Empowering Women!!

The first ever TechStars Startup Weekend Sri Lanka - Women’s Edition happening in Colombo, Sri Lanka in February 2019. Startup Weekend is a worldwide event which promotes tech entrepreneurship among the young community. The participants will experience the highs, lows, fun and pressure that make up a life at a start-up and they will meet the very best mentors, investors, co-founders who are ready to help the startups to take off the ground and amazingly all these happens with in just 54 hours.

Kasturi Wilson
Managing Director - Hemas Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd. / Hemas Logistics and Maritime Cluster

She is the Managing Director of Hemas Pharmaceuticals and Hemas Logistics and Maritime Sector of Hemas Holdings PLC. Wilson has an unparalleled track record of growing and transforming businesses, as evidenced from her time at Hemas Holdings. Having joined the group in 2002 as Finance Director of Hemtours (presently, Diethelm Travels), she was appointed as Head of Vishwa BPO, Hemas’s shared service unit, in 2005.  During her two-year stint there, she built a highly motivated business support team which streamlined transaction processing and SBU reporting across the group. From there, she went on to roles as Chief Process Officer of Hemas Holdings and as Managing Director of the Group’s transportation sector, and since April 2016 she has been the Managing Director of Hemas Pharmaceuticals, along with her role as Managing Director of Hemas Logistics and Maritime.

Sachindra Samararatne joined the industry development program of ICTA in 2010. He is currently the Program Manager of the Industry Development Program of ICTA which overlooks programs such as country branding, business promotions, national startup initiatives, industry knowledge enhancement programs and career guidance programs. He has a Master’s in Business Administration, Bachelors in Information Technology and a Bachelors in Business Administration. He is also a Microsoft Certified Professional. His areas of expertise are Country Branding and Career Guidance. Sachindra also serves on the board of a Christian non-profit organization and on the board of his family owned business.


Gowri Rajan

 A respected business personality from hill country of Sri Lanka. Group Executive Director/CMO of Sun and Asoka Group of Companies, market leader in the safety matches industry has today become a diversified conglomerate in the business of bottled drinking water, printing, hauliers and education.

Mangala Karunaratne
Founder & CEO - Calcey Technologies

Mangala entered the software industry as an engineer in the Silicon Valley during the heady days of the dot.com boom and then held various Internet engineering and management roles at Fortune 100 technology companies and dot-coms. Mangala returned to his homeland – Sri Lanka, to set up Calcey Technologies – a company delivering bespoke digital product engineering solutions to US and European clients, employing over 90 engineers today. Staying true to his roots Mangala is a serial entrepreneur and investor and a supporter of the Sri Lankan startup eco-system. Aside from his position as CEO of Calcey, Mangala serves as the Co-Chairman of FARO (Foundation for Advancing Rural Opportunity); a nonprofit organization, which actively assists rural youth in Sri Lanka to find sustainable employment in the outsourcing industry.

Nevindaree is a Project Officer of the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka in the Industry Development Program. While primarily working on the Tech Startup Support Program designing and implementing programs for the betterment of the startup ecosystem in Sri Lanka, she also works on the All Children Coding program, the schools maker spaces program and the digital social entrepreneurship program. Formerly a tech lead at Informatics International, Nevindaree has a Bachelors in software engineering, an MBM from the University of Colombo and is also PMP certified.

Ahamed Nishadh
Project Manager, ICTA

Ahamed is a Project Manager of the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka in the Industry Development Program and manages the technology startup support program since 2014. He has implemented a wide range of projects in support of the startup ecosystem in Sri Lanka and is also the co-founder of Disrupt Asia, Sri Lanka's premier startup conference and expo. He has a range of experience in working with startups on a variety of domains while running the Spiralation accelerator program of ICTA and is also involved in many startup initiatives in the country. Out of office, he is also part of the team that organizes TEDxColombo which is the oldest and largest TEDx event in Sri Lanka and also TEDxYouth@Colombo among many other volunteer programs.


Pasindu De Silva
