Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.
The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.
All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur, register now for the best weekend of your life!

Iman Mutlaq
CEO of Sigma Investments

Iman Mutlaq is a dynamic leader and expert in financial markets, was born in Saudi Arabia. She is determined to rise above all circumstances, having erased the words “I Cannot” from her vocabulary at the age of 14 when she started selling arts and crafts at school. Quick to realize her skill, she moved on to found her first export-import company at 18 and by 27, entered the financial world, starting companies across the Middle East and North Africa. She currently serves as CEO of Sigma Investments and the director of Ingot Brokers, multinational financial companies that operate out of 57 offices in 25 countries across six continents.
Iman knows that building successful companies begins with the will to work and succeed.  Challenge, she has found, has always served to open her to new possibilities and reserves of strength. While she delayed her undergraduate studies to manage her responsibilities, she returned and successfully completed an MBA in finance and most recently her Chief Financial Analyst level one examination. Iman is also part of the Global Alliance Partners, a network of regulated financial services companies focusing on the capital midmarket.

Iman finds her strengths in analyzing and interpreting financial market trends to build appropriate investment strategies. Her strong technical and analytical skills have helped numerous investors accumulate wealth. She is also a true leader and a team player who continuously inspires her team to find creative ways to achieve objectives and reach their full potential.
When asked how she manages to do it all, Iman confesses her secret: unconditional giving and love, what she gleaned after joining the Art of Living Foundation, an educational and humanitarian movement engaged in stress-management and service initiatives launched by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. She became the first instructor for the Foundation in Jordan and soon the President of the International Association for Human Values, an NGO associated with the Art of Living, which was launched in 1997 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Geneva, to promote peace and development by strengthening leaders. Iman focuses on women’s empowerment, knowing that it is central to accelerating the peace, stability and security of nations. She is currently implementing six programs in Iraq supporting 400 women to advance in their careers and contribute to the economic growth of the country.
In August 2014, Iman was named one of the most powerful women in Jordan . In early 2014, Iman and a team from Jordan scaled Mount Kilamanjaro to raise funds for the King Hussein Cancer Foundation. The group raised $1.3 million for cancer research.
Recognizing her professional accomplishments, the Obama Administration invited Iman, among a few entrepreneurs from the Middle East, to attend the inaugural White House Entrepreneurship Summit in 2010 where she met with former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the late Ambassador Holbrooke and discussed ways to accelerate women’s empowerment in Afghanistan and across the Middle East.
Ms. Mutlaq lives and teaches how to achieve balance and walks her talk. She believes that power is to have the courage to live the life you want to live and the right to choose while inspiring and helping unconditionally the people around you. Her favorite quote? “Love is not an emotion, it is your very existence” – Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Ms. Mutlaq Iman is the president of the International Association for Human Values in Jordan were she can support and empower women across the Middle East , as well as she is one of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation board of directors in Jordan.
