Are you hungry? Are you ready to disrupt the food industry with your ideas?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 2000+ past events in 120 countries around the world in 2015.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

In our Startup Weekend Foodtech edition we are looking at how we can solve global problems around food. The world population is exponentially growing and the food system is not sustainable anymore. How innovation and technologies will change the food chain? Here are some topics we would like to challenge you about:

  • Urban farming
  • Smart packaging
  • Food delivery
  • Healthy and diet solutions
  • Food security
  • IoT: smart kitchens and restaurants
  • Food waste
  • Big Data for a more sustainable food system

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur, register now for the best weekend of your life!

Food for Progress stands for a new food logic.

Event Judges

Johan Jörgensen
Foodtech Evangelist

If there ever was a foodtech nerd, Johan is the one. He's done foodtech since 2011 when he was named "venture capitalist of the year" and subsequently was flooded by crappy business ideas from the tech sector that led him to food. Together with his colleagues in Sweden FoodTech he now runs one of the world's largest food festivals and the foodtech system up North where they accelerate transformative entrepreneurs. There's a reason why Stockholm is about to become the Silicon Valley of foodtech.

Coaches and Mentors

Markus Wulff
Digital Innovation and IoT at The Absolut Company

Products become the media and how to deliver contextual experiences to consumers where the value is in delivering gain or minimizing pain. The role I have today is exploring, piloting and executing internet of things (IoT) related projects in markets by using digital as an enabler. How can a large global brand be a part of a consumer journey - IoT can enable this by connecting products into home environment, smart packaging, ontrade and offtrade.

Jared Fossey
Product Strategist

Jared is the combination of a strategist and a designer, and is in the habit of designing entire businesses with the same level of craft as we might design a product or website. As head of design ventures studio Josephmark's European operations, he converts ideas into opportunities, opportunities into strategies and strategies into businesses. Through working and consulting in just about any industry you can imagine, the continuous theme to all of Jared's work has been a laser-like focus on humans, their behaviours, wants and needs, and how to structurally create products and businesses that deliver value to those humans.
