Do I need to have an idea to participate?

If you have an idea for a startup, then great! We hope to hear your pitch on the Friday. If you don’t have an idea, come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched, get inspired and see if something strikes your interest! The weekend is all about learning about the startup ideation process, sharing ideas. If you have questions, check out the Startup Weekend First Timers FAQ.

  • Will the event be in English or Portuguese?  
    The event will be in English.  
  • Where is the event? 
    We have two amazing venues for the event. The main talks, mentoring sessions, and final pitches will be held at the auditorium of ETIC. The co-working space / incubation center Canopy Lisbon is available for and even to stay over night. Both located close to Cais do Sodré and next to the TimeOut market.

The ETIC Auditorium closes, but the teams can work all night in Canopy (Rua D. Luis I 3, Piso 2), or go to Pink street, have a drink and get to know each other.

Workshop: Customer Interviews
Stewart & Pedro will provide a workshop on how to conduct customer interviews. We want you to go out on the street and talk to your potential customer.


11:00 am
Coach Meetings
Coaches arrive… ASK QUESTIONS! Coach meetings will be in the meeting rooms at Canopy. Make use of the expertise and knowledge of the different coaches.


12:30 pm
Lunch
Between 12:30 and 15:00h you have the opportunity to eat lunch @ Martinhal Chiado. Make sure to wear your Startup Weekend T-shirt, so the team can recognise you. Martinhal Chiado address: Rua das Flores 44, 8135-998 Lisboa

After-lunch check-in, status reports, call for help. The organisation will pass by every team to check up how you're doing and what you need help with.

Stewart will give a workshop about how to give and deliver a killer pitch.

Stewart Noakes

Stewart is a co-founder of Canopy co-working and incubation in Boston, Exeter and now Lisbon.  A serial entrepreneur Stewart has been involved with mentoring of over 200 startups as well as building and investing in several companies in the UK, USA, India and Portugal.  Originally from the UK, Stewart has been living in Portugal since April 2016.  His professional passion is for the first two years of any company.

Nancy Brito
Business Angel at Semeia Ventures

Technologist, investor and entrepreneur; Nancy has over 15 years of experience running Internet related businesses. She graduated from University of Toronto with a degree in computer science and in 2011 completed an executive MBA from ASE/IESE University of Navarra. Nancy has served as CEO of a leading digital agency in Portugal during 8 years and has provided the technical leadership that has made the Portuguese pharmacies leap into the 20th century.  She is now a business Angel and helping startups grow. In addition to her work in technology and business, Nancy is also an active society member where she inspires women, men and organizations to be more diverse, open and supportive in developing a new career pattern. She is passionately interested in traveling and cooking and has personally organized memorable themed happenings for people she cares about: family and friends.


Shannon Graybill

This cowgirl turned wannabe-European spent the first 5 years after university working and traveling through Asia and Africa before discovering her love of Southern Europe – Portugal in particular. Shannon’s professional focus was mainly marketing and business development, but entering Lisbon’s startup scene has changed her tune. She is now warming up her tech muscles while pursuing her own startup dreams and mobilizing Portugal's inspired-entrepreneurs to bootstrap and build “it” themselves.

Daniel Kisluk is a digital marketing and growth expert from Tel Aviv who is during the last ten years worked with various international startups, advertising publishers & marketing agencies. Since his relocation to Lisbon three years ago, Daniel already acted as the head of marketing at Landing.jobs startup, today he is an expert jury at the Portugal Ventures´ "Call for Entrepreneurship" program and the head of marketing at Aptoide, one of the leading startups in Portugal with over 150 million global users.

A true adventurer in life. Once an architecture student, André changed his course to follow 3D animation and Augmented Reality at a time no one was speaking of it. A self-taught programmer, he kept pushing his boundaries and went on to co-found BeyonIdeas and to serve in several projects as a Frontend developer. Nowadays he’s an ambitious entrepreneur who loves technology, travel, learning new things and giving back his knowledge.

Angela Miguel

Happily working at laux, a small UX studio in Lisbon, doing Research, Strategy, Design and Testing for startup and corporate clients. 
With a background in print design and after fulfilling her dream to become an Editorial Designer, Angela realized that books and magazines weren’t enough… It was whenshe decided to fully embrace the digital world and start using my design skills for the future!
