Music & Sound Edition

Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event where developers, creators, designers, marketers, product managers, startup enthusiasts and more come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups! Startup Weekend is a weekend-long, hands-on experience where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable.

This edition will carry the theme of Music and Sound. The definition of sound is: mechanical vibrations transmitted through an elastic medium, traveling in air at a speed of approximately 331 meters per second at sea level. Sounds great, doesn’t it? But sound is so much more than just a bunch of mechanical vibrations. Sound makes us individuals. Sound provides you with information about the world around you.

“In a world without sound some of history’s greatest words would not have been heard.”

For some people sound stands equal to music. Music is the art which solely relies on sound and is the most powerful form of sound. Sound is also much more. Imagine the importance of the crying of a newborn baby for his parents and what does sound mean for someone who is not able to hear anymore?

What can you build, with Music and Sound in one weekend?

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees are encouraged to bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams design products and services, building prototypes as they go, whilst developing business models and plans too. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes to the audience and jury, listen to feedback from the judges and win prizes.

Startup Weekends are specifically designed for (aspiring) entrepreneurs interested in receiving feedback on an idea, looking for a co-founder, or who want to learn a new skill. We also welcome anyone looking to test the entrepreneurial waters. Startup Weekends are risk-free environments where everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves and dive into the exhilarating world of startups.

Wout Laban

My name is Wout, I am very passionate about creating new opportunities in and around education, for people, companies and communities. Always keeping an eye out to share knowledge and create valuable connections along the way. Over the past two years I’ve done so for our Startup Gibbon a platform that helps companies share knowledge, educate employees and create a culture of learning.
I’m very engaged in the the startup scene in Amsterdam where I organise different meetups around community management, host workshops about customer development and organise Startup Weekend. Next to that I facilitate Startup Weekends around Europe as often as I can. A great way to learn and connect with the different entrepreneurial ecosystems around the world.
