Startup Weekend Maldives Womens - Keevve Nuvaanvee?

The Techstars Startup Weekend Maldives – Womens Edition is to be commenced on 4th May and will go until 6th May 2018, organized by the Techstars Community Leaders in the Maldives, supported by Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives Pvt Ltd, Male’ Aerated Water Company (MAWC), ALIA Investments Pvt Ltd and UNDP Youth Co:lab. Techstars Startup Weekend is a 54-hour weekend event, during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic designers and more pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, or presentation by Sunday evening. In case you are unfamiliar with Startup Weekend and Techstars – the former is a global network of passionate entrepreneurs and leaders (www.startupweekend.org) aimed towards creating a highly motivating weekend filled with enthusiastic, smart and passionate people assembled under one roof with a single motive, i.e., to assist in creating or funding the next best startup. Startup Weekend hosts entrepreneurs to build startups in more than 1,000 events per year in 150+ countries. Techstars is a worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed. Through the Techstars Worldwide Entrepreneur Network, founders and their teams connect with other entrepreneurs, experts, mentors, alumni, investors, community leaders and corporate partners who will help their companies grow and allow entrepreneurs to accelerate the pace of innovation and do more faster. Mariyam Visam
Registrar of Companies (RoC) of Maldives

Ms. Visam assumed the position of Registrar of Companies in January 2014. Her area of responsibility includes Business Registration, Foreign Direct Investments and economic policy formulation.

She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA).

She has over 12 years of experience in economic affairs and financial sector.

Ms. Visam contributes to the academia by facilitating training programs, postgraduate courses in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Corporate Governance, Risk Management & Business Ethics.

MS. Visam holds a Master’s Degree in Business Economics from University of Queensland, Australia.

Raheema Adam
Founder Member - Association for Lady Entrepreneurs

Raheema Adam, (National Award winner 2016 for Women Rights and Progress) started business in tourism sector in 1997 by operating guesthouse, which was a very challenging business for a woman during the time. She is a dedicated hard working woman, successfully operated two guest houses, Maagiri Tourist Lodge and Abalone Tourist Inn the capital island Malé for a period of seventeen years. She was operating a printing outlet for Nine years continuously. She received Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship in the SAARC Region for year 2006, which was awarded by the Sri Lankan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and industries for the SAARC region. She started working for women empowerment in 2004 starting from the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industries. She is the founder of Association of Lady Entrepreneurs, (ALE) working for the economic empowerment of women in Maldives with 215 members in different atolls. Educating women in entrepreneurship and working for women’s financial independency. She conducts different programs for empowering women and employees from government and private sector. She studied higher Education in Masters in Business Administration and Completed different programs from business including strategic planning and implementation of Associations from Germany’s “Winter school” which is a highly recognized program in Germany. And completed the training of trainer’s certification in National Institute of Small and Medium Enterprises, Hyderabad, India and continuously training working women from the atolls for entrepreneurship development. She’s an elected member to the Council for economic empowerment of women (CEEW) by HE. President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom for developing the women entrepreneurs and she is a Business Council member of Ministry of Economic Development. Internationally she works in the women empowerment network for the SAARC countries with the World Bank since 2012 and she is a Mentor Alumni for Cheri Blair Foundation for women, United Kingdom.

Abdulla Ghiyas
Deputy Managing Director at Inner Maldives Holidays

Abdulla Ghiyaz Riyaz is a young energetic disrupter in the Maldivian tourism industry who has been instrumental in changing the tourism landscape in the last few years by giving a voice to all Small Medium Enterprises in the industry.

He is the Deputy Managing Director of Inner Maldives Holidays, one of the largest inbound and outbound travel agency in Maldives. He is also a Director for Ace Travels Maldives and Spence Maldives, which are joint ventures with Sri Lankan blue chip conglomerate Aitken Spence PLC. Having 14 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry, Abdulla was the youngest Board Director of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) from 2014 to 2017. He was also named by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Maldives as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Maldives in 2010 for his role in business turnaround in Inner Maldives Holiday and also named PATA Face of the Future 2018. Abdulla also contributes to the Consulate of the Republic of Seychelles to the Maldives as the Deputy. 

Abdulla Ghiyas, also served as the President of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) – one of the most active NGOs in the Maldives dedicated to fostering and promoting the sub industry of local travel agents.

Fareeha Shareef
Co-Founder/Director - FJS Consulting Pvt Ltd

Ms. Fareeha currently holds the position of Executive Director at FJS Consulting Pvt Ltd. She has also been an Independent Consultant of Adam Smith International since 2012.Ms Fareeha has professional experience in various fields such as auditing, accountancy, financial management and governance. In addition, she has vast experience in financial modeling, including banking, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and socioeconomic research in Maldives and in the international arena.

Sana Mansoor
Managing Partner - FJS Associates LLP

Sana is a Certified Practicing Accountant from CPA Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from Griffith University of Australia. She is also a licensed auditor from Auditor General’s Office of Maldives and a Category ‘1’ MIRA Licensed Tax Agent. Sana brings over 25 years of experience in the field of Accounting. Prior to joining FJS Associates LLP, she was the Chief Financial Officer of State Trading Organization PLC. She also served on the Board of Directors of STO from November 2008 to May 2012. She joined STO on May 1988 and has held a number of senior positions during her tenure. Furthermore, she served on the Boards of STO Lanka Pvt Ltd and Maldives Structural Products Pvt Ltd, and has held the post of Chairperson of Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives. She has also served on the Board of Maldives Stock Exchange Company Pvt Ltd and Maldives Securities Depository Company Pvt Ltd.

