Join the Global Movement
For the first time ever, Startup Weekend Taiwan is joining the Techstars global movement to host a Global Online Startup Weekend alongside 70 countries around the world. This series of virtual Startup Weekends will be focused on tackling issues from the #COVID19 #pandemic and developing solutions unique to each country. 


Techstars Global Prize 🏆
Techstars will select up to 20 teams from all the country level winners and invite them to participate in an exclusive Techstars Innovation Bootcamp. The program will surround teams with the frameworks, mentorship, and resources necessary to rapidly identify and validate solutions effectively. We want to help them do more, faster! Johnson Yeh
Founder & CEO of ROEHL

Johnson Yeh Bachelor of arts in economics from University of Chicago MBA in general management from Fuqua School of Business, Duke University Ph.D. in strategic management from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University Johnson started his career in Harvard Law School as a research assistant. Following that, he joined Fidelity Investments in Taiwan as a research analyst. After his MBA, he joined McKinsey & Company, where he was last an associate principal in its Taipei office. He was a leader in the cleantech and sustainability practice in McKinsey. He later went on to work for the World Economic Forum in Geneva, where he led the circular economy initiative, working with top stakeholders in the world leading up to the climate summit in Paris 2015. He then led Riot Games in China, Southeast Asia and Japan for the next years, bringing the golden years of League of Legends Esports to China. He now follows his passion and started ROEHL, an environmental lifestyle as a service company, focusing on home appliance as a rental service.

Michel Chu
General Partner of Acorn Campus Taiwan

Michel Chu is a serial entrepreneur, investor, adjunct professor, advisor and entrepreneurial coach. In addition to being a General Partner at Acorn Campus Taiwan, he serves as a member of the Science and Technology Council at the Board of Science and Technology of Taiwan's Executive Yuan. Michel is also Chairman of VSense, a company developing highly sensitive COVID-19 screening diagnostics based on semiconductor biosensors. Michel co-founded GigaMedia (NASDAQ: GIGM) in 1998 as Chief Technology Officer and led the company through a US$4B IPO in 2000. From 2004, Michel was also Executive Vice President of GigaMedia in charge of strategic planning, business development, M&A and general corporate management. From 2017 to 2019 Michel served as the Chief Innovation Officer of Taiwan's Biomedical Development Board, a government organization tasked to oversee, facilitate and accelerate Taiwan's entrepreneurship in life sciences. Michel has extensive domain expertise in diverse fields including cloud computing, mobile Internet, hardware and medical devices. He has been an active angel investor with 20+ years of experiences of coaching, building, inspiring and accelerating entrepreneurial teams. Michel has a demonstrated track record of facilitating start-ups, particularly technology spin-outs from universities. Michel is a respected authority on entrepreneurship and is a sought-after judge / speaker / mentor at the leading entrepreneurial activities. Michel is currently an adjunct faculty of National Taiwan University, giving courses on Multi-sided Platforms, BioDesign for Medical Devices, Entrepreneurship, Group Dynamics and Leadership.


Tang-Long Shen
Professor/Director of National Taiwan University

Prof. Tang-Long Shen received his BS and MS degrees from National Taiwan University in the Department of Plant Pathology in 1991 and 1994, respectively, and obtained his PhD from Cornell University in the Department of Molecular Medicine in 2002. After his postdoc training in American Heart Association, Prof. Shen joined the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at the National Taiwan University since 2004. His research explores varied subjects, including microbes, plants to human, to understand the basic mechanisms of various pathologic complications as well as how to utilize the microbial metabolites or natural product for human health. By using molecular biology, biochemistry and cellular biology approaches as well as animal models, Prof. Shen deciphers the molecular mechanism of cancer progression, especially how cancer cells interact with tumor microenvironment in cell migration, the formation of pre-metastatic niches and metastatic organotropism, including integrins, receptor tyrosine kinases, non-receptor tyrosine kinases (e.g. FAK, Src), adaptor proteins (e.g. Grb7, C35) and extracellular vesicles (e.g. exosomes). Additionally, Shen lab is also seeking useful natural products and de novo protein components in human cells including critical secondary metabolites from traditional Chinese medicinal fungi, Cordyceps spp, Antrodia cinnamomea, and metallothioneins, to apply for anti-cancer, anti-aging or other therapeutics.

