About Techstars Global Startup Weekend COVID-19 Edition: 

This series of online Techstars Startup Weekends focuses on developing solutions that directly tackle COVID-19-related challenges. They are 54-hour online events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs - you'll connect with amazing mentors, industry experts, founders, and partners who are ready to help you get started. The Online Startup Weekend will bring together participants that will work on prototypes for three days.

For the edition, while teams in South Korea are hosting - EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE can join! This event is not only about bringing together developers who can work on software-based solutions for the crisis. It’s an opportunity for everyone interested in the topic to inspire and be inspired and to work together on developing inclusive solutions. How does it work? 

1. Register for the event and receive a confirmation 

2. In the confirmation email, you will receive a link to submit your ideas. You have until 12PM (NOON) on Thursday, May 14 to submit your ideas. If you do not have an idea, you can join a team (explained in step 4). 
** UPDATE: Please note that idea submissions are now closed, but you are still welcome to participate. There may be a chance to pitch ideas during Friday's kick-off depending on the final number of participants.

3. Ideas will be reviewed by mentors. The accepted ideas (depending on the number of participants and final theme) will be announced on Thursday, May 14 at 7PM. 

4. From Thursday evening up to Friday evening (until the end of the kick-off), participants can review ideas, meet other participants and decide which team to join. In the case that your idea is not selected by mentors, join another team and have fun! 

5. Once the team is formed, you're ready to start working together! Get together on Zoom, Discord, and other online tools to #HackCovid-19 together. You have all of Saturday and Sunday morning to develop your solution. 

6. On Saturday morning, there will be a webinar on business modeling (or another topic based on request). For Saturday afternoon, you can schedule calls with coaches. We'll help you get set up. 

7. By Sunday lunchtime, teams should submit their pitch decks and videos for review. Finalists will be selected (based on the number of teams) by a panel of judges. 

8. The final pitches take place on Sunday afternoon live on Zoom with a panel of judges. 

9. Judges will pick the winners based on the Startup Weekend judging criteria. 

10. We wrap up the weekend with a virtual party!

이번 해커톤은 54시간 동안 진행되며 기술 및 비기술 기업가를 위한 우수한 체험 교육을 제공하기 위해 마련된 온라인 이벤트로서, 여러분이 창업을 시작할 수 있도록 분야별 업계 전문 멘토, 전문가, 창업자 및 파트너와 연결해드리고 창업과 관련된 비즈니스 아이디어를 구체화하고 개발하는데 도와드립니다.이미 60개 도시에서 3일 동안 시제품 제작이 가능한 수천 명의 참가자 아이디어가 모였습니다. 이번 이벤트는 위기 상황에 대비해 소프트웨어 기반 솔루션을 개발할 수 있는 개발자들만 한자리에 모이는 것은 아닙니다. 주제에 관심 있는 모든 사람들이 영감을 주고받으며 다양한 해결책을 개발하고 함께 성장해나가는 이벤트입니다.전 세계적으로 진행되는 해커톤 소식이 궁금하다면?? 

좋은 아이디어가 있으신가요? 본격적인 이벤트가 시작되기 전, 아이디어를 사전 접수하여 제출해 주시면 됩니다. 아이디어 제출 마감일은 수요일 오후 11시 59분(서울 현지시간 기준)입니다. 모든 아이디어가 제출되면, 멘토들은 제출된 모든 자료를 검토하여 최고의 아이디어를 선정할 것입니다. 목요일에는 모든 참가자들이 볼 수 있도록 최고의 아이디어가 발표됩니다. 그리고 참가자들이 팀을 구성할 수 있도록 팀 빌딩에 대한 시간이 제공될 것입니다.

Event Judges

Martin Hoxer
Executive Director of Innovation Centre Denmark in Seoul

Martin holds Master’s degrees in Political Science from Aarhus University (AU), and Project Management and Process Improvement from Roskilde University (RUC).
He has vast experience within innovation, internationalization and business development. Martin has worked with both public and private entities and as a CEO in the Danish business promotion system and as a Director of International Relations at a university of applied science. Before these positions, he also worked with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinating the Danish support to diverse development programmes.
Core competences are within project management, strategy and business development.

Jason S. Park
President and Representative Director, Maersk Korea

Jason S. Park has been appointed as the President and Representative Director of Maersk Korea Ltd. in August, 2017.
He has been with Maersk Line since 1999. Over the last 19 years, he has held senior roles related to mostly management and sales in Korea and Singapore including trade, global key client and sales channel manager.
Jason holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Inha University

Betty Yan Liu
Operating Partner at Mærsk Growth

Betty has worked in Mærsk for 22 years. She is holding a position as Operating Partner at Maersk Growth working with startup to scale their businesses; co-create product with startups; create additional revenue for both Maersk and startups. She also has board positions in the Maersk Growth invested companies; loadsmart, flit, IncoDocs.

Albert Hahn
Head of Google for Startups Campus Korea

Albert joined Google for Startups in October 2018 after 8 years as a co-founder of Hellomarket, a c2c mobile marketplace startup based out of Seoul. At Hellomarket, he was involved in all facets of startup growth, from product-market fit, to marketing, to internal operations to fundraising. His main interests are to help Korean startups go global as well as helping startup founders with their leadership and soft skills as their companies scale.

Albert earned a BA from Yale University, an MPP from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a MA from UC Berkeley.

Monica Kang is a social entrepreneur, creative educator, speaker and community builder.

As the Founder & CEO of InnovatorsBox, she empowers leaders and organizations with creative thinking and innovation for professionals through workshops, games, coaching and consulting. InnovatorsBox has received a number of national awards for being a bold innovative company that is changing the way how professionals learn to be innovative at work and at home. 

As a community builder, she is an active contributor to the DC startup community scene by being an Organizer and Facilitator at DC Startup Weekend, President of DMV Startup and Fellow at StartingBloc.

Prior to her entrepreneurship path, she was a nuclear nonproliferation policy expert working in international affairs.

Francisco Betancourt

Born in Colombia, lived in The United States, France and made Japan his home for the last decade. Moved from Retail (Carrefour, France) to shipping (CMA CGM), Forwarding (Schenker), and contract logistics (Bollore) to Maersk, the Global Logistics Integrator in 2019.
Core competences in both back and front office positions, Sales management & Product Management.

Haewon Rah
Network Engagement Manager at Techstars

I'm Haewon Rah, and I work as a Network Engagement Manager on Techstars' Industry Service Team. My job is to help facilitate meaningful relationships between our Corporate Partners and Techstars Alumni companies whose solutions align with the partners’ innovation goals.
Prior to Techstars, my career experience was mainly focused on startup fields with social impact purposes; 2 years of supporting roles to incubate early-staged startups with social impact based on my 3 years of company-founding experience in the education field for local marginalized kids.
