Speakers


Phil Smithson

Phil Smithson hails from the UK and holds a first class honours degree in Software Engineering. He is an Industry Advisory Board member and faculty member at Adamson University and offers User Experience strategy and mentoring to local companies through On-Off Group, IdeaSpace and Founders Institute amongst others. He is a Director of On-Off Group and has been helping companies design experiences for over 10 years and has taught UX to over 1,500 people.


Ace Gapuz
Content & Influencer Marketing Entrepreneur

Ace is an entrepreneur and marketing & PR specialist. She is currently the Managing Director of Blogapalooza Inc., the Philippines' premier influencer marketing company. She specializes in events, branding, corporate communications, and public relations and has worked with renowned companies like Boardwalk, GrabTaxi, Walker, Sunjoy, Pertua, and MFT Group. She is also an advocate of financial education and aims to educate more people about the basics of money through her podcast, Wise Cash.


Christopher Star
Growth Hacker & Marketing Consultant

Christopher is the former VP of Regional Digital Marketing at Paktor, former Head of Marketing at Duriana, former Director of Growth & Marketing at GuavaPass, former Group Online Marketing at HappyFresh and former VP of Marketing at DateTix. He has also worked with other startups such as Lazada, a Rocket Internet company.

He has an extensive experience in user acquisition, strategic partnerships, brand building, community management, content creation, influencer marketing, audience retention, public relations, and event activations tailored for regional markets across Southeast Asia.


Patrick Lynch
Co-Founder & CEO of First Circle

Patrick is the co-founder & CEO of First Circle: the first online business financer in SE Asia. Previously Patrick led the emerging market roll-out of the Compare Asia Group during which time the business grew from $0 - $100k+ monthly revenues and 165+ people across Manila, Jakarta, and Bangkok. Patrick is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, APEC delegate, and a gold medal graduate from Trinty College Dublin Business School.

As the Founder of Startup PH Mentorship (SPHM), Carlo's job is to fail fast to for his startup to succeed faster - and to encourage the exact same behavior. Startup PH Mentorship's mission is to transform education by scaling mentorship. Jedd Lim

Jedd Lim is an entrepreneur, an Information Systems consultant, and a marketer. He is currently the CEO and Co-founder of ThinkBIT, a software firm which provides customized enterprise solutions, mobile app development, and digital marketing services. 

Through ThinkBIT, Jedd is able to amass knowledge on business processes across industries and be more involved in the local startup scene. Aside from this, he loves talking about sales, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Anderson Tan
Angel Investor, Enterpriser

Anderson is an enterpriser, angel investor, and philanthropist. He is a board member and partner at LaunchGarage, Chairman and co-founder at MASINGngo Group and is actively involved as a mentor in startups globally. He has invested in multiple companies such as Snapchat, Pinterest, Lyft, Cloudera, Y Combinator and space related companies such as SpaceVR and more. He is also the founder and CEO of Milinillion Ltd, a Hong Kong based startup in the space industry.

Anderson has exited four companies so far, three by his own acquisition and one by Initial Public Offering (IPO).


Francis Simisim
CEO, Social Light Inc & Co-Founder, WhenInManila

Francis co-founded WhenInManila.com back in 2007 which has become the biggest online magazine blog in the Philippines garnering around 10 millions pageviews per month with a high social media engagement and following. He is also the Founder and Business Director in Blogapalooza (2011), which brought together the biggest and annual blogging event in the Philippines, gathering 1000+ Bloggers and 50+ Businesses under one big roof!
Francis is currently the CEO of Social Light Inc. He also recently become a partner at a local VC firm, www.OriginalPitch.vc. Where he invests in startups to growth stage companies to help them scale up.


Joseph Calata
CEO, Calata Corporation

Joseph Calata is a Filipino business tycoon, agricultural industrialist, and philanthropist. He is the CEO of the Calata Corporation, the Philippines biggest distributor of agricultural products. In 2012, the self-made billionaire became the country's youngest businessman ever to list his company for IPO.

