Educators, entrepreneurs, developers and designers come together to tackle challenges in education and learning. Only one weekend to create a product to solve problems for schools and colleges, students and parents, and all of us, lifelong learners. The winner may just have a real shot at getting education-focused company off of the ground, so come join us!

Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Gary Leyden
Director at NDRC LaunchPad - SPEAKER

Gary is an early stage technology investor. As Director of NDRC LaunchPad, he specialises in helping new ventures to create value propositions that contribute to building repeatable and scalable business models. He has invested in over 100 startups during the last four years, including Soundwave, Boxever, Fieldaware, Logentries, Newswhip, Bizimply and VideoElephant. As an entrepreneur himself, he founded both Computer Gym And Vrising. With a background in the ICT sector, Gary brings a strong customer focus to the organisations with which he works, aligning technical solutions with customer problems. He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and holds an MBA from the Smurfit Graduate School of Business.

Nicholas Hynes
CEO @ SprintFire

Nick is the CEO of SprintFire - a tech team as a service for mobile startups and SME’s. He is a two-time winner of Startup Weekend with both Gymr and Simplifly. Prior to his involvement in startups, Nick was a senior account excutive at where he worked with London based startups.

David Bowles
Delta Partners VC

David Bowles joined Delta in 2012 where he focuses primarily on ICT opportunities in Ireland and the UK.

Following time at IBM and Merrill Lynch, David joined McKinsey & Company Consulting where he advised a wide range of clients including internet start ups, mobile phone operators and private equity firms.

After McKinsey, David joined the senior management team of ezetop as the Head of Online and Head of Product before leaving to advise a number of multi-nationals and start-up companies in the areas of online sales, technology and fund-raising.

David received a Masters in Business from Smurfit Business School, University College Dublin (2007) and a BA Mod in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin (2006).

His background and track record are in strategy, start-ups, research, innovation, fund-raising, management and business development. 

Dr Claire O'Connell
Science Writer and Journalist

Claire is a science writer and journalist. She trained as a scientist - she has a PhD in cell biology from University College Dublin and worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Scotland and Australia. She moved into science journalism in 2005 and she writes for The Irish Times and for Silicon Republic.  She holds a Masters in Science Communication from Dublin City University.

Stephen Moran
Head of R&D, Bank of Ireland

Stephen leads Bank of Ireland's R&D programme in customer technologies. He has over 20 years’ experience with leading MNC's in engineering, research, and technology analyst roles, and is particularly focused on the potential of new platforms to radically alter international trade; improving the customer experience, increasing organisational efficiency, and reducing costs. Stephen holds an honours degree in Physics from Durham University, a postgraduate diploma in Information Systems from DIT and currently serves on the European Banking Federation (EBF) and Euro Banking Association (EBA) blockchain and smart payments taskforces.

Kathryn Parkes
Director of UX & Design at Swrve

Kathryn Parkes is currently Director of UX & Design at Swrve. Formerly she led strategic design and research projects for iQ Content and led the R&D teams at ThirdForce & Electric Paper. She has been designing & developing user-centred interactive experiences for over 19 years, and is a prominent member of the UX community in Dublin.

Gene Murphy
Co-Founder Startup Boost Pre-Accelerator

Gene loves Startups! He is the Co-Founder Startup Boost a global pre-accelerator program for pre seed startups, Co-Organiser Startup Week Dublin and works with startup communities, city's and VC funds to increase opportunities for entrepreneurs.   He has also organised, helped or facilitated over 20 Startup Weekends! Previously he was a Co-Founder of Startup Ireland and Entrepreneur In Residence at Bank Of Ireland.

Kareem Mostafa
Marketing Professional | Customer Experience at LinkedIn

Kareem is a Marketing professional specializing in word of mouth marketing, social selling, and online branding strategy. Lean startup practitioner and promoter passionate about challenging the status quo and embracing unorthodox solutions to everyday customer problems.

He completed a marketing dissertation in Word of Mouth and the triggers that make us talk and spread ideas on, and currently completing a masters in Digital Brand Management.

Over the last 3 years, his areas of experience are Content Marketing Strategy, Brand Awareness, Demand Generation, and Business Development.

Education Psychologist, with expertise in parenting and language learning and one of the organisers of Start Up Galway; Olivia is also CEO of LingoHost; a start up company that specialises in language learning through positive connections with like minded people.

Andy Byrne

Having worked in busy, high stress sales environments I am used to achieving targets under pressure as well as effective time and resource management. I have acquired a great deal of sales experience and training and have used this both in my own sales but also to train others. Until 2012 I was customer operations trainer for Vodafone Ireland as well as their outsourced partners and other call centres across Ireland, before leaving to set up my own IT and sales training business, Definition Training, this later became a large software development house called WeDevelop Limited. I also hosted a popular show on Dublin City FM called UpStarts dedicated to startup and small businesses in Dublin for 2 years.

Jessica Falkenthal
Education Community & Growth Marketing Strategist

Jessica Falkenthal leads growth marketing, community building and experience design for education startups, schools and nonprofits. She serves on the SXSW EDU Launch Advisory Board and CUE SF Board.
Jessica loves creating engaging education experiences and  previously managed a dozen online learning communities, coached early-stage education entrepreneurs, grew the Startup Weekend Education program worldwide, founded her own education startup, led professional development workshops for hundreds of educators, and designed and taught technology classes for the Boys and Girls Club and 4-H Youth Development programs. She is also a community organizer for the SF Edtech Happy Hour, 4-H, Startup Weekend Education, and Education Startup Digest.
