Startup Weekend Karachi is HERE! Start brainstorming your ideas and get ready to show yourself as a new Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or Zuckerberg

Startup Weekend is a global grass root movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, 
Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe come together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

This year it is even bigger. On the dates, 20th -22nd of November 2015, more than 100 cities will be participating in the Global Startup Battle and Karachi will be a part of it. This means that the finalists from Karachi will be up for big prizes.

Speakers


Adam Dawood
Adam Dawood Co-Founder & Managing Director, Kaymu Pakistan

Adam Dawood is an industry expert on e-commerce and is closely associated with incubating various startups. Heading one of the biggest e-commerce ventures in the country, Adam seeks to enable and empower entrepreneurs across the country to bring their businesses online.    He was a core member of the initial team that successfully launched Daraz.pk, the success of which allowed Rocket Internet to bring in more e-commerce ventures to Pakistan. Later, Adam founded his own company DYL Ventures, a startup consultancy providing guidance and services to entrepreneurs and startups.  Adam holds a Bachelors in Finance from Durham University in UK and an MBA from Tsinghua University in China. He authored The Pakistan Startup Report that was prepared in collaboration with the World Startup Report in 2014. Additionally, he writes extensively on the startup and e-commerce industry and has also curated a weekly newsletter, Tech Week in Pakistan.

Organizational Development Professional & Entrepreneur

Sumair Abro is a seasoned management & organizational development specialist and facilitator at Funverks. He brings with him over 17 years of diverse professional experience from across Pakistan, UK, and USA.


Veqar Islam
Director and Chief Executive at Jaffer Business Systems

He is the Director and CEO of Jaffer Business Systems, a Major IT company, having HP, Emersson, Oracle, Microsoft as its key partners. In addition, He is  also the President of Touchpoint Group, offering Self Service, Business Intelligence/Analytics services, Call Center Solutions (based on Genesys), and VAS Platforms. Prior to this, he was the Senior Vice President and Member Executive Board for Comptel Corporation. He  have also held position of Sub Region Head (Vice President) for Nokia Siemens Networks for Gulf, Levant, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan. Before moving to the MEA region, He  was the Country Director for Nokia Networks, Nokia Siemens Networks and NCR Corporation in Pakistan.

Zahir Syed
Co Chairman at MIT Enterprise Forum of Pakistan

Over 30 years of professional experience in senior management positions. Have experience of working in a number of sectors that includes Education, IT, Social, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Have experience of running and teaching in a Degree Awarding Institute, Development of Strategy, Plans and Policies; Drafting Legal Contracts; in Designing and Conducting Business Plan Competitions, Designing and Implementing IT Solutions, Process Improvement, Project Management, Quality Assurance and Software Development. In this connection, have been involved in conducting 12 Business Plan Competitions, was member of the working group that prepared the “National Innovation Policy of Pakistan”, have organized a National Computer Conference, SEARCC '94 and headed the Computer Society of Pakistan committee that prepared the second draft of the “National IT Policy of Pakistan.

Hashim Yasin

Being a seasoned professional in multiple industries and a tech-fanatic with outrageous love for latest gadgets, Hashim is a genetically carved entrepreneur who has been a founding pillar of multiple Startups for past 6 years. In 2014, he converted his passion for tech to full-time profession and co-founded Aplos Innovations where he is currently looking after client communications, financial planning and marketing.

He is an active participant and organizer of TED Events and because of his passion for true Entrepreneurship he has been facilitating Startup Weekend Karachi for the past 3 years and frequently provides mentoring and guidance to budding entrepreneurs.