Angel Investor, Founder & CEO, Katalyst.ph

Joe Maristela is a serial entrepreneur, and prominent angel, seed, and independent investor based in San Francisco, California and Manila, Philippines


Jojo Flores
Co-Founder,Plug and Play Tech Center

Jojo is Co-Founder at Plug and Play Tech Center, a Silicon Valley based technology startup accelerator, which he started in January 2006.  At any given time, there are at 
least 350 startups at Plug and Play from all around the world that access a network of over 300 angel investors, 170 venture capital firms, and 300 large corporations.  Since inception, Plug and Play startups have been able to raise in excess of $2.2 billion in funding.  Plug and Play Ventures have over 300 companies in its portfolio, including PayPal, Dropbox, Lending Club, Zoosk, among others.

In addition, Jojo serves as a Board Member in the Science and Technology Advisory Council to the Philippine government and leading universities, helping them bridge technology entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley.  He leads the yearly ON3 Pitching Competition, which searches promising Filipino startups and take them to Silicon Valley for a 3-month immersion program.

Jojo completed his BS Business Administration studies in 1989 at the University of the Philippines, Diliman.


Jay Fajardo
CEO, LaunchGarage

Jay is a serial tech entrepreneur, a coder, and a soccer player.

He is currently co-founder and CEO of Ruby development shop PROUDCLOUD, co-founder and CTO of healthtech startup MEDIFI, and the founder and CEO of LAUNCHGARAGE, an innovation hub based in Manila.

In 2002, he founded Wi-Fi hotspot network Airborne Access, which was acquired by PLDT in 2008.

As a regular speaker at local and international forums on the South East Asian startup ecosystem, and holding roles as director, advisor, and mentor in various tech startups, Jay is considered to be one of the pioneers and thought leaders of the Philippine tech startup scene.



Coaches and Mentors


Paolo Espiritu

One of the engineers who developed DIWATA-1, the Philippines' first microsatellite. In 2014, he founded Narra 3D, a 3D printing company that lets inventors turn their designs into real/life products. His most recent venture, Haraya Labs, aims to make STEM education more accessible to Filipino students by creating free educational platforms in virtual reality where students can enjoy learning.


Charles Justin Lim

Justin is passionate about helping the youth achieve their goals through mentorship and coaching. He is currently the CEO of Veer Immersive Technologies, a startup focused on building game-changing content in Virtual Reality, and the Academic Specialist of Microsoft Philippines, where he runs student programs such as the Microsoft Student Partner program and the Microsoft Imagine Cup in the Philippines.

Johan Janssens
Product Developer, CEO Timble, and Co-founder Joomla

Johan Janssens is a Belgian web architect, tech entrepreneur and free software advocate. In the past 10 years Johan has spent most his time creating and advocating free and open source software and helping evolve the world wide web.Johan is most known as co-founder and lead developer of Joomla, an open source content management system used by more than 3% of all the sites on the internet.


Brent Reodica
CEO & Co-Founder at Team Aguhon


Brent has a Film Degree from the University of the Philippines. While studying, he started buying and selling  to fund his thesis, developing most of my basic business skills along the way. After more than 3 years of doing that, he took a life-coaching course then did freelance work as a professional trainer. Wanting to revisit what he learned from my degree, he worked in media as an Interim Executive Producer of two cable channels. His passion for helping young people discover their paths led to the birth of Team Aguhon, where he is a co-founder and CEO.

Team Aguhon is the country's first and only professional training company for students. They aim to build a nation with direction by helping students help themselves. To date, they have helped close to 10,000 students clarify their direction.


Paul Ignacio
Senior Art Director at MRM-McCann

Paul Ignacio is a senior art director at MRM-McCann, the country’s biggest digital agency and five-peat winner of the Campaign Asia-Pacific Digital Agency of the Year Award. He took Communication Technology and Information Design courses at the Ateneo de Manila University and has over a decade of design experience. Innovations and creative tech are a passion, and he’s excited about the growing local startup scene. On a whim, he pitched an idea for an app at Startup Weekend 2014 and ended up bagging second prize.

