Fashion & Tech Startup Weekend is coming to London as part of the first ever Global Fashion Battle!

If you want to be part of the first and biggest Global Fashion Battle in the world, then get your tickets now for the upcoming London Startup Weekend - one of five cities participating in this one-of-a-kind event!

This September, London, Milan, New York, Paris, and Poznań in Poland will be hosting Fashion & Tech themed Startup Weekends as part of the Global Fashion Battle. The winners of each event will battle it out in a grand finale in Poznań, the home of the 8th Art & Fashion Forum powered by Grażyna Kulczyk.

Why these five cities?

The Fashion & Tech Startup Weekends will be hosted in London, New York, Milan and Paris in order to coincide with their respective Fashion Weeks for the SS15 collections, and in Poznań to coincide with the special 'CHIC GEEK' theme of this year's 8th Art & Fashion Forum

Each of the cities participating will host a Startup Weekend - a 54-hour event bringing together developers, designers and non techs; and helping them create functional companies from scratch. Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries. All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is encouraged to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing and market validation. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Why fashion and technology?

Fashion and Technology are not fields that have previously been known for their interaction. Wearables, e-commerce sites and fashion apps are changing both industries at an incredible pace. To celebrate, we’re gathering together renowned fashion experts, the latest technology trends, and the most talented young entrepreneurs in the world’s biggest Fashion & Tech startup competition in the world: the Global Fashion Battle. The weekends will be focused on building out ideas that lend towards the Fashion and Retail industry.  Fashion Innovations can represent anything truly new, disruptive and high-growth in the fashion vertical.  Often this means employing new materials in new ways, finding a way to automate manual processes, creating methods to aggregate and analyze useful information, or establishing a new product category.  How will you use technology to shake up the fashion market?

Q. Is this program a good fit for me?
A.  If you're passionate about innovating within the fashion and retail space, this is for you.  Whether or not you work within the industry, your experience, passion, and perspective can lend towards the development of a successful idea.  Programmers, marketers, strategists, creative professionals, and all around driven people will come together in this weekend of connections and innovation.

Q. I’m a web developer…what do I have to do with fashion?
A. Anyone can help disrupt an industry, regardless of what their skill set is.  If the product is software related, then you are integral to production of the product (think Pinterest, Polyvore, Etsy, Piperlime, ASOS, Gilt, etc.).

Q. I’ve got a fashion idea but I have no idea where to start.
A. We know...this is not a question, but we want to comment on this.  Startup Weekend Fashion Innovations is the perfect opportunity to pitch your idea, gather a team and see if you can turn your idea into a business! We’ll give you the tools to get your idea produced in an incredibly short amount of time, test it with your would-be consumers and pitch the business to a panel of judges.

So whoever you may be, and whatever dreams and aspirations you may have, come and take part in a weekend that could change your life!

And even if it doesn't, you can be sure that you will come away from the event with an extremely awesome and memorable experience.

Vassilios Alexiou
Creative Partner @ Boots Betalab

I work at the convergence of product & service design, creative tech and storytelling.

My background is in computer science and design; I found my calling when I discovered I could combine the two into meaningful interactive user journeys.

This led me to found Less Rain in 1998, with the vision to create work that moves, empowers and connects people.

I spent the next 15 years delivering interactive communication, products, services and platforms - as an agency owner, creative strategist, executive creative director and innovation specialist - working for brands like Red Bull, Victorinox, Sony, Oracle, Intel, Burberry, Land Rover, Fox Entertainment, Penguin, Puma and Alfa Romeo. I joined Dare in January 2014 and along a fantastic team of planners, creatives and technologists, we helped transform businesses like EE and Aviva by digitally connecting the customer experience.

I have recently joined Seven Seconds as Creative Partner. I work exclusively with Boots on designing innovative digital products and services that support their omni-channel strategy. It's terribly exciting.
