Startup Weekends powered by Google for Startups are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Thursday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Saturday night demos and presentations. Participants create working startups during the event and they collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on an idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.
About Techstars Global Startup Weekend COVID-19 Edition: This series of online Techstars Startup Weekends are run at a country level, focused on developing solutions that directly tackle COVID-19-related challenges. They are 54-hour online events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs - you'll connect with amazing mentors, industry experts, founders, and partners who are ready to help you get started. 
Each country will bring together hundreds or even thousands of participants that will work on prototypes for three days. This event is not only about bringing together developers who can work on software-based solutions for the crisis. It’s an opportunity for everyone interested in the topic to inspire and be inspired and to work together on developing inclusive solutions. Mia is the Incubator Manager for Intelak Incubator an accelerator for startups based in the United Arab Emirates that are focused on aviation, travel and tourism. With the mission to build impactful collaborations between Emirates Group, GE and Dubai Tourism and local and international startups, Intelak supports its startups develop critical business skills, local business acumen, legal frameworks and licensing opportunities to bridge the gap between their brilliant business ideas and full- edged entrepreneurship.

Mia is also the founder of Yogipreneurs piloting how we can take on the four dimensions of our being: mind, body, emotion, and spirit to ignite and grow creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Julie Nguyen is both a working woman and mother of one-year-old Zain. She created & led Deep Orange, the first design sprint program in the global design & construction industry. Julie is an active member and speaker within the startup community and has a passion for empowering women. In her most recent work in Amsterdam, as part of the global digital transformation & innovation leadership team at Arcadis, she rolled out Deep Orange across Amsterdam, New York City, Berlin, London, Kuala Lumpur, Eindhoven and more. Senior Vice President of People Happiness and Innovation Corporate Services Vice Chairman of Smart City Project Committee Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority

Ghanim Al Falasi was appointed in 2011 as the Senior Vice-President of People Happiness and Innovation of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA). Ghanim brings with him extensive knowledge and know-how in the ICT sector through his previous role as Vice-President of the ICT Unit at Dubai Airports where he provided executive, technological and enterprise administrative leadership employment.   In his earlier association with Dubai Airports, Ghanim successfully established an ICT directorate for DCA based on a study conducted to identify and enhance Dubai Airports ICT infrastructure and ICT services required for the delivery of outstanding performance. Al Falasi also worked for several governmental organizations including the UAE Ministry of Defence, UAE Armed Forces, and the Central Military Command   Heading two departments in DSOA, including: People Happiness & Innovation; Al Falasi was mandated to develop and drive strategic plans for People Happiness as well as innovation across the organization.   In 2013, Ghanim was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Smart City Project Committee at Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority.   Ghanim holds a BS degree in Computer Science from California State University of Hayward, USA. Moreover, he is also holding a Chief Innovation Officer “CCInO” Certification from LEAD, Organization & Relation Systems Coaching Certification from ORSC, and most recently a certification from Neurolink-USA for being a Brain & Emotional Intelligence Practitioner.


Karin Gabriel

Karin Gabriel has completed her studies of Business and Economics at the Johannes Kepler University in Austria with exchange programs at Copenhagen Business School and Indian Institute of Planning and Management.

She started her career at Microsoft in Vienna where she focused on POS marketing and training programs for sales executives in Microsoft’s partner retail shops. Karin then joined a French company in Bangalore, India as project manager focused on conferences for C-level executives in emerging markets. In November 2012, she accepted the offer of her company to join their headquarters in Dubai, where she expanded her role to Division Head.   Since September 2018, she has had the honour of working for Dubai Future Foundation. As the Team Lead of Dubai Future Accelerators, she and her team are striving towards accelerating innovation within the government by connecting public sector organizations with start-ups from around the world.   Her passion lies in building bridging between cultures and putting an emphasis on the human factor and gender-parity with regards to innovation overall and emerging technology in particular


Roberto Croci

Roberto Croci joined Microsoft for Startups team with a wide range of knowledge, having previously worked as the Google Regional head for (EMEA) Emerging Markets (Middle East, Turkey, Israel, Russia, Africa) where he helped businesses by building & mentoring teams that could successfully penetrate new markets and ensure sustainable revenue growth.
As a natural born leader, he is passionate about business, people and their growth and has more than 15 years’ experience in various industries - ranging from digital marketing, ad-tech to sales.

