About Techstars Global Startup Weekend COVID-19 Edition: 

This series of online Techstars Startup Weekends are run at a country level, focused on developing solutions that directly tackle COVID-19-related challenges. They are 54-hour online events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs - you'll connect with amazing mentors, industry experts, founders, and partners who are ready to help you get started. 

Each country will bring together hundreds or even thousands of participants that will work on prototypes for three days. This event is not only about bringing together developers who can work on software-based solutions for the crisis. It’s an opportunity for everyone interested in the topic to inspire and be inspired and to work together on developing inclusive solutions. Tickets to register your place for the event are completely free but you are able to make a donation, which will go to an organization selected by the organizing team, tackling the COVID-19 crisis. If you wish to make a donation, simply add any amount you wish to donate to the ‘Donation’ ticket option.

Kick starting the SW Live on Youtube
Kick starting 'The Everything You Need To Know Session' on our Youtube Live channel at Startup Weekend Ireland, where we will be doing a run through of what Startup Weekend is and what you will be getting up to over the next 54 hours! Live link will be shared with attendees later.

Teams Form
Teams start forming and discussing ideas.


8:00 pm
First Check In
Ready to meet your teams Champion Facilitator? Each idea is assigned a champion facilitator to make sure you get the help you need throughout the weekend. Between 8pm-9pm on Friday they will help their teams they have been assigned to finish off building out their team and get them started!

Begin Work
Start taking an inventory of skills on your team and laying out the work that needs to be done over the weekend. As this is happening online you can continue to work for as long you want which means, no curfews!

Saturday April 25th

Morning Yoga (All Levels) with Fiona
Start the day off the right way! We have a 40min Yoga session with Fiona McNamara studio owner of Dublin City Hot Yoga scheduled for Saturday morning. All you will need is an open space and either a yoga mat or a large towel. All levels are welcome for this energising morning wake up yoga session!

Get Yourself Set Up!
Grab some breakfast, check-in with your team, read through your email we have sent you on tools and resources! This is a, do what you need to do to set yourself up for the day, time slot.

Morning Youtube Live and Workshop
Our host Gene Murphy will be walking you through what you can expect from Saturday. This will lead straight into a workshop on 'The Lean Canvas Model' which is a vital framework for getting started and will luckily be hosted by the amazing David Cunningham founder of 36tdata.

Before mentor arrival check-in, status reports, call for help with your assigned Champion Facilitator.

Mentors will be assigned to your teams where they will spend one-to-one time helping you on your idea and solution.

Quick stretch and meditation session with Aisling O'Neill a certified Yoga instructor who just also happens to be on the organising team. Following this you will have an invaluable workshop on 'How to pitch at Startup Weekend' which is being held by Ed Fidgeon-Kavangh, Chief President at Clearpreso. If there is anyone who can help you prepare to give the best pitch of your life (even online) it's this guy right here.

Morning Intro with Gene Murphy our host. Talking through the main points and check list for your Sunday. Get some last minute tips and prepare to knuckle down one last time before submission!

Final Mentor Sessions (optional)
Champion Facilitators and Mentors will be on hand to help all teams for final questions and help. This will be the final mentor session if your team chooses to have one.


11:30 am
Tech Check and Presentation Feedback
We'll have mentors on hand to go through your presentation and give final feedback. It's crucial to have as much of your presentation ready so you're getting feedback on on all of your pitch.


1:00 pm
Pitch Submission
Now it's time to submit all your teams hard work including your pitch and demo by 1pm. Here is where you can sit back and relax as we hand over the work to our expert judging panel.


1:30 pm
Judging Starts!
Our judges will receive your pitches and demos and have to deliberate based on pre-set criteria. Once the judges have made their decision we will send out an email to you all to inform you of who the Top 10 teams are going forward to pitch Live!!

Live pitching from the Final 10
Your team has made it to the finals. Congrats! Now sit back and enjoy as we show you all the Top 10 Final Pitches!

