Rodney Carew
Project Leader

Rodney is currently a Project Leader at Open Capital Advisors, a financial and strategic advisory firm headquartered in Nairobi.

Since joining Open Capital in 2013, he has led projects in education, healthcare, financial services, agribusiness, and ICT across several countries in East and Southern Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, and Ethiopia. Rodney also co-leads Open Capital's internal Education Initiative. 

Prior to joining Open Capital, Rodney worked for Wipro Limited, a global consulting and outsourcing firm, where he helped develop an enterprise-wide internal communication platform and HR repository for the largest electronics retailer in the US. He has also worked for The Albireo Group, a management consulting firm for social-purpose organizations. 

Rodney is from Freetown, Sierra Leone and has lived in Kenya and the US. He holds a B.A. in Political Science & International Studies from Northwestern University and M.A. in Management from Wake Forest University School of Business

Lewis McGregor

Lewis worked with businesses in Kenya intermittently for two years before co-founding swivelBOX. He has worked as an Environmental and Innovation Consultant, where he has gained a strong knowledge of the power of branding. Lewis has a BSc in Product Design and Technology, from which he draws design thinking principles to apply to swivelBOX workshops, and he is a GradIED member. He has a huge interest in personal development, including productivity and happiness, and the way behavioural change and a balanced lifestyle can bring success in personal or business ventures.

Nabeel Hassanali
Business Advisor

Nabeel is a business builder with extensive experience in business advisory, enterprise, talent development, and capacity building. Nabeel founded Genesis Consult – a management advisory and consulting firm based across East Africa servicing family businesses, multinationals, governments and non-profit organizations. With extensive experience across 10+ countries in Africa, he has previously advised over 60+ clients across 10+ industries. Nabeel is also an Executive Advisor to various SMEs across Africa, and a business coach with various organizations. As an active Board Member, he supports the growth of for-profit and non-profit enterprises in Africa. In 2012, Nabeel was recognized as ‘New Generation Leader for Africa.’ In the following year, he was acknowledged amongst the ‘Leading Under-30 Entrepreneurs’ in Tanzania.

Muthuri Kinyamu
Programme Coordinator

Since graduating with a Bachelors of commerce and marketing major from the University of Nairobi in 2010, Muthuri has worked with an array of early stage companies and key stakeholders in Africa’s vibrant startup and tech ecosystem. Prior to joining Nest he worked at Brand 2D, a leading African creative and digital agency, managing social media content and communities for big brands and also ABC Bank Kenya as a digital marketing officer. He also co-founded two EdTech companies and a social media agency in Nairobi. With the goal of supporting entrepreneurs and developing SMEs he spent two years at one of East Africa’s premier accelerators helping over 80 social enterprises and 170 founders create, refine, and execute their business strategy. @MuthuriKinyamu is a polar bear from Africa and through his role at Nest hopes to help companies scale into, across and out of Africa.

I manage the teams at Eneza and lead the R&D team. I have expertise in impact assessment , program and curriculum design and project management of tech projects. At iHub I published several publications in mobile governance, education and technology authored a book chapter in e-governance. In my spare time you can find me applying Design Thinking processes to ICT programs in education and water sector in Kenya, as well as facilitating Hackathon events.

Edwin Openda
Operations & Technology Lead @ KnownAfrique LLP

Mr. Openda, with background in Information Technologies holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. He currently leads Technology projects and operations at KnownAfrique.   In Italy, he was involved in Mobile Applications projects at Telecom Italia and Robust communications for Gruppo Torinese Trasporti(GTT). After Italy, he moved to London through a UK government (UKTI) backed initiative aimed at bringing talented graduate entrepreneurs from all over the world to relocate and establish new businesses in the UK. He then co-founded the world's first portable phone battery network based in London.   Backed by his diverse and rich experience in the Startup world, he has lead various projects from ideation to product/Market-fit stages.  At KnownAfrique, he leads the Law App project aimed to provide easier access to legal help. It can be likened to “uber for lawyers”.

Timothy Orieodo

Nina Werner

Nina Werner has quite the international profile. Having Swedish parents but a mother born and raised in Kenya, Nina was raised in France, although born in Switzerland. She studied for her Bachelor in Life Science in Lausanne, Switzerland, and now holds an MSc in Management, Technology and Economics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. The travel bug caught her in her early years and hasn't left her so far. Having travelled to most European countries, India, and China, she finally decided to move to Tanzania in 2010 and pursue the amazing opportunities that this country has to offer. Along the way, she got the opportunity to be part of Mara Foundation and bring this very unique organisation to Africa’s entrepreneurs. As the company has developed and grown, Nina is now focusing on Mara Online, Mara’s tech company developing apps and platforms such as Mara Mentor, an online mentorship platform, and Mara Messenger, a messaging app. Nina is based in Nairobi, Kenya and is the Head of Roll-Outs ensuring all activities in our countries of operations run smoothly. Mara Online’s current countries of operations are Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa and is planning to grow further in the next few months.
