The professional and personal challenge, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend Johor Bahru @ UTM is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. This year, we will have 15 experienced and awesome mentors along with 5 cool judges to assist you in rocking your ideas! With our theme of Future Campus, we are looking for innovative ideas that are sustainable and green in from all perspectives.

Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and community leaders

Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Abdul Wahab
CEO at GiniTechnologies Sdn Bhd

Abdul Wahab Start-up founder of VRgini, a virtual reality company that provides VR footages for real estate. VRgini is a platform which offers everyone a simple and smart way to create VR solutions, making it accessible to anyone anywhere and anytime. Innovative dreamer and self-taught Virtual Reality programmer with 7 years of experience in producing innovative solutions using technology. Graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Engineering Degree majoring in Petroleum and minoring In Product Design.

Edwin Loh
CEO/Co-Founder of The Xpress Train

Edwin Loh is a serial entrepreneur and marketeer with experience in a wide variety of industries like: Food & Beverage, Fashion, Advertising, E-commerce, Education and Logistics. Edwin is currently CEO/Co-Founder of The Xpress Train (a Venture Builder), SuperLilo (a free photo printing and delivery platform), Summer (Vending Machine Restaurants) and Magic Mirror (an AI and AR driven make-up course). Edwin received his education in National University of Singapore where, as President of his Faculty, he ran a multitude of projects and students' activities. He believes in an active lifestyle and is passionate about sports, travel and films. He is deeply involved with the local activities in Johor and would like to contribute to promote Johor wherever and whenever possible.





Coaches and Mentors


Feng Lim
Cofounder

Feng is a startup founder and active community builder in Malaysia. His work involves building a thriving & sustainable startup ecosystem, operating coworking spaces & managing startup programs in the southern region of Malaysia. Graduated from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK, Feng specialise in business structuring, taxation & financial management. However, he decided to given up the opportunity being in the professional body or corporate world to strive into entrepreneurship & startups world. When he's not working, he can be found in one of the best coffee place in town.


Mohd Iskandar Illyas Tan
CEO at HOLISTIC Lab Sdn Bhd

Our next mentor is Dr Iskandar Ilyas, the CEO of HOLISTIC Lab Sdn Bhd and also a senior lecturer the Deputy Chairman of UTM– Halal Consortium (UTM-HC), an entity that manages the research and development activities in halal science and technology at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr Iskandar founded HOLISTICS Lab Sdn Bhd, a UTM spin-off company to focus on the aspects of commercialization of Halal technology. One of the innovations that has been developed is QuikHalal, the world's first cloud-based mobile halal auditing application. QuikHalal is able to expedite the halal auditing process and improve the productivity and efficiency of internal and external halal auditors and accelerate the halal certification process. HOLISTICS Lab is also a certified training provider for JAKIM Halal Professional Board training programs. Dr Iskandar has received numerous awards including the Halal Hi-Tech Challenge 2015 and received a grant from UTM and PlatCOM Venture. In addition, he has been accredited by various agencies in Malaysia and received assistance from Halal Hub Division, JAKIM, Penang Islamic Affairs Department, Penang International Halal Hub, Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Center (MaGIC), Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia to further develop QuikHalal.

Mallory Loone
Entrepreneur, Mentor and Personal Development Coach

Mallory finds it meaningful to seed inspiration within young people and allow them to see the possibilities of unleashing their potentials.

Currently, Mallory is taking a break before pursuing her next ventures and looking to mentor more young talents along the way. But prior to this, she was CEO and co-founder of Thriving Talents Pvt. Ltd, a Talent Development company and together with her team, they have grown the company to a level that serviced Fortune 500 companies such Microsoft, General Electric, 3M and Petronas as well as crossed borders to countries like Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, India, Indonesia and London. As the CEO of Thriving Talents, she was recognized as the Top 100 Global Training & Development Coach of the Year in the World, by the World Human Resources Congress, which surprised the Human Resources industry, as she too was the Youngest Winner this year.


Azfarazie Amirolzakri
Founder and Chief Experience Officer of Work Inspires Consultancy

Well known for his ability in Creating Experiences for Clients, Azfarazie has worked with many Fortune 500 companies to create memorable and impactful Learning & Development, as well as Team Building Sessions. Some of his past work has been with great companies like 3M, Petronas, Wipro Unza, General Electric, Prudential and many more both locally and Abroad. One of his key highlight was creating a Masterclass attended by CEOs, Head of Departments, Managers aimed to bridge the gap between Leaders and their people, especially Millennials and a Employer Branding Transformation that featured a nationwide competition for an established property development company in Malaysia. Azfarazie has also ventured extensively in the areas of Customer Service and Fitness Coaching for the past 6 years

He is currently with Work Inspires Consultancy Talent Engagement Consultant that Empower one's Talents with
L&D, Team Bonding, & Employer Branding solutions that are Interactive, Customisable, & Sustainable.


Arif Tukiman
CEO & Founder Cool Code Sdn Bhd, RunCloud Inc

Experienced Chief Executive Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the information technology and services industry. Skilled in Research, Management, Game Development, and Business Development. Strong business development professional with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) focused in Information Technology Entrepreneurship from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.


Che Fai Yeong
Co-Founder and Director at DF Automation and Robotics Sdn Bhd

Che Fai, YEONG graduated with PhD from Imperial College London. He is serving as a Director for his spin-off company DF Automation & Robotics Sdn Bhd. He is also a senior lecturer in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

He is an entrepreneur with having founded a few companies and has led the companies to achieve some recognitions including Finalist in Alliance Bank Biz Smart Innovation Challenge, one of the Top performance company in Cradle Coach and Grow program, MaGIC MAP program and MaGIC e@Stanford program.

His name is well-associated also with robotics and inventions in Malaysia as he has won more than 50 awards nationally and internationally including World Invention Award at British Invention Show, Korea Inventor Award Festival, Innovate Malaysia, Philips Young Inventor Challenge and others. He also has been team instructor and team advisor for UTM Robocon team for 7 years and represented Malaysia to Thailand, Korea, China, Thailand and Hong Hong.

He is also a frequent technical and motivational speaker for series of subjects including 'Robotics'​, 'Embedded System'​, 'Entrepreneurship Mindset'​ and How to win competition?'.