Ed is a pitch consultant who has helped startup clients raise over $20 Million in funding.

He helps his clients to deliver winning presentations that replace the usual “death by powerpoint” style of presentation with one that is simple, clear and engaging.

Having come from a business background he approaches presentations from both a business-sense as well as design standpoint, knowing that for a winning pitch both aspects need to be well thought out.

Alan is a Venture Investment Leader with NDRC where he sources and supports early stage tech startups. He has spent ten years developing early stage startups - strategy towards growth and the investment needed to support that growth. 

He is also a founder of the M1PaymentsCorridor creating a major payments cluster in Ireland.


Conall Laverty
CEO at Wia

Conall Laverty, is the Founder & CEO of Wia, a company that helps property operators turn traditional buildings into smart buildings. The platform is now being used in more than 100 countries and has attracted over €1m in venture capital funding. He is a key figure in the global Internet of Things ecosystem and was recently listed on Forbes 30 Under 30.

Previously Conall was CTO of Big Motive, a creative technology company based in London and Belfast. There he architected and developed products for BBC, Net-a-Porter and Channel 4. He was also Technical Director of Woogie, an innovation consultancy who has worked with Cambridge Silicon Radio, Deezer and startups throughout Ireland. He attained a First Class Honours Masters from Queen’s University Belfast in Computer Games Development. 


Leslie Harris
Managing Director at EIT HEALTH UK-IRELAND

Leslie is the Managing Director of EIT Health UK-Ireland.  EIT Health is a partnership of Europe’s leading health innovators, bringing together industry, academia, entrepreneurs, and payers and providers. They facilitate access to funding, expertise and networks in order to drive innovation in Europe, and work extensively with health-focussed SMEs in Ireland.Prior to EIT Health, Leslie was at Cancer Research UK in a variety of roles, including leading the award-winning Citizen Science programme, which sought to accelerate cancer research by crowd-sourcing data analysis through engaging public-facing apps and games. She also was involved in managing a portfolio of central digital, technology and change projects and managing a national programme of nurse-led health promotion and community engagement activities. Prior to CRUK, she worked as Knowledge and Innovation Manager for Ingeus Deloitte, managing organisation-wide knowledge, innovation and change projects.

Within the last twelve months I've been an active participant of the New Frontiers Programme with Enterprise Ireland. I was also one of the finalists on the Bridge to Mass Challenge where I represented the company in Boston. I have most recently been a participant of the ChangemakersXChange Programme where I engaged in personal and professional development while also developing invaluable relationships with fellow participants located across the world.


Mads Jöhnk Jørgensen

Mads is an Growth Specialist at HubSpot where he consults Nordic startups and scaleups on digital growth strategy. He has an international background from entrepreneurship as a 2-times co-founder, and from venture capital where he has worked in two leading international early-mid stage venture capital funds on raising and setting up investment funds totaling a size of more than $100 million. He holds a Master’s degree in International Business and Communication from Copenhagen Business School.

Brian O'Regan

Raymond Claassen

Paddy Quinlan
Operations Manager - Deliveroo

Paddy is Head of Strategy and Performance for Deliveroo, Europe's fastest growing startup. Over the past three years he's occupied a number of roles including General Manager of Ireland, Head of Operations for Ireland and Growth Manager for Scotland and North East England. Previously he spent almost 5 years in the DCU Ryan Academy, where he evaluated over 3,000 startups and worked with hundreds of companies across all stages of growth. Paddy has been an active member of Dublin's Startup Ecosystem, he curated the Startup Digest Dublin for 2 years and has organised numerous Startup Weekends  and hackathons across the city.  Paddy holds a Masters in Management from Smurfit Business School and a BA in Psychology.

David is the Head of Investors & Speakers at Dublin Tech Summit where he works with connecting embassies, investors and startups with opportunities for investment and trade. David also works at showcasing some of the world's leading technology and business minds on stage and across Dublin Tech Summit digital platforms. David also consults with startups on business strategy and pitching and have reviewed over 1000 startup pitches in the past 3 years. He recently founded Dive In With Watters - new entrepreneurship and business podcast where he dives into conversation with entrepreneurs, investors, and change-makers in the world of startups and enterprise to get their thoughts on what is coming next in their fields.


