Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?
The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1,000 past events in 110 countries around the world in 2011. More than 100,000 people across the globe are SW alumni!

BITS Pilani, one of the premier institutes for engineering in India, has played a phenomenal role in fostering innovation driven entrepreneurship in the country. It has been the provenance of startups like GreyOrange Robotics, GharPay, Redbus and many such ventures that have immensely impacted the society. In order to uphold this attempt of encouraging startup culture on campus, BITS Pilani brings home the Startup Weekend for the first time on 27th and 28th February.

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and budding entrepreneurs driven by the idea of starting up. It aims at connecting like-minded people, who work together towards the refinement of their startup models over the weekend. It is the largest community of passionate innovators with over 3000 past events in 150 countries around the world. Startup Weekend follows a basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their idea to their peers and business leaders in order to get critical appraisal and feedback from them.

Friday February 26th

Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and community leaders

Form Teams
Teams start forming and discussing ideas

Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Sandeep Komaravelly
Sr. VP - Marketing at Snapdeal

He has been an integral part of the leadership team at Snapdeal right from the beginning, and a key contributor to the growth of the business into one of India’s largest internet companies. Experienced in building B2C and C2C marketplaces, with a very strong focus on agile execution and growth. 

Passionate about Product Management, Product marketing, Brand building and User growth in the new digital era, Owning a customer for real, and Integrated marketing.

Karthikeyan Vijayakumar
Founder and CEO,

Karthikeyan (KK) is the Founder & CEO of Twenty19. A firm believer in new technologies, he works at the intersection of technology and business. He co-founded Deepam, an NGO that provides opportunities & access to the less- privileged children through education. Deepam currently reaches out to over 220 children every weekend, in Chennai – India. Karthikeyan holds a degree in mechanical engineering from BITS, Pilani (2000 Batch). He was awarded the BITS Global 30 under 30 award in 2009.

Coaches and Mentors

Arpit Agarwal
Investment Professional at Blume Ventures

He has been a catalyst to entrepreneurs in India since 2006. He participated in the first Barcamp Bangalore (BCB1) that later led to setting up Headstart Network, India's largest network of early-stage entrepreneurs currently active in 15 locations. 

He works with Blume Ventures as a Principal  and, helps portfolio companies go to the next level and create a platform of services to aide them in their growth. His past experience includes manager at TLabs startup accelerator, part of Times Internet and Founder of Academic Ventures. Academic Ventures was a Technology Commercialization company focused on taking inventions from Indian innovators to global industry.

Before starting up, He was Enterprise Sales at Tata CRL, earned an MBA at IIT Bombay and wrote video codecs at Ittiam Systems. 

Siddhant Bhansali

Siddhant Bhansali is the Chief technological officer at keen interest in technology he has a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois: Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), along with a MBA from Indian School of Business(ISB).              He has been working with technology companies for about 12 years and have mentored over 80-90 startups across multiple domains (not just tech). He has previously worked with Microsoft and was part of the Outlook Express, Windows Core, and Internet Explorer teams.

In addition, He had also setup and managed technology teams for two American companies. For LearnItLive (US), as CTO, He was instrumental in taking key business and technology decisions that helped shape the product. For LiveText (US), as India Head, He was responsible for both managing the technology development with teams across Delhi and Mysore as well as handling business development efforts. He was also part of the StartupChile program and have given talks on entrepreneurship to students.

Shabnam Aggarwal
CEO & CTO at KleverKid

An engineer obsessed with mobile gadgets. A diehard researcher of all things edtech. A tinkerer & lego lover. Shabnam Aggarwal is the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and Chief technological officer(CTO) at KleverKid. KleverKid is the AirBnB for Learning. We make it ridiculously simple for parents to find the best afterschool extracurricular coach, teacher, tutor, workshop or program for their kid.

She is an edtech innovator. Over the past few years, she has honed in on a niche market: disrupting education in classrooms over mobile devices. She is also an Adviser at Eneza Education, an edtech company. She also acts as a guest lecturer at IIIT Delhi. She has previously worked as Head of Strategic Partnerships at Pearson and also as a Senior Vice President, Strategic Relations at Datawind Ltd. In 2010, she founded The Tech Tour, which aims at Uncovering how and why we've failed to educate children to high quality standards worldwide.

Abhyuday Agarwal
Co-Founder, iPleaders

He is an lawyer turned entrepreneur. His startup iPleaders is focussing on making practical legal education accessible to the common man, which will radically improve a sense of justice and enable fulfillment of various personal and professional interests. It will also facilitate interaction with lawyers for the layperson, who is generally skeptical of lawyers today and considers the legal system to be a painful territory to navigate.
