Your idea in 54 hours

Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What do you need to bring?

Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend long experience. Your ticket includes:
  • 7 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
  • Benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • One-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
  • All the internet and coffee you can consume.

Ashweein Narayanan
Executive Director

After completing some time working outside of Kuching, Ashweein came to the bitter realization that much of Sarawakian's talents and human capital is not maintained and preserved in Sarawak, leaving much of our intellectual resources to be better utilized/exploited elsewhere. In an attempt to change the mindset and create a reason to retain our talent, he decided to leave his oil and gas engineering job and return to Kuching to change the youth scene. He decided to do this while running his family businesses, and to bring the businesses to new horizons while working to synergize well with local partners and skilled workforce.

One of his businesses is Amogha Tours and Travel Sdn Bhd, a tour-agent/consultancy that has recently won the Chief Minister's Industry Excellence Award (CMIEA) 2017 for outstanding performance in the Tourism Industry.

He is also a stand-up comedian, spoken-word artist, poet, and involved in youth initiatives such as giving entrepreneurial talks as well as being one of the founding member of HAUS Kch, an arts and community-driven project in Kuching.

Fiona Marcus
Managing Director

Fiona Marcus Raja is a passionate and dedicated entrepreneur. Her persistence and hard work have already made her one of the most promising young businesswomen in Kuching. Fiona established her first profitable enterprise, the NailMeGood Nail Patio, when she was only 22 years old. A year later, she turned a money-losing business into the Sarawak River Cruise, one of Kuching’s best-known tourism ventures. At 25, Fiona teamed up with her friends to spearhead Back2Back Ideas and Borneo International Exhibition Sdn Bhd, two linked companies that together have become one of the fastest-growing event and conference planning businesses in Sarawak. Fiona’s entrepreneurial journey was forced to a sudden halt in July 2014, when her two-year-old son Royce was diagnosed with cancer. Royce’s care became her first priority, one that required her family to seek lengthy and expensive medical care overseas. Fiona sold both NailMeGood and Sarawak River Cruise to further fund Royce’s treatments. Two years later Fiona came back to Malaysia, her entrepreneurial zeal now fortified with a powerful childhood cancer survival story. She revived her event and conference business, and began new ventures in the construction (JVC Utama Sdn Bhd), events & conference management company (Borneo International Exhibition Sdn Bhd)and digital marketing (Orion Social Media Sarawak Sdn Bhd) industries. Fiona is currently creating the 11 Ridgeway Event and Community Space, a venue in Kuching designed to inspire people from all walks of life to work and plan together. 11 Ridgeway will also be the birthplace for the Royce Cancer Foundation, devoted to building awareness of children’s cancer and support for the people who, like Fiona herself, are the caregivers of children struck with this dreadful disease.
