Startup Weekend Zurich, Food & Social Innovation November 10th - 12th, 2017

  • You want to learn how an idea turns into a business?

Your dream does not exist, you must create it!

Come start a company, learn something new, test your developer skills, maybe meet your future co-founder – either way you’ll have the most fun you’ve ever had!
Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event where developers, designers and business folks come together to pitch an idea and launch a business, all in one weekend. It is a great opportunity to test startup ideas, meet like minded people and potential co-founders, build the community in Zürich and launch your startup.

Startup Weekend follows a basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch a startup idea and receive feedback from peers. Teams organically form around top ideas, as determined by popular vote. Each team has 54 hours to create a business model, code, design, and determine market validation. The weekend culminates with presentations of top ideas to entrepreneurial leaders.

At the Startup Weekend you can meet participants from all fields. During the weekend you will develop your ideas into business models. You will have access to experiences coaches and startup experts who will support you. On Sunday you will present your business to the jury, who will give you feedback and choose the best team. 

Included in the event price are all presentations, food and drinks. All participants receive an attractive package of vouchers and services which are useful for every startup. The event language is English. This years topic is food & Social innovation. However ideas related to the topic are welcome too.

David Andersen

David is a Startup Weekend Veteran. He started organising Startup Weekends back in 2012. Shortly after, he travelled around europe to participate in Startup Weekends and has been a Global Facilitator at the organisation since 2013. David owns a tech & design company called “Bagvendt” together with two friends. They help clients with building prototypes in order to take an idea to the final product. What you will experience this weekend is basically what they do on a daily basis in their company.


Reto Lämmler
Co-Founder and CEO of Testingtime.com

Test early and often is Reto’s mantra for good Interaction Design. Reto started TestingTime at the beginning of 2013. As CEO, Reto leads the vision and mission of the startup. Prior to TestingTime, Reto worked as Interaction Designer and Usability Consultant with his own 58rocks GmbH. At doodle.com he gained international startup experience as VP Product Management. He owns a MAS in Interaction Design and a BS in Computer Science.



Lydia Bronze Yampolsky
Marketing and Sales Operations Strategist at Linie7

As a marketing strategist, Lydia takes the end customer’s product requirements, success stories, wishes and demands, and interpret it into a marketing strategy. She sees her role very much as that of a change agent. Lydia has a deep understanding of how the collaboration of marketing and technology impacts expansion of global interests. This is how she assists in building and enhancing diverse and vital customer capabilities and scalable and low-cost alternatives 
for revenue growth.

Patrick Honauer is a multiple entrepreneur in the food industry. He is co-founder of Bachser Märt, Hotel Jakob Rapperswil. Patrick is involved in several social organizations. 


Diraj Dass
Founder of Finance-Force AG

Diraj setup his first business at the age of 19 in England whilst training to be an accountant, and spent the next years working in senior finance positions internationally, learning the ins and outs of business.  At the age of 29 he founded Swiss based Finance-Force AG, supporting corporations in areas of financial management, board advisory and corporate finance.  Fast forward seven years later to today, he serves as the Managing Partner of the firm, and is an investor/CFO in a wide portfolio of companies. His passion is to work with entrepreneurs via his incubator program, taking the wantrepeneur to entrepreneur, not just by offering the required capital, but by throwing his own know-how and time into the project, as well as the resources of his back office, partners and network.


Rosa Sangiorgio

Rosa is an experienced Portfolio Manager and currently working at Head of Management Office for Investment Management at Credit Suisse. She has been working in the Asset Management and Private Banking industry for the past 20 years, across Europe . Since 2013 she is passionate and vocal about Sustainability and Impact Investing.

Jack Berglund
Chief Product Officer at Doodle

Jack has 15 years of product management experience conceiving, building and launching products and services across a range of industries. Currently CPO at Doodle, he's previously worked in startups and large established companies on three continents, giving him great insights in what's most important at the beginning and how to grow and mature a product and company.   Originally trained as a chemical engineer, it quickly became apparent he'd rather build great software than refineries.  Hobbies are traveling, anything on snow, cycling and traveling (yes traveling is in there twice!)


Stephanie Tauber Gomez
PR, Communication & Sustainability at UrbanFarmers AG

As the Urban Farmers (UF) Experience Project Manager Stephanie works on the paradigm shift of the supposed antagonism between rural and urban lifestyle to position UF as an alternative food production system, which stands for access, through indulgence, health and community. By translating UF's vision she develops new revenue streams with the existing core business of farming fish and vegetables within the city and positions UF as a world leading urban farming company by driving a highly competitive product & service offerings on the farms. She's worked in think thanks and innovation agencies always focused on turning big ideas into reality. Passionate about breaking up with industry norms and to wind up defining entirely new industries! 


Edouard Appenzeller
Chief Innovation Manager at Bischofszell Food Innovation

Ed is a hands-on, experienced specialist in development, production, technical services, safety, sustainability, quality, standards, HACCP, flavours, extracts, fruit products, drinks and convenience food. 2016 he established Bischofszell Food Innovation at Technopark Zürich. The team is discovering newly emerging trends, new product concepts, new technologies, and opportunities in social media and digitalization. The resulting concepts are brought to market success by Bischofszell Food Ltd. He would like to support your Idea and share his experience with you.

Christof Rauber is a multiple entrepreneur in the food industry. Among others he is involved in Secret Dinner and Lunchclub food delivery. 
After graduating in Business at the University of St Gallen he first worked for Procter and Gamble.

Christoph Bacher
Business consultant eXcellence

Christoph is business consultant in the eXcellence Team at Migros-Industry, the internal consulting of Migros-Industry. He has experience in transforming ideas into concrete and convincing new business model concepts and is familiar with the challenges in the industry of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG). Christoph conducts seminars on the topic “Design Thinking” and “Business Model Innovation” where he pushes innovation teams to use their collaborative knowledge and to think outside the box.