Immi Saleem
Creative Manager

Immi Saleem is a creative design enthusiast from the Maldives, having worked and collaborated with various corporate companies in the Maldives, previously serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Blak Pvt Ltd.

Immi currently works as an Art Director at Think Advertising. She loves a good challenge and has created, and continues to create designs for ad campaigns, events, expos and organizations — both in the private & public sectors.

She holds a BA in Creative Advertising & Graphic Design from Curtin University, Australia. 

Junaina Ahmed
Legal Expert

Juna is an experienced associate at one of the Maldives' leading commercial firms, Shah, Hussain & Co. Barristers and Attorneys. She has recently acted as the national legal expert for the Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Development Project at the Ministry of Economic Development. During her time with the Project, Juna focused on introducing legal reforms targeted at ease of business, and creating legal awareness in the SME community.

Aiesha Adnan
Consultant Software Analyst & Technocrat

Aishath Adnan is a highly enthusiastic and self-motivated project management professional and a software analyst experienced in managing Teams and delivering IT solutions that helps to radically redesign the organizational process for increasing efficiency and profit.

With years of experience in leading IT projects and software development teams, actively mentoring and training in the ICT field.

Co-Founder of Women In Tech Maldives, a non-profit organization working to inspire, empower and celebrate women in science and Technology. Also currently working as a Deputy Manager at Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives.

Shahuza Abdul Kareem
Software Engineer at Villa Shipping and Trading Co

Shahuza hold a B.Sc in Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Bangalore. She is currently working as a Software Engineer at Villa Shipping and Trading Co, and was the Head of Application Development section at MIRA before that. She has over five years of experience working as a programmer.

Sheeza Imad
Director & Owner - Cyza Salon

Born 06 February, 1958, Sheeza Imad has had a long career in the hair and beauty profession now for almost 30 years. With an initial training of 6 months, she has expanded her skill base with more international training received from several countries including Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Germany, UK, Singapore, and Australia. She is expert in the hair and beauty sector and of the attendant beauty establishment management. Before serious entry to this profession, Sheeza also spent about 5 years as a nurse at the Government Hospital in Male.   She had demonstrated a mature managerial quality and has transferred this approach to her staff at her hair and beauty salon in Male where she has extremely low staff turnover and she makes it a challenge to recruit and train Maldivians for her Salon and utilizing innovative resource sharing options.   She has been a lead in women’s empowerment activities in Maldives for quite bit of the past – a member of the women’s wing of the chamber of commerce; Chairman of a women’s youth NGO “Jinsullatheefunge-rooh” several years ago, and a counsel to many women with social and family problems. Presently she is the Director and owner of “Cyza Salon” in Male.   In a 6-year sojourn in New Delhi, India from 2006-2012, she established Cyza Beauty and Fashions Pvt Ltd and under it Cyza Salon – New Delhi, where she trained all her staff, most of them from the very basics, and who are now successful hair and beauty experts well settled in this profession in New Delhi.   This present endeavor of the NGO “Working Women for Economic Development – Maldives (WED) is an effort that focuses on both home-based and non-home-based women’s involvement in economic empowerment.

Fathimath Afiya
Women Entrepreneurship Consultant

Fathimath Afiya has extensive experience of 30 years working in various capacities in the Government, Non-governmental, private and the corporate sector. She has experience working directly with UN Agencies, ADB, WHO, IFRC and Red Cross Agencies, Foreign Diplomatic Missions and other INGOs. Afiya has taught Diploma /Post Graduate students at International Business Services, Avid College and Clique College. Some of the modules that she has lectured include Project Management, Marketing, Leadership and Personal Development. Afiya has developed modules on economic development, legal rights of women, and financial management training on women for Maldivian Network on Women’s Rights (MNVAW), Ministry of Economic Development and other Institutions.  Afiya has run her own businesses in partnership with her husband in UK from 2010 to 2014. She also run her own training business called Ulaa Business Academy (UBA) and a joint partnership business in organising logistics called Ulaa International Pvt Ltd with two other businesswomen.   Afiya has provided mentoring services to women who pursue their Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business on their assignments and final projects. She also provides mentoring services to develop business plans, financial planning, proposal writing and business related guidance.

Naail Abdul Rahman
Tech Driven Startup Entrepreneur

Managing Partner at Intellea Partnership, software development firm responsible for some of the most popular mobile apps in the market. An experienced software engineer with over 8 years in the software industry, and more than 5 primarily as an Android developer.
Naail is available to offer insight into tech driven startups, particularly his unique perspective on how to effectively expand and grow your business into the mobile market.

Zainal Arif
Managing Director at Lotus Fihaara

Managing Director at Lotus Fihaara, previously their Procurement and Marketing Manager, with 7 years experience in managing consumer brands in the Maldives. In this time he has worked to introduce and market leading household brands such as Antabax, Biscolata, Cavin’s and Gery. 

Co-founder of Publicity Bureau, a marketing and design firm where their most recent works include the branding and design of campaigns such as  the Gender Equality Manifesto 2018 and Knowledge on Law Initiative.

Anurag Maloo is an Indo-Asian startup innovation Community Architect. As a Regional Manager for South & Central Asia with Techstars and Startup Weekend, he is responsible for the cultivation and sustained growth of vibrant startup ecosystems in India, SAARC nations (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives) and Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan).
