The hardest part of starting up is starting out. At Startup Weekend Kolkata participants will be immersed in the ideal environment for the startup magic to happen. At Startup Weekend Kolkata cool people with awesome ideas will be welcomed to Pitch and facilitated to kickstart their Startup with help of renowned coaches/mentors/judges!  
Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations. Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. The weekend is centred around innovation and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on a idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

Build Something Real:
Put your talents to work and build a real product, team, and brand for execution in the real world or even just your portfolio.
Put final touches on your presentation and state your case to the Judges.

Vasant Subramanyan

Vasant Subramanyan, is a serial entrepreneur, and has promoted a number of businesses which have been providing services to healthcare, and corporate entities in the USA – under the brand Last Peak.
He has been a consultant in the Info Tech space to technology ventures in the US which have seen the convergence of platforms in data, voice and picture capture.
He was an international corporate compliance & financial administration consultant former multinational, F200 consultant on cross-border trade, statutory compliance and mergers and acquisitions.
Head of Nirdhan Development and Microfinance, a Section 25 Company – registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 – which is a “Non Profit Company” with a mission to alleviate poverty by providing training, assistance and support to impoverished and Below Poverty Line Women and Slum Dwellers so as to enable the bringing about of a change to their economic status and assist them to be financially self-sufficient Nirdhan works in the very poorest of Districts in West Bengal, Vasant’s home state.
Education: Degree holder - Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Law.
He served as President of TiE – Kolkata – a Not for Profit organization, which advocates, promotes and evangelizes entrepreneurship as an alternative to employment – local chapter of TiE Silicon Valley. TiE was founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals with roots in the Indus region. There are currently more than 11,000 members and over 2,500 charter members in 55 chapters across 12 countries. TiE’s mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, and education. Dedicated to the virtuous cycle of wealth creation and giving back to the community. TiE’s focus is on generating and nurturing next generation of entrepreneurs.
He has served as the Regional President of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce Eastern Region – India’s ONLY Bilateral INDO-US Chamber of commerce. He currently sits on the National Executive Committee body of the IACC.

Management Committee Member – Indo Italian Chamber of Commerce Eastern Region – Kolkata. 

Hobbies: War Strategy, F1 Technology, Green / Clean Tech, Computers and Connected devices. 

Mentoring and evangelizing Entrepreneurship to School and College Students. Mentoring startups, assisting in building business plans, and business strategy.

Gaurav Kapoor

Subhrangshu Sanyal

An MBA from IIM Calcutta, Subhrangshu Sanyal joined IIM Calcutta Innovation Park as the CEO in January 2015. 
His current focus is to create a comprehensive ecosystem that would promote entrepreneurship and nurture innovation. He comes with eighteen years of experience in process and systems consulting in the banking and financial services domain. He has worked with leading companies in multiple geographies and was involved in end to end implementation of several large strategic projects for global organizations.
He also holds several other professional certifications like PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, CAMS (Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist).
Subhrangshu is a Rotarian and has deep passion for teaching

Sudipta Ghosh

Mr. Sudipta Ghosh, A Master in Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Post graduate in Intellectual Property Law from IIT Kharagpur, has a range of experience across Aerospace, Steel, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Energy & Utilities, ICT Industry sectors encompassing R&D and IP Management, global service delivery management, product management, international business development, strategy formulation, organizational development, quality management, partner collaboration, and M&A.

He has conducted several workshops on IPR & IP Management at national and international levels. He has also been guest faculty at IIT, IIM and DST-sponsored program on IPR.

He has been guest speaker and instructor in several IPR related events organized by industry body like CII, ASSOCHAM, ICC, etc. in the past.He is inventor in 10 patents in the Energy Management and ICT space.

Coaches and Mentors


An Industry veteran with 33 years of hands-on experience and a passion for mentoring and continuous improvement. An engineer from BIT (Mesra) and an MBA from XLRI, he has worked with world class experts on Execution Management, TPM & Performance Excellence in industries like Tyres, Cement, Paper, Plastics and Timber.
He is now a Management Consultant and Mentor, focusing on Business Improvement and Startups in the SME space.
Passionate about his work, he helps youngsters think through and solve their problems.

Anindya Kar

Anindya Kar is co-founder of My Private tutor - Home Tutor Network a leading marketplace for tutors. He has over a decade of experience in investment banking in Asia and Middle East. Anindya has an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a B.E.(Comp Sc.) from Jadavpur University. Anindya will be mentoring the teams at Startup Weekend Kolkata 4.0 

Rohini Lodge

Rohini Lodge is the founder of Studio Red, an advertising agency supporting various Startups and SMEs, helping them forge brands which can tell a story. With a Degree in Design from Wigan & Leigh College, Rohini set up Studio Red in 2010 with a vision to fill a gap in the ad industry – providing quick and cost-effective marketing solutions for better functioning of businesses and create a professional outlook for Startups and SMEs within a stipulated time and budget.
She also works with corporates operating nationally, but Startups are what drive Rohini the most!

Through Studio Red, Rohini has been instrumental in offering branding solutions to various budding organizations in the city – from food delivery services to healthcare clinics, from unique F&B services to kids’ apparel.

Varun Biyani

Varun is the Founder and CEO of veSolve Solutions a Kolkata based IT start-up, which helps tech start-ups in their initial leg of journey with ideation, market research, staffing and MVP Development  Varun brings with him more than 8 years of experience in the Software industry along with strong logistics/distribution industry knowledge. Varun has experience of working with domestic and international courier players and has helped them optimize operations with the use of technology. Varun holds a Master’s degree in Information Systems and Management from Carnegie Mellon University with a focus on Operations and a Bachelors in Computer Science from M.S Ramaiah Institute of Technology.
