Welcome to the first Startup Weekend in Oxford! Join us!

  • About the event: 
    Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 2900 past events in 150 countries around the world.
    In just 54 hours, you will experience the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life at a startup.   • Do I need to come with an idea?
    If you have an idea for a startup, then great! We hope you pitch for the weekend. If you don't have an idea, thats quite alright! Come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched and maybe something strikes your interest. The weekend is all about learning about the startup ideation process.   • How many participants are going to attend the event ?
    50 tickets maximum are available

Placi Espejo
Heyford Park Management Sales & Marketing Manager

From being involved in running the family business since an early age to, getting start-ups ready for investment, Placi certainly loves the buzz of making a difference by supporting entrepreneurship.
She is a bit of a presentation guru, an experienced mentor with Oxford Entrepreneurs and the Deputy Chairman for Oxfordshire Business First and she certainly enjoys networking.

Ben Mumby-Croft

Ben is a creative marketing and branding expert with over 15 years’ experience helping founders to tell their story and grow their business.

A co-founder of FAB Accelerator, Ben is also the Marketing Director at Oxford-based creative agency One Ltd. Prior to this, Ben has setup his own marketing businesses and worked extensively with student entrepreneurs in Oxford, Cambridge and, most recently, City University London where he was head of entrepreneurship education.

Gary Frank
Co Founder at FAB Accelerator

Gary founded the Fabulous Bakin’ Boys and grew it to become the biggest independent brand in cake, employing 120 with sales of £17M.
Since “retiring” a few years ago, Gary has mentored and invested in numerous start-ups and SME’s. He is co-founder of the FAB Accelerator, Oxfordshires first comprehensive programme for ambitious entrepreneurs!

Roy Azoulay
Hands-on Innovation, Oxford University Innovation

Roy heads Oxford University’s startup incubator. Since establishing the incubator in late 2010, it has taken in close to 60 ventures, took roughly half of those through to incorporation, and has seen 15 alumni ventures raise over $40M to date. He also supports commercialisation of university research in a wide range of software related areas. Roy has previous experience running an R&D team for  Israeli software startup Sansa Security (acquired by ARM), and holds BSc degrees in Physics & Computer Science and an MBA from Oxford University

Susan Graham
CTO: BioCarbon Engineering

Susan is CTO at BioCarbon Engineering, a company using drones to tackle industrial scale deforestation with an aim to plant 1 billion trees every year.

Coaches and Mentors

Kevin Monserrat
Marketing Manager at Microsoft Accelerator

Prior to his current role in Microsoft Accelerator London, Kevin was Head of Business Development and Partnerships for Ztudium a big data business intelligence provider for business finance and markets where he built a fierce reputation with Private Equity/Hedge Funds like Global Alternative Investment Manager or GAIM and CAIA Alternative investment as a gifted problem solver. His entrepreneurial mindset and passion for business led him to build the Light House for Scale-Ups and Investors in Europe. The past years, Kevin has reviewed 700+ start-ups, mentored 26 scale-ups in both marketing and fundraising strategy.

Andrew Larkins

Andrew has a broad range of experience in early stage businesses with over 10 years consulting to numerous start-up across a range of hardware based technologies and applications including Imaging, Electronics, Industrial, Wireless, Medical, and Semiconductor. Recently he was CTO at Fuel3d, a 3D scanning company built on IP from Oxford University.  Funded initially through Kickstarter it successfully raised over $10m funding from VCs, UK Government and EU H2020 grants.  Andrew has a keen interest in IP and is a named inventor on multiple patents. He holds a BSc in Physics and an MBA.

Anna Machens
Director, Blue Pebble Consulting Ltd.

With over 15 years' experience in Training and Development and Human Resource Management in a variety of industries, Anna now predominantly works as a Business Productivity Coach with Solopreneurs, Start ups and SMEs. Anna has a passion for empowering people to reach their full potential. She especially likes to foster creativity and enable entrepreneurs to think outside the box. She also motivates clients to stay focused,set clear goals and stay on track.

Ben Villard

Ben holds degrees in Artificial Intelligence and Cybernetics, and Medical Imaging. He is currently doing a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at Oxford University, as part of the CDT in Healthcare Innovation with a focus on Cardiac Imaging. Ben's passion for solving problems and innovating new solutions has led him to both work with, and develop, new start-ups, gaining extensive experience in pitching, and public speaking. As an active member of the Oxford Entrepreneurs he has benefited from working with a wide range of entrepreneurs from the idea conceptions stages, to more established ventures, across a diverse range of disciplines.