Vera Futorjanski
Innovation Expert, WEF, and Advisor

Vera Futorjanski is a highly experienced innovation expert who advises both corporates and governments and helps them build thriving ecosystems. She is part of the Expert Group on Digital Platforms and Ecosystems for the World Economic Forum. She is also a Board Member and a Senior Advisor for LEAD Ventures, the office of His Excellence Sheikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, where she oversees all Venture Capital and Investment related activities of the Group.

Most recently, she was Director of Innovation for the global Venture Capital firm 500 Startups in charge of corporate innovation and ecosystem building in the Middle East and Russia. Prior to joining 500 Startups, Vera was with the Dubai Future Foundation, where as well as being the head of global communications, she was also a founding member of the Dubai Future Accelerators, an initiative of Dubai Government to accelerate innovation and diversify the economy. Before joining the Prime Minister’s Office, Vera was the Founder of a German tech startup in MENA. Prior to her time in Dubai, Vera ran the global communications for Rocket Internet during the IPO, the largest tech IPO in Germany in a decade. She is also a strong supporter of female empowerment initiatives and a social impact advocate. She serves as a Global Ambassador and Mentor for Vital Voices, a Hillary Clinton and Madeleine Albright NGO that works with women leaders.

Before her career in the tech and innovation world, Vera completed her MSc at the London School of Economics and worked as a political consultant in the European Union in Brussels. In her very first career Vera was a professional dancer.

Henrique Pereira
Senior Manager, Energy Efficiency and Renewables at Ras Al Khaimah Municipality Department

Henrique Pereira is the Senior Manager for Energy Services at the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office in Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, responsible for all building retrofits and energy management activities in the Emirate. These responsibilities support directly the overall Ras Al Khaimah Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040, established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, targeting 30% energy savings, 20% water savings, and 20% generation from renewable energy sources by 2040. He has more than 20 years of experience in engineering, specialising in the last 10 years in the energy sector in Europe and the Middle East, where he was involved in hundreds of energy efficiency and energy management projects to reduce global energy consumption and improve efficiency and sustainability of buildings and organizations. Prior to joining Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, Henrique Pereira worked with several ESCOs and Energy Services companies in C-level senior roles, to establish their business in the Middle East, support the deployment of building retrofit projects and the ambitious sustainability goals in UAE. He holds a MSc. in Electrical Engineering from Porto University, with specialisations in IT and Energy.

Mashal Waqar

Aya Sadder
Head of Partnerships at Urban

Aya Sadder is an active member and speaker within the startup community in the UAE. Currently, Aya is based in Dubai and is the Head of Partnerships for Urban since June 2019. Aya has spoken at TEDx Rome in 2018 in front of 2,500 people with the theme Society 5.0 as well as at TEDx RIT Dubai in 2017 about the role of startups in the experience economy. Prior to Urban, Aya was the Incubator manager of Intelak, the first Aviation, Travel & Tourism Incubator in the MENA region. In this role, Sadder executed the Incubator’s strategy of supporting the UAE's ambitious plans for the future, ensuring that the country sets the highest global standards for services, systems, and experiences innovation in the aviation, travel and tourism industries. Aya graduated from Babson College in Boston and to date serves on the Babson Middle Eastern Alumni club in Dubai. Aya has also worked for over 6 years under the umbrella of Techstars and Google as a globally certified facilitator for Startup Weekend. Today, Aya also serves as an active mentor and speaker on different programs related to the future of tech and Women in STEM. Aya dedicates most of her time to passionately participating in and accelerating the innovation culture for one of the world’s fastest growing hubs in this domain.