Sandra Whelan
Chief Operating Officer at VR Education Holdings

Sandra Whelan is Chief Operations Officer at Immersive VR Education. She co-founded the company, alongside her husband, David Whelan in 2014. During that period, Sandra also worked as a Senior Editor and Content Creator for a top ranked virtual reality website, where she developed a strong rapport with key software developers in the industry. Sandra also has significant experience working with large corporations’ contract management and accounts management. Additionally, Sandra was a judging panel member for the Waterford Local Enterprise Irelands Best Young Entrepreneur Competition in 2017 and 2019, where she judged finalists for three National Category Awards; ‘Best Business Idea’, ‘Best Start Up Business’ and ‘Best Established Business’. Sandra is a mentor of the New Frontiers panel where she asses and offers guidance to start up companies. In 2018 she joined the advisory board of Crystal Valley Tech. In March of 2018, Sandra and her team successfully listed VR Education Holdings on the London and Irish Stock Exchange. Following this, Sandra and her husband were the recipients of The Irish Times Business People of the Month Award for March 2018 and finalists for the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2018 under the Emerging Category. Sandra was a finalist in the 2019 Irish Women's Awards which recognises female professionals in all industries.


Collette Doyle

An entrepreneurial and Marketing mind with over 15 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, and creating brilliant and highly motivated teams in both startup and Enterprise Businesses. After recently Managing the merger of Award-Winning Social Media Agency Leading Social, Collette founded Digital Marketing Agency Unfold Digital in order to offer businesses a full-scale digital consultancy service. Founder of The Christina Nobel Social Enterprise Programme and Shortlisted for best CEO for the PWN Global awards 2019. Joseph Lanzillotta
Student Entrepreneurship Program Manager

Joe is the Student Entrepreneurship/Blackstone LaunchPad Programme Manager at Tangent, Trinity's Ideas Workspace. His educational background is in business, specifically entrepreneurship. He has experience in sales and marketing and specialises in early stage startup development. His journey in Dublin's entrepreneurial world began in 2015 when he co-founded Blazer Technologies, a startup aimed at digitising the beekeeping industry. He participated in Trinity College Dublin's LauchBox Accelerator and Enterprise Ireland's New Frontiers phase 2 where he learned that #SavingTheBees is an uphill battle... one he is still fighting today!

Will Ben Sims

Will Ben is a mission-driven social entrepreneur in the wellness industry. A regular guy who wants to raise awareness on the importance of mental wellbeing practices and reduce the stigma of mental illnesses. He is passionate about creating a product that will add value to people's lives and empower users by giving them the tools to improve their daily mental wellbeing.

Will Ben co-founded (with Aimee-Louise Carton) the mental wellness app KeepAppy. KeepAppy is a one-stop-shop for mental wellness practices; educating, cultivating, and empowering users towards a more wellness oriented lifestyle.


Roisin Lyons
Lecturer of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at DCU

Dr. Roisin Lyons is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Dublin City University. She delivers modules related to innovation and business start-up in both DCU, Dublin and in a sister programme in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and has won teaching awards for both posts. Her research focuses on the development of entrepreneurial tendencies in individuals and teams. She directs and publishes the national GUESSS report on student entrepreneurship biannually. Keenly interested in social entrepreneurship and sustainability, Roisin works in an advisory role for the Enactus global social entrepreneurship programme, the School Enterprise Challenge and the national CSR forum. She also judges for the Young Scientist competition annually. 


Lizzy Hayashida

Lizzy Hayashida is the Co-founder & CEO of Change Donations, a micro-donation platform that is reimagining the donation space for charities and non-profits. She spent 8 years working for startups in both New York and San Francisco before moving to Dublin to complete her MBA at Trinity College. 