Rahul Jadhav
Founder/CEO of Ziffy | Co-founder/CTO of Fungry

Rahul is 'almost' the creative nerd of your startup dreams, who built up his problem solving expertise, over the years, from designing and building software solutions. He claims to enjoy peddling geeky wisdom to the un-initiated and the wannabe start-uppers. He founded transportation startup Ziffy, which empowers local taxi businesses in offering responsive services and on-demand alternatives to public transportation. He is also the co-founder and CTO of Fungry, the Oxford based startup that delivers premium takeaway food to foodies all over.

Jason R.C. Nurse

Dr Jason R.C. Nurse Research Fellow, Oxford University Jason is currently a Research Fellow in Oxford University’s Computer Science Department and a member of the Cyber Security Oxford network. By nature, Jason’s role is driven by the need to innovate, and to pursue novel solutions to challenging, real-world problems. While his focus at the moment is on cyber security and human-computer interaction, Jason is also keen on working with others to push the boundaries of innovation in other technology fields. With this in mind, he regularly gives talks and lectures to educate and motivate students and the public to become more involved in tech. Jason holds a BSc in Computer Science and Accounting, an MSc in Internet Computing and a PhD in Computer Science. 

Isabelle Chaboud

Isabelle Chaboud is Associate professor in the Finance, Accounting and Law Department of Grenoble Ecole de Management. Isabelle's background is in Financial Audit. Before joining Grenoble Ecole de Management in 2001, Isabelle worked for 7.5 years for PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Lyon, France where she was a financial audit manager. She had clients in various industries and services. She also was part of the European Internal Audit Team of PwC and worked in this role in Spain (Madrid) and Portugal (Lisbon). Isabelle has been teaching at the Grenoble Ecole de Management on the Master in International Business (MIB), MBA, MBA Executive, MSc in Finance, MSc in Marketing and MSc in Innovation Strategy and Entrepreneurship programmes in Grenoble, London, Berlin, Georgia, Moscow, Singapore and Marrakech.  She holds a Master in Management with a specialization in Accounting & Finance and also graduated from the International Teachers Programme held at HEC Paris in June 2014. 

Tom Cook

With a background of selling IT equipment for big name manufacturers eventually becoming Sales Manager Northern Europe for a division of Philips in the mid-nineties, Tom Cook is now a business coach, entrepreneur, and co-founder of a number of tech start-ups. He has attended 7 Startup Weekends (helped organise 2, mentored at 4, pitched ideas at 3). In 2014 he was co-founder, co-organiser, and a mentor at Oxford Launch Weekend, and in 2016 was a mentor at 3DayStartup Oxford. Tom can advise on topics such as business strategy, route to market, business development, monetisation, sales and marketing, member acquisition/growth hacking, ux/ui, pitching, presentations, and bootstrapping pre-funding.

Celina Schlieckmann

Celina Schlieckmann loves business and creativity and works to connect both. She is a creative business consultant and a graphic designer and for the past 12 years, has gathered experience managing teams in the creative industries in a collaborative way, generating new revenue streams for businesses by implementing products, services to maximise innovation and results. Celina has also lectured in a few Brazilian institutions and now works with companies and startups in London while studies MA in Managing in the Creative Economy at Kingston University.

Sarah Puello

Sarah began to practice Yoga in 2008 as a way to complement her competitive sports training. In addition to improving her flexibility and muscle-recovery time, she found the practice also helped her relax, enter meditative states and focus during her long hours of studying. In the summer of 2014, she suffered a lower back and glute injury during a match that took her out of the sport indefinitely. She turned to Yoga  to rehabilitate from the injury and maintain her active lifestyle. In time, her regular Vinyasa and Hot Yoga practice turned into a desire to share her knowledge and the benefits of yoga with others and led her to gain her 200h Vinyasa Yoga and Hot Power Spiralling Crow qualifications in 2016 with Alessandro & Caroline at the YogaVenue in Oxford.
Sarah’s classes look to build physical strength and improve body-awareness, through a balanced and precise focus on the breath. She teaches Vinyasa Yoga, Hot Power Yoga and Hot HIIT Yoga.

She also holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, is co-founder of multidisciplinary collaborative platform Doers&Co., and has been involved with bike-sharing platform

Alexis Michel

Akram Dweikat

Akram is a Computer Engineer/Entrepreneur from Nablus-Palestine. He embraces Social Change and community building. He studied MSc In Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management at Imperial College in London, and He graduated with a BSc in Computer Engineering at An-Najah National University. Akram is a co-founded and Co-leaded of PALinnO, a new seed investment Program in Palestine. That is helping entrepreneurs reach Global markets. He is the Administrator of Google Developer Groups (GDG) Nablus And Google Student Ambassador. He was one of the driving forces for many Entrepreneurial Events in Nablus Including Startup Weekend Nablus. Akram is interested in Systems Design and Web Development. In his free time, he enjoys programming, computer games, meeting new people, and following technology news and pretty much everything new.
