Startup Weekend JB at UTM is a 54-hour event where students from technical and non-technical background come together to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups!

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.

The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on a idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur.

In 2004, while doing an MBA in International Marketing at the PHW Graduate School of Business, Switzerland, Evelyn added Strategic Management (Higher Professional Level, Cambridge University U.K.) to her academic credentials. It was earned for evidence of her work in steering a company towards profitability through leveraging on technology, during the Asian Currency Crisis during which many other companies folded. Since 2011 she has been sought after as a mentor to early-stage startups, guiding them in developing solid foundations for sustainable businesses. She was on the startup team of MaGIC (Malaysian Global Innovation Centre), assisting its founding CEO with creating a Brand Identity as a full-service resource centre for entrepreneurs based in Malaysia. Evelyn was a regular resource person for StartUp Malaysia, speaking and mentoring regularly at StartUp weekends and other events for entrepreneurs, and judging at pitching competitions. She mentored the Manglish Decoders at DCode 2013 (600 international participants) towards winning a 2-week immersion camp in Sillicon Valley designed by YouNoodle. Evelyn was a local facilitator in the Education track of the Mega Startup Weekend (300 ASEAN participants) which heralded the opening of MaGIC by the President of the U.S. as well as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, and mentored one of the teams towards winning 3rd place top prizes by iterating its original idea. UpGlobal provided the international facilitators. She is an award-winning innovator in her own right, and has been recognized publicly for her pioneering work in developing a system for learning using mobile devices. She won research-based awards from University Malaya in 2006, 2007, and 2010 for her work in transforming teaching and learning.
