First-Ever Startup Weekend E-Commerce Edition Hits Baghdad

Are you an aspiring entrepreneur who wants to start a business in the field of E-Commerce?
Sponsored by Zain Iraq, Startup Weekend Baghdad is hosting its first edition event under the theme "E-Commerce". In 52 hours you will meet diverse group of people from different technical and non-technical background to help you shape your idea and make it a real startup.
Through out the event you will learn the essential steps of starting your own business like making the business model canvas, minimal viable product, idea validation, etc...
And we can't forget our amazing group of coaches who will be with around the clock to help keep you on the right track in developing your app, making your marketing plan, validation your idea, etc...

Ammar Ameen
Co-Founder & CEO at MISWAG

Co-Founder and CEO at Miswag.net, Iraq's first e-commerce service. Holds a Master of Information Technology and a B.Sc in Computer Engineering. Left a 4-years full-time Computer Science university lecturer career to establish Miswag and take place in the entrepreneurial society. Currently runs Miswag and is also a tech and business consultant for several businesses including HRiNS, iHorizon and others


Marwan Ahmed
Co-Founder & CEO at Fekastore

Business Development and Marketing professional. He enjoys content writing on Iraq's ecosystem and has been featured on Wamda.com and Entrepreneur.com. Marwan is currently focusing on his start-up Mishwar and is continuously keen on seeking ways to advance entrepreneurship, progressive learning, and untraditional businesses in Iraq.

We deliver bespoke market solutions catered to our customers defined to our market pitched with a fine sharp edge. Canadian-Iraqi who came to Iraq for the first time in 2008 with hopes of entering and revolutionizing the Iraqi market. Struggling to hit sales of $50,000 during the first year & eventually reaching our peak of 8 digits sales figures in 2014 with concrete plans of hitting 9 digit sales figures for 2015 had it not been for the entry of ISIS & recent drops in the prices of oil... keep in mind more than 90% of sales were made to the private sector.


Yazen Al-Timimi
Managing Director at Zain Cash

Managing Director at ZainCash, the first mobile banking solution in Iraq. Yazen has over 10 years of experience in Management Consulting and Digital Commerce in North America and the Middle East with particular focus on Iraq. He has multiple publication on digitizing commerce in the Middle East, including “E-Commerce in the Middle East” and “E-Commerce in Saudi Arabia”  published on Wamda and other publications.


Coaches and Mentors


Mohammed Al-Samarrai
Co-Founder & COO of Easy Bites

Originally from Baghdad - based in Erbil, Mohammed have finished his Ph.D in the UK in Computer Science in 2011, ever since, he have worked as a lecturer in Cihan University - Erbil, worked as a consultant for GIZ (German Development Cooperation) and initiated an internet startup “EasyBites”. Currently part of a big expanding startup in Iraq "Yalla!”, he work in the social media department. However, his main  focus is on his own venture “Moenovo” through which he provides consultancies for some local NGOs and Iraqi startups.


Mustafa Ahmed
Co-Founder & Lead Developer at MAHAW

An 19-year-old iOS and web developer who was born and raised in Baghdad. He works at MAHAW as an iOS and Web Developer.  He is also member at Mu3amala startup. He participated in the first Startup Weekend Baghdad and worked on his own startup with his class mates. Mustafa thinks that everyone should have the courage to follow their heart and intuition


Sabri Monaf
Co-Founder & Lead Developer at d3

A  Computer Science graduate and self taught Android developer, he began his career with S Converter, a new and unique take on units conversion which got the app over 150k downloads and is cited as the best unit converter on Android by many blogs and users. He co-founded Mu3amala and developed its Android App, And also co-founded d3 Studio and is now working the CTO of the company.


Noor Shihab
Co-Founder and CEO at Meteors

Noor is a 22 years old dental student. Despite being a dental student, this didn't stop her from pursuing a career in the thing she loves most which is Graphic Design. She founded her own creative agency and now have partnership with many businesses locally and internationally. 


Mujahed Al-Waisi
Co-Founder & CEO at Alawj Media

Mujahed is a business development enthusiast and filmmaker. He founded his own media company and developed it to be one of the best ones in the country. He also co-founded many startups like Bilweekend, Behance Baghdad, and IraqTD.com. Mujahed believes in starting your own business and not rely on a job that will get you nowhere in the future.
