Administrator) of Laitumkhrah centre, the local self-government organization for the main commercial locality in Shillong.