Conor McGinn
CEO at Akara Robotics

Over the past decade, Conor has led the development of some of the most advanced care robots in the world. The most recent creation is a socially assistive robot called Stevie; Stevie moves around on wheels yet has a humanlike form that enables it to socially interact with people in its vicinity. Its intelligence is governed by an industry-leading AI system which processes data collected from the robot’s many on-board sensors. Co-Founder Startup Boost Pre-Accelerator

Gene loves Startups! He is the Co-Founder Startup Boost a global pre-accelerator program for pre seed startups, Co-Organiser Startup Week Dublin and works with startup communities, city's and VC funds to increase opportunities for entrepreneurs.   He has also organised, helped or facilitated over 20 Startup Weekends! Previously he was a Co-Founder of Startup Ireland and Entrepreneur In Residence at Bank Of Ireland.

Mechanical Engineer, Designer & Innovator (Also Forbes 30 Under 30!)

Colin is an award winning Engineer leading new research in the Energy, Environment, 3D Printing and Innovation fields at UCD. He is completing a PhD in engineering in UCD focusing on improving innovation methodologies using disruptive technologies. He co-founded a social enterprise in 2014, The Rapid Foundation, which aims to disperse 3d printing technology to 3rd world locations and conduct printing workshops with schools in the UK and Ireland. This work won the IMechE 2016 Fritz Schumacher award, making him one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for Europe, JCI’s Ten Outstanding Young People for 2017 and as a 2017 Nissan Generation Next Ambassador.    


Tracey Keogh
Community Manager at Bank of Ireland

Tracy is a co-organiser of Grow Remote, a community project opening up rural areas to companies who hire remotely and people who work remotely.

She is a global facilitator with Techstars Startup Weekend tapping into startup ecosystems across Europe. Previously, Tracy was an early employee in two technology startups, Ex Ordo and Desposify, looking after everything from finance to pitches and tech support.

She currently works in Bank of Ireland having set up their innovation programmes in the west.


David Pollard
Lecturer at Trinity College Dublin

David is the co-founder of Sapien Innovation, an innovation consultancy, and TeamOSV, a NFP with over 3,000-volunteers working on over 40 COVID-19 related projects including an Open Source Ventilator project. The work in these areas has appeared on Forbes, Fortune and New York Times. He lecturers at Trinity College Dublin in Innovation, Creativity and DesignThinking. He also lectures at the National College of Ireland in Technology Enhanced Learning.  He has a role as the Innovation Manager at the Rehab Group, one of Ireland's largest NFP with over 16,000 people with disabilites.  David is a global faciliator with Techstars and is the co-organiser of Startup Week Dublin and over 15 Startup Weekends. 


Serena De Stacpoole
Innovation Consultant - Sylon Solutions

Serena is an innovation and marketing consultant who has a wide range of experience in large corporate and start-up companies. She was previously the Innovation Lead in Aviva Ireland and has held marketing and communication roles in New Ireland (Bank of Ireland Group) and Pioneer Investments. She specialises in helping corporates and SME's bridge gaps in their customer experience through advising on startup partnerships and appropriate design thinking and lean start-up tools and techniques. She has been an organiser and mentor for SWDub for 5 years - having won a few weekends before becoming an organiser. She founded the Order of Malta Knight Run in 2014 which is a weekly soup kitchen for the homeless community in Dublin – in partnership with Dublin Simon Community. She is passionate about Social Entrepreneurship and building long term partnerships.


Kelsey Roberts
MBA Candidate, Harvard Business School

Kelsey has a background in healthcare manufacturing and in running accelerator and incubator programs teaching and coaching entrepreneurs of all kinds.

With these programs, she developed curriculum and worked on building community between entrepreneurs both in person and remotely. 

She has lived and worked across the United States, Ireland, and South Africa with a focus on the global startup ecosystem, and is passionate about using entrepreneurship to fuel job creation and workforce development. She most recently worked for the Techstars Boston Accelerator program prior to beginning graduate school for an MBA, where she is currently.