Justin Marco Tee
Co-founder Builtable

Justin Marco Tee co-founded Builtable back in August of 2016. It is the first ever co-working space and fabrication laboratory for hardware technology startups in the Philippines. He was also the business development manager at Awesome Labs Inc. and currently serves them as their front-end software developer.


Cristopher David
Engineer, Co-Founder and CTO of Veer Immersive Technologies

Toph is an engineer and lifelong technologist who is passionate about transformative innovations that could potentially impact society. He is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Veer Immersive Technologies, a company pioneering solutions for entertainment and enterprise applications across different fields with Virtual Reality technology. He also founded VR Philippines to boost the local Virtual Reality community and help put the Philippines in the forefront of this exciting technological revolution.


Priya Thachadi
Co-founder Villgro Philippines

Priya Thachadi is the co-founder of Villgro Philippines, an early stage social enterprise incubator and investor, that funds, mentors and supports innovative enterprises that are building solutions to impact the lives of the poor. With over ten years of experience in the development sector, Priya is passionate about developing the social entrepreneurship sector in the region and is currently leading expansion of Villgro, one of India’s foremost impact investors to the Philippines and other parts of SE Asia. 


Elmerei Cuevas
Founder Diligence Cafe

Elmerei Cuevas is the founder and CEO of Diligence Cafe. This new Cafe based in Katipunan is a new study cafe in Katipunan that offers high-speed internet connection, unlimited coffee, snacks, and napping services. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in Materials Engineering and has found success in various local technology-based startup competitions. Aside from being an entrepreneur, Elmerei has also had previous experience as the supervisor of Uber’s partner support center as well as a supply chain manager at Human Nature.


Paulo Bengson
Senior Manager of Inspire Ventures

Paulo began his career in accounting and consulting in Washington DC then did his MBA in Spain, where he learned about startups. He moved back to the Philippines and was a project manager for Coca-Cola FEMSA, where he focused on large scale logistics projects and new product launches. He then joined Inspire Ventures, a venture builder focused on starting up scalable business models in the ASEAN region. He was assigned to launch and head operations of one of Inspire Ventures' startups in the Philippines called Transportify. Transportify is a mobile and web app that connects customers that logistics services and independent contractors that are willing and capable to provide such services.


Ralph Regalado
CEO and Founder of Senti Techlabs

Ralph Vincent Regalado is the CEO and Founder of Senti, a tech startup that analyzes sentiments and conversations in social media and winner of Startup Weekend Manila 2013. He is also one of the Community Managers of GDG Philippines. He is a professor, and a Natural Language Processing researcher at De La Salle University, Manila. His research works were presented not only in local but also in international conferences hosted in China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and the United States. When he is not at work, he spends his time traveling and hiking mountains.

Carlo is a serial entrepreneur who has co-founded several start-ups. His latest one MobKard has been recognized over the past years which has led to several awards. Carlo is a mentor and angelpreneur of GoNegosyo. He has been involved in educating/teaching and training entrepreneurs as well as would be entrepreneurs to become successful after previously teaching in AIM, Assumption College, DLSU and ADMU. Carlo continues his advocacy of helping start ups by recently opening a new incubator/accelerator in Makati.

Angeline Viray
Founder, Beep a Ride

Angeline is the Founder and CEO of Beep a Ride, the first and largest peer-to-peer car sharing/car rental platform in the Philippines, where you can have instant car access in a beep. She founded Beep a Ride to aid in solving the country's transportation access issues and sustainable income issues for middle class citizens. She is a licensed Chemist by study (University of Santo Tomas), a User Experience (UX) Architect and Designer by profession, and a Startup Founder and Entrepreneur by choice.