Gino Chang works in Internet industry for 6 years and has seasoned experience in investment and strategy. Now, he is General Manager of KKTV, the prestige video streaming service in Taiwan under KKBOX Group. Previously, Gino worked in Morgan Stanley to cover Asia semiconductor Industry.



Leland Lai

Leland has built several fast-growth businesses in both Asia and Silicon Valley. phireGEN specializes in C-level strategic consulting and business development execution in the Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) space. Over the years, our boutique firm has delivered engagements spanning Spain, Kazakhstan, Korea, Brazil, Greater China and Hollywood USA. Leland is currently advising SBIE2’s private placement business and guiding a client through the T-Mobile/Sprint merger. Prior to this, he headed Facebook's Telecom infra Project and led GSMA through a major strategic pivot that grew Mobile World Congress Shanghai by 3658% over 7 years. Leland was part of the 2007 Terayon executive team when Motorola acquired it for USD 140M and part of the 2001 eOn Communications’ IPO team. He began his career in 1990 at Hutchison Telecom.
Leland was a recipient of Award for Excellence in TMT from WI Harper, and was named an Executive to Watch by Fierce Wireless Magazine and a Conference Ambassador by Shanghai. He holds both an MBA and a BS in mechanical engineering from UCLA.

Andrew Yang

Andrew is a presentation coach and designer who has spent 12+ years working with Nobel-winning scientists, national leaders, corporate executives, startup founders, and venture investors. At the urging of a major VC, he co-founded Presentality in 2017 to help startups present more effectively to international investors, clients, and partners. Since then, Presentality has served over 100 companies, of which many went on to raise millions in venture funding. It has also worked with VC firms on their global communication and fundraising. Before this, Andrew was at Taiwan’s Presidential Office, where he was foreign policy speechwriter to the President and Vice President. He also spent 6 years at the International Science Council (which represents the global science community at the United Nations), working with President and Nobel Laureate Prof. YT Lee and other scientists on their presentation and communication. Andrew grew up in Taiwan, Europe and the United States, and speaks English, Mandarin, French, and German. He received his B.A. in International Affairs from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School.



Shawn Chu

Allen Houng

Hao-Wei Chen

A cybersecurity professional and a passionate nonprofit entrepreneur, with lifelong thirst for technology and community building. Hao-Wei has established multinational nonprofit groups and is leading the efforts to pursue their high-impact missions. Outside of work, he serves as the President of NEX Foundation and the Chair of Cybersecurity Advisory Committee in Overseas of National Security Council (Taiwan).


Jun-Han Su

A physician-scientist with experience in developing and commercializing biomedical technologies as well healthcare investing. I hold a MD and BSc in physics from NTU, MPhil from Cambridge, and a PhD in biophysics from Harvard.


David Kuo

David Kuo is the co-founder and CEO of iiiNNO, a startup launchpad based in Taipei with an early-stage investment of 25K to 50K USD. I am a tech enthusiast and digital marketing specialist with international experience. Prior starting Springboard Group - a marketing agency, I led high-profile digital marketing campaigns for EY’s female entrepreneur program in Hong Kong. I have worked in marketing and communications across many sectors including time at UNICEF in the Philippines, an Austrian consultancy focused on governmental institutions, a German B2B and B2G IT company and the biggest online job platform in Spain. I’m a passionate advocate for female mentoring and founded the NextGen Women Network, sit on the committee of TEDxTinHauWomen and I’m also a steering committee member of the Asian University for Women.
