Startup Weekend is BACK in Karachi!

Startup Weekend is a global movement of entrepreneurs who learn the basics of founding and launching successful startup ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs, with events in over 100 countries and 580 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe come together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

So if you have a good idea with the drive to turn it into a reality, this 54 hour action packed weekend is exactly what you need! 
Startup Weekend Karachi brings with it the opportunity for young entrepreneurs to receive coaching, form teams with other talented entrepreneurs, and turn their business idea into a reality! 

Startup Weekend follows a basic model which ensures maximum action in 54 hours:

  • Pitch: Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback
  • Form: Teams form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) 
  • Build: A 54-hour frenzy of business modeling, coding, designing, and validating
  • Present: A presentation in front of local entrepreneurial leaders

Imran Moinuddin
Founder & CEO

Imran Moinuddin is the founder & CEO of NexDegree (Private) Limited. Prior to founding the company, Imran worked as a research analyst and consultant for a biometrics consulting firm in New York City where his clients included both private and government institutions such as the DHS, DARPA, White House Office of Science & Technology Policy and Honeywell. Imran is especially strong in the area of scalable architectures and systems/infrastructure performance optimization and has served clients in all major continents. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Stanford University.

A therapeutic tutor and marketing professional turned entrepreneur, Nadia founded Sheops, Pakistan’s first online marketplace and community for women, where they can buy or sell goods and services, monetise their talents, cash in on their closets and share ideas about building a business. 

An advocate of women empowerment, Nadia aims to make Sheops a one stop destination for the Pakistani woman for all her business and shopping needs. She also plans to highlight the talent of the underprivileged Pakistani women, by helping them sell their handicrafts and creations on Sheops.


Faizan Laghari
Chief Disruption Officer at TCS Private Limited

Having spent 14 years in the tech industry, Faizan Laghari is one of the most prominent seasoned entrepreneurs. His  devotion for the entrepreneurs made him create Pakistan's 1st co-working space. The last-mile logistics company Forrun, SMS interaction system Textualy and the famous event-discovery and ticketing company Happening PK are some of his finest works. After leaving 3 companies which were later acquired, Faizan now works on his new ideas.


Babar Javed
Country General Manager Centric DXB

With 10 years of experience across Singapore, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan, Babar Khan Javed has led and turned around advertising agencies, luxury brands, and digital publishing companies. A regularly published thought leader with Warc Market Leader, Consulting Magazine, Yahoo Singapore, and e27,  Babar identifies himself as a journalist at his core. He is currently the country general manager for Centric DXB, a digital strategy firm based in the United Arab Emirates. He is a graduate of Google's "Squared" digital strategy program and lives at the intersection of digital strategy and perception manipulation.

Jehan Ara
President, Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA) and The Nest I/O

Jehan Ara is the President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA). She has been spearheading efforts at P@SHA for the past 14 years during which time she was responsible for developing the P@SHA brand and for creating linkages between P@SHA and local and international partners.   Jehan has over 30 years experience in Marketing, Communications and interactive New media in Hong Kong, the Far East, the UAE and Pakistan. She is a motivator, an entrepreneur, a social activist and a strong propagator of extending the power and use of Information and Communication Technologies beyond pure traditional business, to empower and enable communities. She is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences and at colleges and universities across Pakistan and internationally. She also writes for various industry publications.  During her 14 years at P@SHA, Jehan has initiated and worked on many initiatives in the startup and entrepreneurial space. Her latest initiative is the setting up of a technology incubator in Karachi, a city of 25 million – The Nest i/o - in  collaboration of  Google for Entrepreneurs and Samsung and support from the US Department of State.
Advocacy through the use of cutting edge technology is one of Jehan Ara’s passions.Multi-stakeholder backed Cyber Crime, Privacy and Data Protection legislation and Internet Freedom  are some of the things she is advocating for.

Akash Shaikh
Program Manager

Akash is an economics major with previous experience in the investment banking industry as a project manager. He is a firm believer in the potential for technology to continuously change lives, and is extremely enthusiastic about global entrepreneurship and technology trends. He is also the founder of a location based mobile app startup in private beta. At The Nest i/o, he is the Program Manager, and works with the startups to help them think critically and apply best practices.
